I've got a roadrat which I've just retrofitted with SLX discs. Really like it for the commute and ticks all of your boxes.

I got some Reba Race from Merlin – got them on my Soul and found them absolutely fantastic.

How about a bit of Brass Rubbing?

I know nothing about Canterbury, beyond standing in or around it in the dark trying to hitch hike to Paris when I was a student.

I'd go with the nice lunch somewhere. You can save the naked zorbing for the second date

Nervous on a first date and you want him to order £uck Dajitas?!?!

st gives a fairer, better informed and more considered view than mine – Hagley must have improved after I left…

I'd build it into the down tube and charge it through the bottle cage allen bolts – just to confound the UCI chappie with his allen key and torch ;)

Used to live in Little Haywood which is nice, now live in Lichfield which is also nice. Plenty of other villages around which are good. Where are you going to be working?

Rugeley is right on the doorstep of the Chase, easily bikeable to it. Brereton Wheelers road club seem fairly active.

Only problem is Rugeley is a bit of a dump…though at least it's not Cannock! Not sure about schools now. Speaking as an alumnus, Hagley Park High School used to be a bit of a school of hard knocks – though latest head teacher seems to have sorted it out a bit.

    No idea on primary schools.

Don't suppose it would do any harm. Bonus points for the annoying torx with the pin in the middle. Better still, try not to leave bike exposed in that dodgy an area

Get a MasterCard or Visa something or other. Tesco good due to clubcard points and if you've got any major purchases coming up and can get one get Amex platinum credit card – 5% cashback for first three months

Lazy story for lazy tabloid writers. No one normal cares – would be nice to give the squareheads a hiding though! :)

For a posh bike I'd second the Almax idea. Find something really solid and deliver the Almax there by car and leave it attached. Carrying one around is going to knacker you. Only downside is someone supergluing the lock mechanism over night… I'd personally go for the cheaper lock and a snotter for commuting if you can't park securely.

Obi. It actually seems to me that our fat fingered friend led a useful training session for medical professionals. How to solve this particular problem as easily as possible and more usefully how to use the Internet if you're presented with something outside your experience because someone, somewhere has dealt with it before and a quick google can save a lot of time

There's some pony being trotted out on this thread. Suspect for most of us the answer us that we're not sure what we do, we just get on with it

The new orange ones are nice. Moving forks across from inbred or new ones?

£1.99 is taking the pss. I've just had to shell out £9 on olives for my SLX brakes. £6 for each end, followed by another £3 as I'd forgotten to get the rubber shroud in place (doh). Don't think I've spent that much money on that little metal without it coming in a box from the jewellers and being followed by a shag!

Trek 820 for me in Red. Raced it in Cannock Chase Classic 1990ish and toured Scotland on it. Had it nicked from outside girlfriends

When I was a kid I drafted a roadie and decided to overtake him as ge wasn't going that fast. He gave me a shove and succeeded in knocking us both off. I landed on feet and ran along road. He bounced a long on chin and bloodied his nose and hence avoided me adding to his injuries! I think he just had a surge of adrenaline and lost the plot. Busy road so lucky he didn't get us both killed.

I'm not precious, as people have said if someone is going fast enough or she takes a turn and has a nice bum then good times!

Depends where you are. Collection of waste is either a District council function or if you're in a unitary area then it's just your only council. As someone said, give them a call and ask them to advise you on what they will recycle and what they won't and general advice on waste and waste minimisation

Fat Eric acting for entirely selfish reasons – doesn't want pizza boxes and empty bargain buckets kicking around.

I got the Salsa alloy ones – pro moto. Nice and wide and you don't get people looking at you funny like you do with risers

Also need active specs. Went into local Sony shop and watched demo- very impressive. Glasses are £100 a pair and do something clever – switch polarisation or block each eye 400x a second. Not quite the same as the green and red ones you got with your super soaraway for looking at becky's tits on page 3d

Don't stress on it. Fat Eric (Pickles) wants councils to start weekly collections again. You'll be able to throw as much crap as you like away again soon without needing to worry about that recycling nonsense

Clowner – does gps give true average – distance/time taken or average discounting stopped time? Just curious how the gps works it out. My cheapie comp does the cheating one

Aidy. Unless you're riding in a group or wearing a smurf hat and riding a time trial bike I reckon 70 miles in 3 hrs is seriously impressive. Good work fella

Anyone knocking on towards 20 is impressive. As someone else said, biggest determiner of speed for me is catching traffic lights well, and having a clear run through Muckley corner roundabout

Toeclips and straps for me. Resisted spds for ages and despite using spds for 5 or 6 years I'm still not as confident on the 'silly steep' downs as I was with Mt. Christophe clips and straps. There's also something fantastically functional and purposeful about them
