You can’t really go wrong with any of the north cardiff areas. Great local riding, good road links to the trail centres with all the benefits of being near the city. Swansea is good if you’re into caravans, glue sniffing and dog fighting

They sell golden wonder in the canteen at work. The Salt and vinegar ones have got some serious power. Put s&v from other brands to shame. Bacon monster much were the one – until I bit into a large clump of the flavouring that had made it’s way into the pack. Put me right off.

Being in between sizes for the majority of bike manufacturers is a big part of “getting” Santa Cruz for me. I can get a perfect fitting bike with good geometry and suspension that works perfectly well (despite what the experts say  . Get a test ride for sizing.

I can’t make this one col, but would join you if it becomes a regular thing

Any reliability problems? Also initial feedback was consistently excellent but a few people said they were still tinkering, wondering if performance had improved for anyone as a result?

Base settings pretty close for me from tftuned. Avoid using a muddy night ride to fine tune the settings as the adjusters are easily rounded with a slightly wonky placement of the 3mm Allen key  when it’s set up it’s great, calms the rear of the pike and make pikes feel so-so

45 seconds and it went off. Then I realised it was an advert first. The actual thing I lasted 40 secs

Alltricks have cheap Santa Cruz nickels that would work with 140-150mm forks. Got a 125mm solo with 140mm forks and it’s a great combination, bit limited on proper dh tracks but still doable. Spot on for everything else

Dainese trailskins are very good. Lightweight but plenty enough protection on the knee cap and sides for regular trail riding. They have perforations in the front so you get good air flow through so no sweat build up.

5’10.5 and 32 – and always had medium bikes as I was put off by the long seat tube. Since then have had large sjumper evo, 5 spot and 5010. the seat tube length itself was never an issue. Ask the shop if you can get a pedal on it?

Have you tried the Large t130? Im about the same height as you and 19″ seat tubes have never been a problem – certainly never felt in the way when the seat is dropped.
EDIT – I tested the large myself and it fitted well

Yep ok it’s not a particularly new idea – didn’t realise the st4 came specced with a 34/36mm stanchion fork direct from orange tho

Cube stereo 140 is in a similar vein, but not available till January., . I like the idea of these shorter travel trail bikes with a sturdy fork. The canyon spectral has a really short wheelbase which I’m not sure about. The whyte does look spot on.

Any comments on the sizing op?

I tried the car park test on a t130 med and found it rideable but a bit small at 5’10.5 As there isn’t a huge jump to the large id be buying that – if I’m between sizes I prefer to size up on shorter travel and size down on longer travel bikes. The bottom bracket seems fairly low – are pedal strikes a big issue? I’m stuck between the g150s and t130works if I go with whyte. Following my post up there ^ do the bikes have a snappy feel, launch off roots etc or do they just suck up everything and are hard to get off the ground.
    Cheers

Can anyone give an idea / links as to how the quad link works. How do they compare to dw links/fsr? Are they single pivots? I cant find any blurb on the website. Shame that orange T130 doesnt come with pikes

its groaning in embarrassment at being called a noble steed  Sounds like you want to strip it all down – grease and locktight where appropriate, and torque correctly.
Or it may just be the seat post

If he’s 130cm get the 24. My daughter is the same height and is much more comfortable on her sisters 24 beinn than her own 20″. The bigger bike is a lot more stable too.

Had a family holiday in Samoens – loved the place. Had a day riding there which I really enjoyed. The waymarked trails all point downhill but some have pedally bits. Trails felt less manmade than les gets etc and not as many big jumps / features. There would have been enough variety within the local area to keep me happy for a few days, without wanting to venture further afield.

My ust on the rear has deformed after a cornering burp type incident. Looks like a big buckle in the wheel. 32psi Stan’s arch. Only 5 rides old. Common (1 in 20) problem apparently

cheers for the (conflicting) advice  Think I need to ride one. What length stem are you both using? – for me the sizing of a large DW 5 spot (09) was spot on. Looking at the numbers Im still going towards medium.

    Large DW 5 spot (09)
    TT 600 Reach 406 Stack 604 Wheelbase 1117

    Med Spitfire
    TT 590 Reach 427 Stack 590 Wheelbase 1154

    Large Spitfire
    TT 615 Reach 452 Stack 590 Wheelbase 1179

How are you owners who have done some miles finding the sizing. The reach on the med looks right from my previous bikes (5’10.5) but Im still unsure.

18 months is about the same for my 2 pairs. its not even just the sole coming away – the bottom of the shoe completely disintegrated after a wet winter. “new improved lighter more resisitant to wet weather design” coming in 2014 apparently .

the really muddy bit was about 200 yards and rideable. no drama!!
