Avid Shorty ultimates…almost as good as ‘real’ brakes.

Yep, I’ve had lots of rubbish cantis over the years and the Ultimates are far far better.

Make sure you put the sanding belts on the drum very tightly.

Get far more belts than you think you will need.

Cool, so any canti designed brake lever should work with a road/CX disc brake? Whereas v-brake one would be for mountain bike mechanical discs?

    Correct.

As someone who has done some stuff on a fixed wheel over the years, a sort of chapeau.

Presuming he didn’t walk up the steep bits, the downhills would have been rubbish.

    Just watched that.

    Excellent.

Since seriously starting using Strava I have “discovered” a number of roads and BWs round here that I’ve never encountered before.

In many cases I went looking for a segment, but instead found a really nice place to ride.

Are there any new trails or have they just linked together existing bridleways, given it a name and signposted it?

For the most part they’ve just put up some new arrows, though eventually there is supposed to be an alternative to riding on Monks Rd.

I did the Kinder Loop today. There were some horses in Jaggers, and that was it.

I saw little evidence of horses elsewhere other than the TPT.

Though I don’t get over Cut Gate often, I do the Roych most weeks, and have yet to encounter a horse.

The Peak is rubbish for mountain biking, you were lucky to escape with your life.

horrified about the guy being pushed into the lake, thats awfull!

You could actually see evidence on the ground after as to where they’d gone in.

Some **** from Brotherton Cycles tried to force his way past me on the same section earlier. He knows who he is and I’ve already told him he’s a ****.

Pathetic really because there were so many places to overtake on the course compared to the usual 24 hr courses.

I liked the course and with out willy waving rode most of it until I got into double figures, excluding the first sharp grassy climb and the slippy limestone one.

I guess the more skilled and fit will find it boring, and the less fit etc will find it epic. Hard (as ever) to find a happy balance for all riders.

Chatted with some great people whilst out on the course.

    😀

A friend just bought round 4 packets of mini rolls for the kids.

I’ve eaten a packet of them.

Nope, as cp says if it starts or finishes in your privacy zone it won’t register.

Garmin Dakota 20 (like the 800 but a different form factor, and a lot cheaper)

Impossible to say without knowing your riders.

But if I was out on my own I’d expect to average 15-18mph dependant on terrain.

My 8 year old lad will average just over 10mph on a day out.

There’s an ex pro round here who has been known to drive round with his GPS on then upload it to Strava.

It’s a bit of fun, don’t take it to seriously.

(I did get a KOM today though) 😉

Tubeless on the road why, and I’m running tubeless rims?

Also the frame may not be designed for the extra stress a long fork will put on it so could fail in a worst case scenario.

Yes that had occurred to me, especially as the tubes are bonded rather than welded. 😯

This was done a few months back IIRC.

More like a couple of weeks back.

I have kids, glad I don’t permanently have a dog though (we are looking after one at the moment).

I got battered in a hailstorm today whilst out riding. I remember thinking the last time that happened on a bike I would have been 14 or 15. 30+ years ago.

I’ve often thought that the majority of triathletes would do quite well at their strong sport if they concentrated their energies there. Instead they spend hours going from rubbish to mediocre in at least one of the other two disciplines.

Hmm, is there some simple way to see all your achievements? Not just KOMs, of which I have zero, but personal bests etc?

There is loads of info on the URL below if you upload your rides.

I have 2 pairs of their winter tights (£45 a pair iirc) and they are ace.

They’re more expensive cycling stuff is very good, they’re cheap stuff is rubbish.

I’d be most impressed if you found a solution with those forks.

Reduce the spring rate and then watch the stiction increase.

Get some light rigid forks, aged 5-7 the weight is ore important than 2″ of rubbish suspension.

@rich didn’t mean it that way, erosion happens I mean how dry it looks!! Don’t think I’ve ever seen that place like that – looks like someone’s holiday shot

Very dry out today, we’ve not bothered cleaning the bikes. 🙂

it does seem a nice place but TBH if I did get off my arse and look to more rural places with excellent riding I reckon I’d be heading lakes direction rather than peak, as nice as peak is lakes kicks it’s arse in my opinion.

Whilst the lakes is truly awesome it is not known for it’s proximity to Manchester.

    Thanks for your comments.

I’ve been for a spin on it this afternoon, and it’s not what I’m after as is.

Will post an advert later in the classifieds 😉
