Avoid the A624 which will be particularly busy with the snake being shut and also the A6 and most roads are good.

Food and drink. The Old Hall Inn in Whitehough.

People wanting to visit the Snake Pass Inn will be able to drive to the pub from the Bamford side.

    See this page

    http://www.x-peria.fr/index.php/vtt-mtb/2-uncategorised/122-frame-tandem-mtb-x-peria-5000-racing

They come in L/M or M/S

One thing I can’t see in the spec is the bottom bracket height. This is very important on an off road tandem if you don’t want to run a ground.

My eye tells me the stoker BB needs to be higher.

    We’ve one coming soon a 29er that looks like this (325mm BB F + R)(Medium Small)

In the usual STW “vote for what you’ve got” I’ll recommend the terra nova laser comp 1.

I had one for a while. Particularly finickity to pitch so that it didn’t flap was my recollection.

Can’t argue with the weight though esp. the cuben fibre one.

Post up trail updates please Rich, you’ll be a day ahead of me throughout…

Good luck to you both, hope you enjoy it second time round

    Thanks Alasdair.

Trail updates – puddles then boggy. :)

It’ll be an interesting few days for sure, hopefully enjoyable ones.

The Alpkit weighs a smidge over 1.2kg all in. That Luxe will weigh 1.6+ once you add a pole.

There is room in the Ordos 2 for 2 adults without having to get too cosy.

No I mean in the top 100 more like in the top 90 but guess that doesn’t really matter.

    Really?

My time barely made it in the top 100 on the all time list for that section.

    You mean top 1000?

I was thinking that tandem would be extremely difficult on the rough/awkward stuff.

It would certainly be time consuming.

Ours is available if you are keen to use one

Tom calls yours the “tandem of doom” probably as it is too big for us and we kept on falling off it. Thanks though Jules. :)

Rich, what’s not ready with the tandem?

There has been a delay with the frame.

No tandem for us for this trip.

If Minipips makes it all the way round, it’ll all be his doing. 8O

At that age bigger wheels won’t make a child faster, a lighter bike will though.

It’s none of my business but I always feel sorry for a kid riding a bike that is too big for them.

EDIT: I didn’t make it to the pizza place on day 1, but I did get over the Corrieyairack. This is very important – you really should do this day 1 as it made such a huge difference to the race for me to not have to do that first thing in the morning.

If you are not taking a stove, I’d aim to get to Fort A when they are open for a hot meal. If you can’t get there in time for pizza, aim to get there in time for breakfast.

My lad has his own cycling blog, he’s been on telly and has been interviewed on a couple of other bike websites.

Can’t say we’ve had any dealings with weirdos.

We’ll be there, though we are setting off a day before everyone else. Maybe on a tandem if it’s finshed in time. Not on CX bikes though.

(yes I have put on a bit of weight since last years race) :)

Hydrostatic head figure seems quite low though at 1200mm

Apparently the way the HH is tested doesn’t make this fabric look good.

I read a review of it in its previous GoLite incarnation to say it didn’t leak.

How much stuff are you wanting to carry?

A frame bag will give you some but not lots of storage. If I get everything in one that’s what I’d go with.

However if you want to carry more eg clothes, then I’d go with a dry bag on the front, or a seatpack, or both.

You don’t need to be worried by not seeing the front of your wheel, just look ahead.

    I’d buy a CX version.

    Kids in pubs.

My son always asks on a weekend if it’s time to go to the pub yet.
