Hi Rich, I wondered what had happened to your pics.

I see what you mean about the sunrise pic nice.

Were you using all points AF?

Better to use centre point focussing, and half press prefocus as mentioned above, then press the shutter the rest of the way down when the subject is where the focus point is.

I can't say I associate beer and smoking anymore, as due to legislation one can not smoke in a pub / club.

then its up to the event manager to decide if anyone else can

If the event is on public land anyone can take pictures.

I recently took some shots at an event organised by the local mountain rescue which I would have gone to watch anyway. Any proceeds from their sales will go to them. I guess if I was going to shoot a charity event for work, I'd be happy to donate a proportion of my profit to said charity.

If I was an event organiser like Convert's mate Rob, I'd find a good local photographer to come along and cover the event. People like photos of themselves competing, or participating in events plus good photos of an event give publicity to said event. So Rob though he may not receive a pint out of it would hopefully get more entrants in future.

Golf is undeniably a game of skill which a large proportion of the public play and will watch on television, so commercially it's a goer. Not my cuppa though.

I'd just set up a separate email and paypal personal account. I wouldn't bother with a business one, you won't be handling that many transactions. Plus you might get away with people using paypals gift function, thereby circumventing any fees. Check the gift limits.

It's a genuine message, I had it on an old laptop that I bought off ebay.

If you can live with the annoying black screen etc. it'll still work fine. My solution though was to reformat and install Ubuntu.

    Unethical LOL.

As to being the official event photographer it doesn't matter really having been one and not been one at events. The bottom line is if someone likes your picture they'll buy it if they want to. Competition in any marketplace is good. In photography it makes photographers take better pictures, so should you want to buy one, you'll hopefully get a good one.

If people want to give their pics away or donate sale proceeds to charity, that's cool too. Me I have a wife and two children to support, it's what I do for a living.

Maybe I should retrain as an arms dealer or crack heroin seller.

That looks nice. I really liked the handling of my cross-check, a bit too heavy though.

i'd offer a spons deal to the first one to win SITS / MM solo on a 'cross bike though, that would be amusing as well as a lot harder than it sounds!

They're not allowed, it's in the rules.

they'll all ride the 100 miles with 85000ft of climbing on a rigid fixie with a 53:11 gear, and finish 26 minutes before they left.

I thought we were all riding fixed. No?

Apparently they're keeping the ascent a secret.

I shall be there with my camera to take pictures of those in the broom wagon.

I prefer Tracklogs. Certainly up to a couple of years ago TL was loads better than MM. I've owned both.

Got to love those photoshop filters that make a swishy action shot out of a bit of plodding.

That is more or less as shot no photoshop other than a touch of sharpening.

Wow! Your pictures are great! What equipment were you using if you don't mind telling?

Thanks. 5d body, Canon L lenses, on and off camera flash and a tripod. My backs sore from carting that lot round all weekend. :)

Oh, and FWIW I gather it's a not for profit organisation.

There might well have been Martyn, although I didn't see them. Am I now famous?
I almost took a load of cyclists out at the sharp turn in Belmont because they all virtually stopped whereas I was having brake problems and to be quite frank wouldn't have bothered braking for another 50 metres.

Maybe you'll show them who is the boss next year ;)

I reckon if they offered full refunds, then you'd get lots of people entering thinking well maybe I will do it , maybe I won't but it doesn't matter 'cos I'll get my money back. Not good from an organisers point of view.

As for £275 being a lot of money, well yes, but having seen the event at the weekend, I can see where a fair bit of that will have gone. Event HQ, marshalls, timing, road closure, security, marshalls, and of course some profit for the organisers.

I'd title the "Jacob's Ladder descent", the "Edale Cross Descent".
