Thanks, he was lucky and came off with plenty of gravel rash, but no broken bones thankfully. He did say that the heat was hard to deal with. He did a few night shifts on the bike.

    This one? – https://www.100cols.nl/

My son had a go at it last year though crashed out on the Bonette 1900 miles in. He’s planning on going back out and finishing it at some stage.

I did 1700 miles last summer on a Colibri with 35mm GP5000s through Belgium Holland and France. Rough lanes, cobbles, farm tracks all no problem. Incidentally the angles on the first Caminos and the current Colibris are pretty similar.

Whatever, but until then, myself, my son and his girlfriend have signed up. All solo.

Avoid the South coast of France in summer. Hectic and you’ll get rinsed at campsites.

You can use ridewithgps. I don’t know about Strava routes though.

It’s the syncing to two accounts depending on who is riding I am curious about

My son uses mine sometimes.  You’ll need to swap over your Strava on Garmin connect, you need to be mindful of this below…..
After your first upload, Garmin will also sync your past 90 days of activity to Strava.

We get round it buy clearing all previous activities from the unit.

You can install Komoot on it to transfer routes you’ve got in your library. I also use http://www.cycle.travel to make routes on the fly. Auto syncing with Strava is easy to setup.

For anyone interested in the old Seiko Quartz watches, this link illustrates just how much work went into the making of these watches.

Twin movement hence the double cockandballs emblem I think you explained before?  That is accurate,  even for a quartz!

They are nice watches, especially for the money today. They were 100,000 yem back in the 70s

    Proper quality.

I’m trying to have a break from buying watches as for now I’ve got most bases covered in my collection. A selection of rufty tufty watches, some dress watches and some in betweeners.

This one caught my eye though and at a price not to be refused.

A 1978 Grand Quartz Seiko with a Silver Snow dial. It has a twin quartz movement to compensate for temperature variances and was advertised with an accuracy of +/- 10 seconds a year.

I think we’ve done it 6 times. This pic was  mine andTom’s first in 2012. The weather that year was disgusting on 7 of the 8 days.

I woke up this morning to hear the rain on the velux and thought sod that.

My faves were the two we did in Mallorca!

I sold a couple of watches this weekend and by coincidence, this Baltic turned up on ebay.

I’ve been after one since the launch and it was a toss-up between this, the brown or the cream face model.

I used to do all my cycling with my son. Now he’s grown up it’s a rarity. This was a good day out.

A month and 1700 miles mainly through France.

Up in the northern loop of  the Highland Trail 550 just before storm Babet curtailed my trip.

This turned up today a Seiko Sarg011

    @boblo

A symbol that signifies a single quartz movement.

Some later models had twin quartz movements – a symbol with two cocks and three balls.

This beauty turned up this morning.

A gold capped diamond dust face 1977 Seiko Grand Quartz.

I sent the brown Alpinist back after some reflection. No faults as such other than an unexciting watch face.

I bought a Seiko SARG011 and a Seiko Grand Quartz today as compensation. Two different watches.

Pics when they arrive next week.

Today’s delivery is truly a thing of beauty. A rice paper dial with a textured body and strap.

A 1975  Seiko King Quartz catalogue model O8KQW

Advertised as accurate to 10 seconds a month back in the day!

For that money I’d be going with an Orient Sun & Moon.

I believe the Orient isn’t a calendar display, its a day / night.

    I do like this …

    Farer Eddington watch

I see there was a 39mm steel Master Moon but only in a silver dial or…. a meteorite dial! That’s pretty funky and I do very occasionally encounter Widmanstätten microstructures in my work. However, none on sale in Europe so far as I can see.

I’m on the look out for a moon phase watch, one that’s not so busy, and less spendy.

New watch day. I’ve been after an alpinist colourway watch for a while and this ticks that box nicely.

The route is done all the time by people who are truly supported. There are a few companies who do it.

If you ride all the way from Banff to Antelope Wells, it’s still a big achievement.

Pretending things haven’t moved on like the TD website is naive.

    Today’s ebay delivery.

A no name watch with Seiko VH31 movement and a sapphire crystal.

Not sure the lume is up to much, but less than £50 to my door.

Another Citizen, which I picked up on ebay. My OCD dislikes that the seconds hand don’t quite line up with the markers but otherwise I like the look.
