Or the Dakota 20, which I’m thinking of getting.

The Oregon is too big given the choice of the Edge or Dakota.

Still the three all offer user specific highlights.

Taking proper batteries for me is always the winner whatever the other features.

Xmas day round trip of 70 miles with Parsley Hay as mid point. The cafe was closed for some reason

We were there yesterday, and it was closed then too.

Sadly the $1m odd they’re after is short change to Lance, who has more money than he knows what to do with, plus a $500m pseudo cancer charity at his personal disposal (all they seem to do is pay him a fortune to appear at fund raisers).

I think you’ll find that though he might still have coin, his cancer charity has sacked him.

A mate was saying that a couple of years ago his car engine got flooded out whilst he was driving through deep water.

The car insurer did not pay out saying it was his fault.

    From the foreign office website.

Around 5.5 million British nationals visit the United States every year (Source: US Department of Homeland Security). Most visits are trouble-free. …. 01 April 2011 – 31 March 2012 for the following types of incident: 210 deaths

It doesn’t say if those people just died or came to an end via other means.

Elsewhere I saw a 1/600,000 death/visitor rate for Florida, though old data.

rich pips we seem to get told that guns are everywhere, did you see any? i’d like to go to the states, yellow stone, washington etc but put off a bit…

My hosts told me that all the guys hanging around on the street corner had them. Never saw one though.

Like anywhere go to the nice places and avoid the dodgy areas and unless you are very unlucky no one is going to shoot you.

You with your gun (if you could get one) and newb skillz would lose in a gunfight.

Planning on, not sure how realistic it is but its a good excuse to ride lots!

I didn’t think you needed an excuse to ride lots.

I rode on Friday, that’ll probably be it until the new year for me.

Seriously though I had a frame with little clearance, and the ring did cut the stay. I guess I’d give it a whirl before taking any “remedial” action.

What’s the climb from the Chapel side of Peak Forest up towards Sparrowpit? I’ve never managed to find it and it’s supposed to be a killer.

I’ve ridden down it a lot of times but never up it. I think if you had a spotter for traffic at the bottom you could do well over 50mph down it.

    It’s probably gone under the radar because under current forum rules it’s no longer alright to point out the obvious failings of even the most inept of its users. But in a non judgemental way let me point out a few facts for you to mull over;
No two head are exactly the same.
Even when one does find a suitably shaped helmet, not everyone is skilled enough to fit it properly.
Not every parent/carer is careful enough not to harm a child while performing the fairly basic task of adjusting straps and closing the buckle without injuring the child/service user.
But thanks for sharing your experience.

Hoozah, you win the wittier than the OP prize without adding anything useful to add.

Particular highlights “Not every parent/carer is careful enough not to harm a child” yeh right.

Yep, I don’t get the cloud either.

You can get an iphone with 64GB of memory now, though I manage quite happily with 16GB.

It costs for >5GB cloud storage + data costs if you go over your phone’s contract usage on 3g+ etc.

So in other words you know no more than the rest of us.
Only you’ve made an assumption that its ok. Your choice.

Yes an assumption, based on logic, and not on unscientific hearsay.

    richpips

richpips you seem to know a lot about it being ok. Perhaps you would like to share your knowledge, rather than just rubbishing everyone elses comments?

Sorry to disappoint, my knowledge is no more scientific than the rest of the posters on the thread.

But if we presume a child has a shoe that fits with properly with a cleat in the correct position, which is then clipped into a SPD pedal that they can easily get out of. Then how the fact that they have “soft bones” “are still growing” has any bearing on them using SPDs alludes me.

Fell free to point me to some proper science that proves otherwise.

    richpips

Bones are softer in children, too. I understand this is another reason why children shouldn’t use SPDs.

    Please explain further…..

    richpips
    Free Member

SPDs if not set up properly can cause knee issues in adults. Conversely young still developing limbs / muscles and tendons could be forced into the wrong position and cause damage in the long term.

Yep all the above is true if you don’t set the cleats up properly.

Mike King: “My motivation to use SPD pedals/shoes had to do with the ABA introducing a pro time trial in 1995. Then it helped me when I was racing mountain bikes. However, I think the clip debate is overrated. I don’t think kids under 10 years old should be racing in them and I believe this has effected how tracks are designed today.

Oh so a rider with no scientific backing says kids shouldn’t use them. OK

    richpips

I have heard it suggested that SPDs for kids whilst they are still growing can cause issues later on.

And what might those be?

As irelanst said womens shoes go small, my lad has some, age 7.

Google says you can sync your phone even if the password is on.

So you get the data off the phone, then reset phone, and sync again to get your data etc back on your phone.

edit – and the phone will only sync if it has synced with your computer before.
