I’m I being really dim here but surely the lower score the better by reaching the elusive 2048 tile?

Yes, there must be a “perfect” minimum score for acheiving the goal.

My last attempt below I’ve got all the tiles required, they’re just in the wrong place.

    So frustrating !

    Just one more go…….

    Getting closer.

I think I have the strategy nailed, but keep on making dumb mistakes.

    Good find OP! :)

I rode Roych Clough last weekend. Its actually ok. I was expecting a Chapel Gate surface

Roych Clough, (South head to Rushup) has had loads of stuff done over the years, and some low key bits recently.

The original approach was to fill the sunken track, no ravine would be more accurate in parts. This initially made the track more rideable, but of course weathered over time. It’s still mostly good and rideable, if you go for the challenge line there’s still fun to be had. There are few who make it fom bottom to top without pushing.

There are other choices now. You can follow the sunken track, or there’s a “trail centre” line covered in some non local stone gravel.

The chapel gate track has been tarmaced for far longer than we have ever ridden bikes up there. Iirc there was a forces thing up there a long time back.

Having ridden Edale road with some intent to get up there quickly today, I can say it rides OK from the bottom.

Loads better than it was before. Traction is still marginal though. It should settle nicely.

The top section above Stony Ford is still wild west though.

I did see a couple of NT landies up near the top. No sign of them doing further work though.

Qwerty (not him) don’t do servicing.p but they will sell you the tools.

Yep seen those, google suggests that their cheaper castle tool may not fit, so best part of £100 needed for the just the tools.

You need to be patient with Thumbprint.

I’ll be patient then. Looks like he knows his stuff from comments elsewhere.

Leisure Lakes, at the confusingly-named Nottingham branch, do Cannondale fork service. I had my Lefty done there and they were fine.

    Ta, I will investigate.

I had one for a few years. If I had the room for lots of bikes, I’d still have it.

I’m also dead against getting vouchers for travel given the lack of protection afforded should the company go belly-up. I know it’s not very British, but how would you go about suggesting cash as a gift?

    I wish I was invited.

Hayfield, Highgate, Roych, Rushup, Chapel Gate, Edale, Jacobs, Campsite descent, Hayfield.

Well under 2 hrs is my best. Though I’d consider 2 1/2 a pleasant pace.

Edit: Your original route – (The bit from the res. via Broad Clough towards Edale Cross especially in the direction mentioned is rubbish this time of year)

….Looking back, when I used to do a lot of miles I was a lousy driver though. I could double guess everything, and speed limits never really mattered.

Hands free, I remember taking a call once which was important and lasted 10 minutes. At the end of the call I realised I had driven for the last of those 5 minutes in completely the wrong direction.

Thankfully I’ve never had an accident in a car despite my previous awesome driving abilities.

I take a peverse pleasure in seeing people behind me getting angry at doing the speed limit.

    Me too.

Hmm, on the 1:50 it looked like a BW, on the 1:25 it’s a FP.

Either way it’s a blocked ROW.

I’ve reported the Phoside BW loss to the DCC.

    Its hard work being outraged

Looks like some outrage may be in order.

I went up Phoside earlier and took some piccies.

I spoke to someone up there (not the tenant, or landowner) and they have fenced off a large section of Foxholes Clough to plant 6000 broad leaf trees.

There used to be a path that I always used as a descent (which is marked on the map SK 034 857) this is now inaccesible. Instead you have to continue to SK 034 858 before turning right.

    From the bottom.

    From the top.

I also went up to the track to New Allotments. They are rebuilding the wall, and appear to be chucking the junk into holes in the path. No one to talk to up there though.

I see the horse rider avoided the boulders.

The horse did, but you’ll also see a number of tyre marks there.

It’s very rare that I see a horse up there though.

I’m presuming Coldwell Clough and Edale Road are one and the same

Coldwell Clough is at the bottom of the section. If you know where Edale Cross is, the track that joins the two.

Hayfield has had some very heavy rain events in 2013. We had nearly two inches of rain in under an hour on one day, which caused lots of localised flooding and damaged a number of trails in part. I can think of a few sections that had similar big holes as the one my bike is pictured in above.

I’m confused. are we saying that now we’ve seen the repairs on Edale road we’re happy with them or are we still angry?

Seems like they’ve done a good job to me. Once there’s been some traffic and weather it’ll be OK.

There looks to be a few inches only of cover, there is a transition picture.

I’ll pop up Chinley Churn tomorrow.

I got a few PRs tonight even though I was stopping for pictures.

I went up Edale Rd as far as Stony Ford.

Can’t really see what the fuss is about. The bottom section that for years had limestone ball bearings is much better.

The (current) works goes as far as the turn off to Kinder Low, above that, so far it’s the same as before.

Pictures go from the bottom gate as far as the gnarly bit below the ford.

Note the alt. (created) path above the improved sections. There is lots more of this stuff above the ford. In fact the fence on the lower section was built some years back as the field was ridden in preference to the track.

There are obviously lots of riders on Edale Rd and elsewhere who don’t have the awesumz skillz of the average STW rider.

This was Edale Rd in September on the section that has recently been refurbed.

This particular section has suffered quite badly with water erosion this year.

    Some positive news today….

“Gus is no longer in intensive care, and is breathing completely naturally now. Most encouragingly, he has recently had some periods of consciousness when he has been able to speak and respond to questions. His other injuries appear to be making good progress. He continues to sleep a lot or falls back into semi-consciousness, and tires quickly.”

Is anyone going to claim it – riding up Jacob’s? Often talked about but I don’t know anyone who has actually done it. It’s one of my riding ambitions for sure. But whether I will ever get there I don’t know…

I did a photshoot once with a rider who rode it all in bits. He’d previously done it all with no dibs though.

    This fella. ;)

I was going to ask, do the people who ride these climbs have a granny ring?

I feel I have ZERO chance of riding up Jacob’s with my 9 gears.

There are few people even with a low enough gear that’ll ride up Jacob’s.

I think they’re gutted now that they’ve got no cover for their dogs shitting everywhere rather than picking it up as they should do.

    That’s my expert opinion.

@richp – don’t get me wrong, I really like the X100 but have you seen the size of the GR D IV. Its not much worse than having a smart phone in your pocket and its ergonomics are off the scale.

Yep, it’s smaller, but tbh my camera phone does a fair job if I haven’t the capacity to carry the X100.

I’d buy a 2nd hand Fujifilm X100 for that money.
