    Mumsnet thread goes like this….

Title: I’m worried that my Husband is going to leave me.

post #1 Whilst going shopping in Stockport the other day I caught my DH looking at this girl at the bus stop.

We got onto the bus and sat down, it was crowded and the girl was now standing near us. MY DH stood up and let the pretty girl have his seat. She fluttered her eyelids at him and said thanks.

When we got to our stop at Hattersley I asked the girl if I could get past. The girl said no worries, this is my stop too. I am now concerned that after what has happened today that my husband might see her agaain.

post #2 If your husband is acting like that I’d be careful, from small acorns oak trees grow.

post #3 Make him sleep on the sofa tonight, that’ll sort him.

post #4 That’s how it started with me, my ex gave up his seat to an elderly lady on the bus, and two years later ran off with a colleague who works in his canteen.

post #6 I feel your pain

    …..some pages later

post #197 Maybe have a chat with him if you think there is a problem, doesn’t sound like it to me though.

post #198 ^^^^ WTF. !!! Looks like we’ve been infiltrated by a man again.

With 20% of the worlds population living and working there, I think you’ll be hard pressed to avoid buying anything Chinese in the future.

    Correct.

If you want to own current technology, then it is inevitable that at least some of the constituent parts come from there, or other far eastern/Asian countries who’s working ethics you probably don’t agree with.

Don’t think that just because something has “made in the UK”, that all of the constituent parts come from the UK.

….and looking at the current Exposure lights thread, there are numerous cases of people having problems with their lights, no different there from the cheap stuff from dealextreme, except that Exposure have a customer service department who’ll sort you out quickly.

I think the demise of UK manufacturing is a lot more complex than blaming it on MTBers for buying Chinese lights

Fair play, I don’t wont to flame fellow rider and DX light lovers, but the DX light strikes me as a good example to point out that just cos something is cheap, doesn’t make it good. From an economic prespective, ie, UK jobs.

Would somebody care to point me to UK manufacturers of the constituent parts that go to make up a competitive MTB light?

I think he’d be better targetting his fund raising.

Maybe, but as can be seen below the model does have some merit.

It seems like their standard slideshow is flash for pcs/macs but html5 for iphone/ipad.

Good to hear they’re catching up.

Still their example gallery themes look as naff as my coppermine ones.

I can print up to A2 on my ipf5000 so the printing isn’t so much of an issue.

Are you sure about that? They do for the front page slideshow but that is optional. In any case I believe they have an iPad app and they are moving towards html5 with lots of stuff at the moment. I suspect the currency thing may be more of a limitation for you

I checked a few of their example websites, their slideshows were all flash driven. I want a slideshow on my front page (lightbox2 is a candidate)

Currency may matter but as paypal is used for payment, they automatically do the exchange.

I don’t mind messing about a bit to get things right, with my limited skillz.

Looks like I can use a matched Graph Paper Press front end which I could host?, then send the customers —–> over there to photshelter to complete the sales.

I’m guessing that will actually boost ranking due to it being such a big site.

Thanks all for helping me think through this.

Smugmug uses flash for galleries – No good on iPad etc.

Google doesn’t pick up on the photos in zenfolio

..and it doesn’t pick up my images even though the are called search_term_123.jpg unless they’re on a page that includes a reasonable amount of text eg a blog entry

I’m a little confused here. Do you have your own domain name that you are pointing at the new site as well or are you just moving all of your pics elsewhere and using their domain name?

If you are pointing your domain name at their site then the redirect has to be done using an htaccess file (AFAIK)

If you are just moving your pics and using their name then it will depend on how you host your site

sorry I can’t be of more help

I was going to move and take my domain name with me. It’s looking now that I might not do that. I may redesign my front end and redirect for sales to a 3rd party, and just archive my old stuff.

Is there a batch way to put a redirect on all pages?

Photoshelter was at the top of my list. However they don’t enable descriptive URLs . Zenfolio does, but doesn’t have the Stock sales.

    I’ll check Smugmug as well.

Which ever I go for, long term it has to be an improvement on the current shonkiness.

I’d pick another day unless dodging bikes is your thing.

Though having said that if you go up PyG first and earlyish, you’ll probably only encounter some stragglers descending Whernside.

If you can hear it in your house it's your business.

Children make noise, adults make noise, cows and sheep make noise.

Even those pretty tweety birds make noise.

    Live with it.

Or KILL them all, as then you'll be at one with your mardy arsed self.

Yeah that's the British attitude – ignore your neighbours.

I've spoken to the sheep and cattle at length today, they go baa moo.

It takes HD Video and has the advantage over cheapo VidCams that you can use wide aperture lenses, having said that to get the best out of it there's more of a learning curve than with a VidCam.

The reality, if your group are not above average riders is that they'll push most of the way up to Edale Cross irrespective of the direction.

Above average ability ride up to Edale Cross, and down Jacobs, road though to get up to Rushup, unless you want to push up Chapel Gate.

Top riders, ride up Jacobs and all the other bits too.

The BW down to the res is bone dry atm, we rode up it this week. As a downhill it's mega fast if you've got the bottle.

Me I prefer the relatively short push up Jacobs, I can ride 99% of the rest.

Unless there are no walkers about Jacobs is a rubbish descent compared to the relatively quiet and wider other side.

Pragmatism is all very well, but are we to judge everything by money ?It seems a very crass metric

The general vibe on this thread hs been about photogrphers making coin.

    Don't be too offended.

    so ambition is wrong ?

Yes. If your ambition is feeding your family while you are alive, Van Gogh's model is flawed.
