There's the "miler" near the start of the gap loop ( if you start at the Brecon mountain railway). Takes about 20 minutes to walk it.

If someone could send me some gpx files I'd really appreciate it. Also staying with the in-laws down there and the novelty of haldon has worm off.

Try near the dam of the upper neuadd reservoir. Its a lovely spot to the SE of Pen-Y-Fan. Some woodland there also for a bit of shelter.

Follow the road is probably the easiest way to get to the DH start. You're better off riding the Twrch trail (XC) and then paying a few £ for a single uplift.

My gd just got back from the states after breaking under warranty (6 months old). 10 days turnaround, £10 cost to post. Didn't ask for Proof of purchase or owt. The bracket that holds the cable stop to the post was glued on and fell off. Could of fixed it myself but why waste warranty. It always had a few mm of play, which you don't notice riding. Use it far more on a ride than I thought I would. Very useful.

I've got a rohloff chain guide for sale in the classifieds. Has loads of asjustments bit may give you the same issues as the paul as it fixes to the seat tube?

A bit meh suggests dull and insipid which it certainly ain't. IMO. Great little place for an hours play and as has already been said a good start for longer rides. Really can't be rsed describing each trail in detail sorry.

there is LOADS of riding around Castell Coch

Well yeah there is some, but it's become a bit meh after all these years. Trust me, I know the trails although having said that I do keep discovering more bits…

a bit meh!? Don't think you know the trails as well as you think you do.

Fair enough if it's manual work, will it really make a difference if all the job entails is sitting on your ass in an office.

take your pump with you first couple of rides and experiment on the same section as to how is best for you. 20-30% is a good start though.

I thought the prophets weren't designed for coil shocks, or will the myriad of adjustments on the CCDB control for that?

A simple way of doing it is ride down the road and bounce the forks. Looking at the forks do they move up and down after the initial compression / return. If they do, adjust the rebound so you dont get that secondary movement. Worked for me on Van 36R.

I use a Rohloff chain guide, bit more expensive but attaches to the seat tube so you can swivel it to get perfect alignment (not that this helps in any way with your problems – sorry).

Definitely a sit and spin (plod) climber. If your mates have all got 5" trail bikes (comparable fitness) youre going to struggle to keep up on long climbs/traverses. Brilliant descender though.

Don't buy until you try!! you're not in a rush so demo as many as you can, even if it means travelling a bit.

if its dhx you'll need the oversize int. diameter (see nuke proof CRC). Also fox springs won't be marked as 2.25 it'll be 2.37 (double check that on Mojo website).

e13 do the job just fine. Also consider a Blackspire chain tensioner. Keeps things nice and taut, prevents chain slap.

Good trails in Gethin Park Merthyr, woods around Castell Coch (just outside Cardiff). Both require a bit of local knowledge to get the best out of though. Failing that Cwmcarn!
beat me to it there Colin!
