Been there too! had a yeti 575 sold that and bought a cotic soul and many other hardtails, thing is you will be more tired on a hardtail after a few hours riding and you cant keep the power down over the ruff and steel is not that light so you will have the same weight as your five and less comfort, control etc . I bought a short travel trail bike, 120mm , problem solved !!! just enough to take the edge off but requires bit more skill than your 140mm five and lighter !

depends if you walk some of the trails if the going gets tough but I’m not ashamed to be in granny ring better than walking 🙂

I too have a superlight and tried 1×9 11-34 cassette and 34t up front it was good for local ride but not so good for big days out, wales …quantocks etc . The plus side was saving weight and no dropping the chain …depends where you live really ?

climbs well in my eyes really is a fast ride on the trails pedals well compared to my older 575 but then again it should with less travel 🙂

whats it like with sids on ? I put 120mm for more trail type riding …36t 22t is a good set up IMO 36t is slap in between a 32t and 42t triple

I had a 2008 yeti 575 which I used for mainly xc trail riding and the carbon swing arm snapped ! my mate would follow me and see my rear end flex so much it was scary ! I stick to alloy now as I have had a bad experience with carbon 🙁

i’m liking the sound of 26-38 but will a 38t chainring be a big to hard as on a regular set up I use the 32t for climbing sometimes

just to say one thing about BOBS I joined a few couple of years back and they have trails beyond swinley which IMO is awesome if not better which can be ridden in the winter given swinley a chance ! so joining a club can be a good thing 🙂

just bought a santa cruz superlight frame and put 120mm forks up front its rides so well ! just enough travel to blast on the downhills and the 100mm at the rear is really plush , cant see why I need anything more IMO 🙂
