1.5″ or 1.8″ tyres and lock the suspension out if you can.

Courses where you have to carry your bike will result in misery, else you’ll be fine.

I could notice the brake cable pulling away from the bars under the tape.

Which would suggest the cable outer isn’t long enough. Taping the cable to the bars should just be for tidying them up.

“Amazed richpips is at the weight he is, but it seems to vary hugely from person to person.”

The heaviest I’ve ever been is 67Kg during a couple of lazy years.

I don’t worry about food or beer intake, though I do ride a fair bit – 3700 miles and 330,000’since January.

If I fussed over my diet, no doubt I’d look like that dude up there. ^^^^

I’m currently at 61kg, but I’m pretty short at 170cm.

I weigh the same, but am 180cm.

In my experience, those who don’t do sport make negative comments on my streamlined appearance.

Those that run or cycle that I know say I look fit (sic).

The reality skinny or fit, is I’m probably the fastest on my bike I’ve been for years.

    Nope.

    I have one of these.

Also what kit do I need to get ? Thinking Co2 inflator, spare tubes, levers etc or any other suggestions as to essential road kit ?

Also allen key and chain tool. A small pump is probably lighter than CO2 stuff, and certainly more reliable.

An alternative to a saddlebag is a tool bottle that fits in one of your bottle cages. Either way jersey pockets are for a bit of food, windproof and arm warmers. Not, a load of heavy stuff that’ll hang over your arse and wobble about.

Forget the rabbits for a minute.

Your neighbour is putting poison within reach of your children.

I’d contact the police again with that information.

Mr pips that is horrific. Please get a trailer or roof box.

I’ve bought a smaller tent now so the baguette will fit in the back. 😉

You really are not helping to fuel, my apparently baseless, indignation, Rich.

    I know. 🙂

The reality though is for most stuff you’ll get more for your old tat there than anywhere else even with their fees.

So all one needs to do is add an extra £1 for “packing” which will cover £10 worth of postage.

This was on the way to Mayhem, but the car was near the same for our recent 2 week camping holiday with two bikes.

    Kangoo FTW.

Lots of sellers load their postage to avoid seller fees, which won’t work anymore.

The weight of tge bike has a disproportioate effect on strava too, 30lb mtb records almost double the power of the 15lb road bike, presumably because it infers the mtb is off road and has draggy tyres.

I’m no physicist, but surely to move 30lbs up a hill requires twice the power that 15lbs does?

I had one recently. It was heavy and had twitchy handling.

Paid £50 with a spare set of wheels for mine.

It’s an approximate calculation of the watts you are using.

22W would suggest you are on a downhill section.

230W that you were putting in some effort of the flat or uphill.

Obesity levels in Scotland are much worse than shown in official figures released earlier this year.

Just back from a trip to the Highlands. There are some big folk up there.

Our village was in a similar position some years ago. If no one else chips in I’ll put you in touch wit my FiL who sorted out something and still is up to date with the latest tech.

Being doing plenty of cycling, maybe not enough carrying yet.

I’ve targeted descending with speed on rough rocky stuff. My carbon CX bike is looking the worse for this as are my wheels.

That’s the best thing I’ve seen on here for a good while.

I’ve a running mate who’s had all of his removed, though not by his own hands.

Interesting question. I would say my fastest wheels on an up and down ride weren’t actually my lightest. The heavier ones feel a good bit stiffer though.

    1400g vs 1650g.

    Yes, on the road.

You are right though, we’ve done a number of trails round here recently that I’d normally stay well clear of.

Halfway point for me. Had tonight off, was over at Colne for the crit race but will start doing some off-road loops tomorrow. All my riding so far has been on-road so it’ll be good to mix it up a bit.

Might finish off with some stupid epic ride on Sunday in the Lakes or Dales.

    Wondered where you were tonight.

Tom said you were slacking. 🙂

    Finished it today.

Well done. Our average speed is obviously slower than yours, but yes, much slower than we’d normally be.

    plop_pants

How are your riding this? Just choosing hilly loops or, like a friend of mine, finding a couple of hills and just riding up and down them multiple times. I can’t understand it myself but if he’s happy…..

I’ve tried to vary our rides as much as possible, we’ve also visited a good few new roads and BWs.

Reps, my life is too short. I am very grateful that i’m not going to ride up a particular hill for a couple of weeks after this one though. We’ve been up it at least once each day (leaving our valley.)

    “Proper Mountain Bike”

I got bored with real mountain bikes.

Cyclo-cross bikes are where it’s at. Fast up the hills, and sometimes a bit slower down them.

Good photo, i feel like a cheat now all my elevation so far has been on the road!

Thanks. Safety first for us, the roads round here are bonkers for fast traffic at the only times we have free to ride as I found out particularly last night.

~800 metres of up today and near all off road. 50% done now.

Old 9 speed XT rear mech,SRAM 11-32 10 sp cassette,105 sti and a 40t chainring. Chain retention is a 44t ring with all the teeth ground off as an outer and a drop stop.
Survived 3 peaks without issue so I’d class it as a win.

I was considering doing this, did you not find yourself under/over geared?
