Sounds as if you need to get fitter, rather than get a bike with gears.

those 3 prongs look passing strange! What’s going on there ?

Tyre clearance / anti chainsuck iirc., and I guess it is cheaper than having a tube bent to that shape.

Fair point richpips – I read the 3 Peaks programme again the other day – the blokes won decent cash prizes and the first woman won a set of wheels (I think).

A friend who posts on here occasionally, and is regularly in the top three at events, has many a tale of prize inequality. :(

Our rules state 3 entrants in a category for prizes

Surely if two women turn up, and one wins she should get a prize?

There was an event I entered not so long back where the men got prizes, and the women did not, as according to the organiser there were not sufficient female entries.

I’m not surprised woman don’t enter races.

richpips did you do it on your tod? i tried to organise it a couple of years back but none of my mates were up for it. if it is fairly safe to do alone i’d actually prefer it that way!! no waiting around or listening to other people’s moaning!

I did it on my own. Safe? Well it’s all on path’s with walkers, so you’ll not be left in a heap for long if you have a mishap. Some of it is technically quite challenging though.

The guy that bought it had a test ride of it and was happy so payed me in cash.

He had plenty of opportunity to see what was what. It’s not as if he bought it on ebay unseen.

Next time he’ll look a bit better.

    Keep your money.

I did it with my kit over three days.

Hopefully I’ll get back this year to do it under 24hrs.

My route here here and here.

The only thing I would not do is lose all the height heading down to Martigny, better imho to use the Bovine, even if there is some carrying.

I’ll see if I can dig out my mapped route.

I’d say its pretty impossible really now to ride all the way down in the gully.

    Not so. But definitely difficult.

Dont hear much of doctors gate anymore? Why’s that then?

Well firstly it’s a pain to get to. A long approach on the A57 in either direction. Then, the top rocky section is beyond most people. Once you get down to shelf brook the going is crap, tussocks, river braids no path as such. Then you’re in Glossop, which means yet more road to get back to wherever you came.

I’m happy riding on my own.

I’m happy riding in a group.

i think i hope no body from main peak district trust see”s this and then they decide to sanitize the impossible to ride parts

I wouldn’t fancy trying to walk down the natural line of Chapel Gate. If the Peak Park was going to do anything about it, I’d guess it would be due to the requests from walkers.

The “chicken runs” weren’t created by cyclists, but by the walkers.

As the BW traverses a steep hillside, it would cost a fortune to sanitize it as you’d have to ensure drainage that would not wash improvements away.

    Remember it was tarmac once.

In answer to your scanner question. Why not get a good s/h one of ebay scan your slides, and sell it back. I know a couple of folk who have done that.

If I ask the reserve, and the seller won’t divulge it, it’s very rare I will bid on it.

It says to me that the bidder isn’t being honest and up front.

If you’re selling something I can’t see why you’d not be prepared to name your price you’d be willing to sell at.

There are a lot of bookies offering £25 free bets when you sign up.(You place a bet with your own money then they put £25 in your account so you have to use it for another bet)
So you take up two of these offers with different companies and place two opposing bets on some form of two horse race – where there can’t be a draw, then place two more opposing bets with your free bets. You are guaranteed to win two bets and a probable profit of, I guess, 80% (I don’t know how betting tax works these days)
What is wrong with my plan?

Nothing a matter with the plan.

People do make money by placing opposing bets with different companies offering different odds on the same event. Lay betting.

Though as I recall there is a lot of number crunching invloved, plus a considerable lot off leg work.

Once upon a time a long time ago I had a fling with gambling.

In retrospect I wish that the very first day I had ended losing. But no I won, and won by a factor of 100. I could do no wrong.

After winning the first time, I guess I thought that this could be replicated with larger sums of money.

Over time I lost big time. I never lost my shirt, but the amount of money wasted trying to win big time again was a quite considerable sum. Money that could certainly have been spent on better things.

I’m not saying that gambling is wrong, if you can deal with it in a cold hearted fashion. I couldn’t, I don’t gamble with money anymore.

It’s the guys decision, not ebay rules.

I recently was going to buy a £500 lens form a bloke who lives 5 miles away. He wouldn’t let me collect it. I didn’t buy it. Easy.
