Oscillate Wildly – im using the white lighting… its good but to be honest by the end of any ride at the moment the drive chain is so gunked up no lube is going to make a massive difference i find.

(the other week I was picking mud out of the rear mech with a stick and thats after cleaning the front mech as it was so clogged up it would hardly move….

tthew – yes its 12mph average – but taking into account rest stops etc pushes the avg up..

But saying that… 18 hours moving time is 15.5mph

Which ever way its looked at, that’s a long way..

If I was you, Arrange a face to face meeting for 9am with the solicitor, if he says he’s not availbe ask for the meting to be with the manger.

Go to the meeting with all the facts documented and your requirements and Agree a deadline for each.

Stay professional but put the pressure on.

You case is just another one of many he has, so you need to make sure it stands out, some may not care either way as they are getting paid whatever

My local bike shop carry’s little stock in the form of accessories etc,… Rather than have to order something in, try it on, then take back to shop if wrong to return and pay more, may as well order online and get it within a day or 2 for less with free returns.

I’m all for buying local but there comes a point of cost saving and ease.

The other problem I see with local bike shops is the repairs they offer, some / maybe a lot don’t have the expertise to fully service shocks and forks, so send them off to mojo loco etc etc… Where you end up just paying more for something you could of done.

I think most keen riders can also fit 80% of faults on their bike anyway, so where does this leave the bike shops????

I understand people like to let someone else build it fix it etc, but is that really the correct business model these days taking into account it will not of changed since the shop opened???

A lot of the big engines cars are cheap to lease at the moment .

If you purchased the car new, you would lose that amount in 2 years anyway………

Yeah – your findings are very common with tyres from that sector of the market.

There is no way a lot of these tyres should be legal.

erm – 30 mins to do the job is not even up for discussion as its not possible. While I agree it takes time to build the bike to a high standard (it can take me 30 mins just to get the brakes feeling perfect!) I think if I was a shop owner I would not be advertising the £60 per hour part / 2 hours work.

I think £40 per hour and 3 hours build time seems more reasonable to me, exactly the same overall price, but based over 3 hours gives me as a customer a feeling of value for money / attention to detail.

As a shop, you can quote different prices per job/ service package and dont have to offer a flat rate for everything.

I have read a couple of people using them and saying they perform ok, however i would not use them on the basis of where they are made.

Cheap far east rubber will provide a decent level of grip in snow, but as a UK driver we need the wet traction below 7’c to be the main factor for the purchase.

If it was me.. i would avoid and go with a better brand, however if its a case of using these v a cheap summer tyre I would go for them only on that basis.

neninja – how do you find the wet performance of them ? (That’s what normally lets these Far East rubber rings down). You running it as a 225/50/17?

Having driven my brothers ’09 range rover (on normal road tyres, but not rubber bands) I have to disagree with this somewhat – that said, the RR is a very clever car and can handle a lot more than you think if you switch on the correct function.
I drive an XC90 with winter tyres fitted all the time.

I disagree..To a certain point…. maybe the traction control can get the car moving in snow to a certain level – but try stopping 2 tons it at 70mph on cold surface tarmac compared to winter rubber. its not all about getting going.. its traction and lateral grip

    mightymule –
Theres a lot of useful information posted in this thread.

Winter tyres are a must I say on any car in the winter months when temp is 7’c of below.

I running goodyear ultragrip 8 this season on the E60, previously used Michelin Alpins and Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D’s. I normally run 18’s but switch to 16’s for the winter rubber.

I was not impressed with the performance of the Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3Ds last year compared to the Alpins, which has resulted in me changing them this season, so we will see how the Ultragrip’s fair.

I also run Alpins on the Golf GTI which perform really good too.

To date – touch wood… i have never got stuck in the E60 in extreme snow, but lets not forget its not the odd one or 2 major days of snow we fit these tyres, it is for the duration of the winter when the temps are cooler and summer compound hardens.

I have driven in Sweden and Norway enough times to highlight the benefits which is the core reason for me running the rubber here in the UK.

Below is a video of us driving in Sweden heading upto Hagfors for a WRC rally stage.

If it was upto me it should be law in the uk too, however it will never happen at the moment.

Snow socks are ideal for getting out of a stuck position, but dont forget you can only do upto 30MPH with then and they will soon burn out on tarmac so for most people they will only be used for 100-200 meters until they get to clear tarmac.

lol… prawny – There’s no need for you to post your “selfie” photos on here… we all dont need to see you in your “online dating” outfit..

JEngledow – If your going down the snow sock option, its worth noting that some of the socks you will struggle to get on if your running a decent sized wheel in msport spec — its not uncommon to have to jack the car up a few inch… (this is more so with chains)
