I’m not even going to wait for the weather forecast.

I’ll give it my all during the days riding, at night I want comfortable dry and midge free sleep.

Taking bivvy bag, sleeping bag and thermarest, but no cooking equip to keep the weight and bulk down.

I’ll try to sleep in bothies where possible if it’s raining, even if this means going a couple of km off route.

    Are you taking a tarp?

If you are planning on staying at the bothies, (I have them marked on the GPS just in case) remember they can be both noisy, and comparatively cold, For some you’ll need a good sleeping mat.

    Yep Ant+ capability.

Etrex 20/30 or Dakota 20 are the choices if you are going multiday though, unless you are running an USB charger.

My only concern was taking them off road.

I’d check with him that they are 2nd gen rims.

Bought some last year. They’re OK for cheap shorts if you ride for an hour or too. They lasted me about 4 months before the stitching started to undo.

    I wouldn’t buy another pair.

I bought some of the first ones, and have cracked ome of the rims by the spokes. I did use them on my CX bike though.

My lad is 9, and I have to work hard to stay with him on the downhills offroad.

He has skill and no fear. I’ve probably more skill, but don’t fancy a trip in the air ambulance.

I ran in the Totley fell race last night, the course went through a field with (brown fwiw) cows in it, i would guess that 200 people running through their field had spooked them, and they were getting a bit ‘stampedey’.

i think someone got a bit stepped on, broken ribs, etc. later on i heard screaming (!) and sirens.

    yes, those feckers are dangerous.

He did, he’s in Sheffield with broken ribs and fluid on the lung, hence the OP.

stop on the left and turn when all is clear. You are very vulnerable when sitting in the middle of the road.

Michael Moorcock – The Ice Schooner is the only book that has stuck with me. I read loads of other 1960s pulp tat.

But yes, I treat with respect, especially the shaggy ones with sharp horns that have been wandering around the campsite descent recently.

They are clumsy fckrs, they’ve damaged most of the saplings and smaller trees on there and Elle bank. I wouldn’t challenge them, they’d hit you if trying to avoid you.

If turning right across a busy road, I tell my lad to wait until it is clear in all directions before moving across the road.

Tbh if I hadn’t witnessed a mate of mine come of much worse some years ago, I would have said that girl was doing nothing wrong.

The reality is that a motorist may not see you if you are stationary.

    City boy huh?

The Dexter pub near Shadwell in Leeds is named after my grandfather’s farm.

My Mum recently retired has had a different farm for 30 years.

I wouldn’t call myself a farm boy, but certainly know the score.

It was more a PSA for those who don’t know. Even if there aren’t calves in the field, a lot of them are close to dropping now. Hormonal.

    Were they Fresians?

The one who chased my daughter was.

I’ve got a gpx file of the run in to the end which mainly clings to the waterfront if you want it.

It’s not my manor, but I’d avoid the roads we saw on the way in.

Before Strava existed, I use to ride the promenade often, If it was quiet you could go quite fast, I imagine with a following wind the KOM would be around 30 mph.

However on a nice sunny day, there are kids, dogs and long fishing rods to avoid so not really the place to ride fast.

Was that the only off road segment in Liverpool?

Serious question here, how much of this drinking and riding is done on roads?

I did an ace road loop with my Mrs before we were married round Snowdon. Ride, pub, pint, ride etc etc. Llanberis pass on the in run was a hoot. :)

It’s the driest it’s been this year.

We visited yesterday, it was surprisingy quiet.

You can’t find out who created a segment.

You can find who rode a segment, by day, week, year etc.

It was nice to thank someone recently who I found via strava for returning my phone.

I know a few ladies who are in their seventies and eighties, and a couple in their fifties who are long term survivors of BC.

    Best luck for your misses.

OK ta some good ideas. I’m going to stick a new BB in there and see if it plays nice before I do anything radical.

Up Rossett Pike with a loaded bike. I can’t think of anything less appealing.

Staveley and the Garburn pass would be a better option in bad weather.

Part of the knack is being able to do this on ‘autopilot’ when you’re cold and spent.

I have some previous as a climber. A sleeping bag will be luxury.

    richpips

I’m hoping to get as many nights put as possible as I reckon the whole camping/bivvying thing will be just as important – especially for those of us planning 7 or more nights out.

Interesting, not thought of that. My plan was just to get into my sleeping and bivy bag when exhausted. I shan’t be cooking.

Stupid question, but what are people doing for training?

Just ticked over during the winter, but the last couple of weeks –

Trying to get plenty of climbing in, including hike a bike.

Riding hard with a minimum of recovery for 2-3 hours, rather than going out and pottering for hours and hours.

Will aim to increase duration for some rides as we get closer.

eg. An off road 135 miler in a couple of weeks time.

Been wondering too, I swear all traffic was banned yet I still bikes & 4x4s using it.

At present all they need to do is open a gate and access is theirs. Elsewhere in the country they fortify access when there has been a change of use. Hence my original question.

I’ve just sent an email to the PDNP rights of way folk, to see what they have to say.

A 14 year old girl in some walking boots is more damaging to the trails than a fat bloke on orange patriot ?

Downhill maybe. Uphill no, he’ll be walking too.

Do you say Strava! and the gates spring open and sigh?

Nope, I open and shut them all on my own just like you.

The only difference I guess is you don’t do Strava. ;)

    For the record

    a) the motorbikers shut all the gates.

    b) I’m a local strava “God” and I don’t need to leave any gates open.

Worthy of mention if anyone is considering riding it in the near future.

The BW is partially closed due to what looks trail improvements.

If you use the wooden bridge to cross the river watch out, as there is a big hole in the middle, and what’s left doesn’t look that sturdy either.

For the first time I went up rather than down, and I don’t think there’s much less you can ride in that direction. :)

Back to the 550 – does this have any detail of the topography etc?

Tracklogs says there’s 20,000 metres of climbing if that helps.
