I’m no expert, but I don’t think you should be preloading the spring that far.

    TF Tuned says –
“On rear shocks, the spring preload collar is infinitely adjustable (with a little help from some pipegrips!) so in theory you could get the ending rate you want. The only problem here is the limited space for the spring. As you screw the preload collar down to compress the spring, the gaps between the coils become smaller. These gaps must add up in total to a value higher than that of the shock stroke. Ideally they should be 10% greater otherwise premature failure of the spring will occur. This is why all coil-over shocks have a maximum amount of allowable preload. This amount is usually between 2-8 turns and is counted from the moment the spring collar contacts the spring and begins to compress it.”

‘dale Prophet is at 13 inches in the FR setting. My Hemlock with Pikes is 13.5 inches static. I was 170mm cranks. Low is good, low is nice.

If you’re making tea the proper way – in a pot – milk should go in first. If making tea in a builders styleee – bag in the mug – then milk in after otherwise it doesn’t seem to brew properly.

I use mine all the time now. With a slightly dodgy knee they seem to give a bit of added support and then happen to act as pads if I come off.

I hardly ever used my travel adjust on my Pikes, just because it took so many turns it was a PITA. But, I find I use the travel adjust on my Talas forks a lot just because it’s so easy.

Depends on lots of things whether you’d think it’s worth it or not, but for my two-penneth, U-Turn is a pain cos it needs so many turns to lower the fork but Talas is ace – 2 clicks and it’s lowered 40mm. Marzocchi ETA is useful too, so don’t discount that as an option.

Good point. I’d not thought about attaching to the drop-out rather than the frame for disc brakes.

OK. Maybe a better question – what do you have, what do you find good about it and what would you change on it.

P.S. Got a Gravity Dropper direct from the man himself in the States. Arrived exactly 1 week from ordering and he labelled the value as $45 so no customs tax. Very happy with it so far.

I’d say the remote on these posts is very useful unless you know exactly where you’re going and what’s coming up so you can drop before the downy gnarly bit. If you ride different spots or ride with mates in their area then the remote is well useful – it’s not nice taking a hand off the bars to adjust the height once your travelling at speed down something a bit lairy! It gauls me to say that as I hate seeing extra cables, but I’d go remote every time now.

That Holeshot looks good. Low BB but still for the bigger forks which is unusal, but what I’ve been looking for. Are they available as frame only?

Aye Cheesy, that’s where I got mine from. Much nicer than Optilabs, although you do pay for the brands.

Basically says that the owners are waiting for a buyer. The 2 or 3 other brands they owned have sold, so it’s only a matter of time.

Yes, but you need a kit. Stans will work or you can get the pukka DT one from CRC or justridingalong.

My old one – a medium MX2 from 2006, now replaced with a Hemlock.

I reckon 30 pounds or so with XT cranks, Hope hubs on DT4.2 rims, Easton Havoc stem, Race Face DH bars, FSA seatpost, SDG Bel Air, Magura Louise FR brakes, Pana Rampage tyres, X& geary stuff.

I’ve not read any of what’s gone before, but I love my Hemlock with the wee rockers. I know what you mean about wanting to boost off the little lips – my old Prophet used to absorb them too. The Hemlock lets you boost off them though and I’m guessing that’s down to the progressive rate that Cy has designed in.

The new Talas 32’s are very nice and available in 150mm travel with 15mm axle. Half a pound lighter than my air Pikes they replaced too. They’re expensive, but if you’re saving £800 over the Turner then you’re still quids in.

There’s about £700 or £800 difference in price. I own a Hemlock and it’s brilliant. Only ridden in 120mm guise so far and just put some 150mm Talas forks on it last weekend and it’s perfect for what I wanted.

£800 could get lots of stuff including an Alpine holiday…

Petrol or meths. Evaporates really quickly and the grip just sticks properly as there’s nothing else to get wet and slippy like with hair spray.

A friend has the Pace forks on his Mojo and has used them in the Alps and stuff with no problems and he’s hardly a light rider – tends to smash into stuff and get the inevitable double snake bites. He’d say he was maximising his suspension by going over the rocks rather than flouncing round them.

We’ve got the non-isofix one that uses the seatbelt to strap it in. Doesn’t seem to be that much play between seat and base though. Do you have to strap the seatbelt over the base as well as the isofix points for your one?
