The pros for me are there is no derraileur /hangar to break, and a chain will last longer than on a conventional setup.

2 v brakes AND a hub brake on the rear wheel? For big skids fully loaded?

The hub brake is a drag brake to scrub speed on long descents. If you relied on rim brakes alone, you’d melt the rims/explode the tyres etc.

Forgetting his tone for a minute, he seems to have thought through his needs quite well.
