Where from at that price?  Surely not right…is it?

    Thanks for replies.

So the old wear issues are a thing of the past for Fox now?  I remember several years ago now (7 or 8?) buying a second hand bike that had 36s on and you could feel the ridges on the stanchions where they’d worn.

Nobody else with Rhythms?  I’m more interested to hear about their feel and reliability.  Been a Rock Shox man for ages now.

what do you want the fork for?

They come standard on a couple of bikes I’m considering and the forks are the biggest unknown to me.

    That’s nice to hear.

I think so.  You’ll need one of these if it’s 104bcd, which I think that set is.

EDIT – says 104 pcd here (assume pcd is same as bcd?) – https://bike.shimano.com/en-EU/product/component/saint-m820/FC-M820.html

Same as sofaking. I have 9 Five10s and 9 Adidas and both fit great. Adidas are easier to get on though.

In classic recommend what you ride, er, I mean where you live…MONMOUTH!  It’s ace.  Check out the butterfly farm and hedge maze at Whitchurch (a bit crap to be fair, but your kids might enjoy it if they’re young enough), Symonds Yat (East) for a nice bimble up to Yat Rock and good food by the river at the Saracen’s Head.  FoD – sculpture trail, Beechenhurst, etc. for wandering about and zip lines (just a little one, but fun enough for the young ‘uns).  The Kymin for good views over to the Black Mountains and walks and picnics on the lawn.  And a plethora of coffee shops and charity shops on Monmouth high street.  And Dirt mag are based here too, so it must be cool.

It’s about 45 minutes from Brizzle though, but don’t tell the wife.

There’s a nudist convention in town next week.

Might go along if I’ve got nothing on.

I think they talk about the changes in this months MBR with the Trail Bike of Year test.  It gets 10 out of 10 and wins overall.

jam bo – this is way worse than having nina hide under my bed, but a nice blast from the past nevertheless!  8-)

Matt – aye, they could have access from the mortgage broker’s account too, but I’m still changing everything.

Bought a house late last year so sent all the anti-fraud docs (oh the ironing) via email. So I guess they hacked my email account.

    All has become apparent.

While my phone was blocked they phoned my credit card company and changed my phone number on my account to theirs.  Today they’ve then gone on a spending spree and passed every security question – even had a copy of my passport FFS!

Scary stuff.  I may be a while cleaning up and redoing all my personal docs…

Not sure XC, but this is my singlespeed for riding in the woods.

It makes a nice change from normal geared full sus. I’ve recently put together a Nukeproof Scout 290 as a singlespeed, but always had one on and off for probably 15 or 20 years. Superb fun as a quick hour or two straight from the door into the woods.

the new air spring also provides more negative spring volume – 42% more in the Lyrik, and 36% more in the Pike

So how much more % is the Luftkappe?

Can’t you shim one side so that they’re straight?  Or is the foot of the post too small to make that easy?

Glassesdirect usually have offers. I’ve got one pair just for riding in – cheap so doesn’t matter so much if they get scratched or smashed in a get off.

    https://www.glassesdirect.co.uk

Give them your email address and you can get 2 pairs for £19. That’s what I did.

I have size 9 Five10s and size 9 Adidas.  Both fit well, if anything the Adidas are easier to get on.

Mark Weir doesn’t like wide rims, so I think horses for courses. I’ve got 21, 25 and a pair of 29mm internal wheels are in the post, so hopefully I’ll be able to offer better insight soon enough… 🤓

I got a Fiskars X25 for Christmas to split logs. Works a treat and isn’t too heavy to wield about.

    Nice find, Dez.
Seems that Gusset do a singlespeed kit for XD, but it would add £38 to my costs to get the sprocket size I want. So, any XD options need to be that much cheaper…

On one have Pacenti rims on El Guapo hubs for £150, but those Octane One’s would be cheaper with the Shimano freewheel already.

    Owt else?

Only 135mm QR rear though and also XD only. Good shout for someone though.

I got an Ego 1400 for Christmas.
    https://egopowerplus.co.uk/products/chainsaws/cs1401e-35cm-chain-saw

I chose an Ego because of the 56v battery. I got the kit version that comes with the 2ah battery and costs around £250 for chainsaw, battery and charger. It charges up in about an hour or less (never really timed it) with the standard charger. I’ve never used any chainsaw before, but I used it a lot over Christmas and it’s great. Light, quiet, only on when you need it to be, little window for the oil (surprised how quickly it can go through oil) and a nice manual with it that gives you lots of tips and stuff on how to be a lumberjack.

I’ve chopped down old dead oak trees, loads of fallen stuff, etc. Fantastic bit of kit. Difficult to say how long the battery lasts, but I think the 4ah would have been perfect. Sometimes I’m still OK to carry on cutting and lumping logs about, but it runs out. Not a major bother, just pop back home for a bit of lunch and the battery is charged by the time you want to go back out.

    Lightening = making something lighter

Lightning = big electric sparky stuff from storms and that. Plus, Apple connector thing.

    Sorry…

Have you done the Dowie’s area? It’s over in Elwood. Lots of options all starting in roughly the same place.

If they are for 28 tooth chainring only, what crank options are there? Would it be direct mount only? Brief look shows only 30 tooth ring for down to 94bcd.

Typically, I have old XT with 104bcd, so unless anyone knows better I’d have to factor in a new set of cranks…possibly.

Ooh, further to my post above –

Then a set of these for £144
    https://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/WBI25EGRS/wtb-st-i25-tcs-rim-on-el-guapo-rattlesnake-hubs

And some 2nd hand Yari forks for around £200 and away you go! Not a bad upgrade and cost.

Sell your rolling chassis for c. £400 (probably more) and for £500 you’ve modernised and got new kit.

On-One Codeine 27.5 for £377. No shock included, but you could pick one up for well less than £200 and be quids in.

No idea if geometry suits what you’re after though…

Just moved into a house with a wood burner, so all this manly talk of wood splitting is great. But… what’s the difference between a maul and an axe for splitting logs?

First car was a Dyane. Superb fun bombing around Norfolk.
Second car was a 2CV. Also great fun, but both had shocking mpg when travelling west into a strong headwind!
