I'd buy one of 'those' Moots posts – cue the pic

Mostly for me it's American TV series that are written/make sense as 1 series but then go crap when they get good ratings and have to get spun out into 2,3,4,5 series

    – prison break, heroes etc

I like to browse the Assos site. Some of the lady's bibs on there look great, though as a fella I've got no opinion on comfort!

I bought a groove armada from On-one. Not silly wide but wider than the f
Gusset thing originally fitted. Had to buy a set of spacers from Charlie the bikemonger or londonfixie to accommodate thicker cog

3 was lifechanging. First proper unified device which I'd been looking forward to since first got a Palm Pilot. 4 is incrementally better but in an evolutionary way rather than revolutionary.

Bought mine with a bumper as I'm a bit hamfisted – looks like Steve is giving me my money back – which is nice. Flashie, I can only guess that the bottom has dropped out of that aftermarket case company that you had shares in? :-)

If you couldn't spend £140k a year, you lack imagination. I've just spent double that in my mental trolley dash and I've not even got to the coke and hookers aisle yet!

Don't you read the mags? All bikes score above average now ;-)

You need a Hope Post mount to IS adapter. Google is your friend. Think mine eventually came from Wiggle for about a tenner. If you've got 203mm rotors you also need a couple of small washers between post mounts and adapter. If you have 203 compatible m4s then god knows what you do as the Hope adapter adds 20mm. So you need a bigger disc. Standard 180mm calipers + adapter requires 200mm rotor

There's some tools on here! A cyclist calls a group of cyclists on riding like dicks – which it sounds like they were being, and there's always someone foaming at the mouth that he's in the wrong. If a fellow cyclist thinks riding four abreast was wrong and held up traffic, then it wouldn't be doing much for the general public's perception

Have you tried regular butter? If it's good enough for Maria Schneider…

This has, as is often the way of STW, turned into a really interesting thread. Interesting to see the different viewpoints on what are reasonable and unreasonable expectations and whether and how shops try to meet them

Bassspine – I think you're missing the point. There's various advantages of an LBS but probably the most important is being able to walk out with one of the cycling staples – tube, tyre, chain, cable, hose, cassette etc which the bloody well should stock. I'm not saying they should have one of everything but for those interchangeable bits go they should have something which makes your bike rideable and saves you missing a ride.

Mine had this problem, which I suspect was caused by MOT at 3 yrs. Managed to get my ABS pump replaced under warranty as I was still a day inside 3 yrs. Would have been a £1600 job according to garage. VW are a bit naughty, are aware of it but haven't sorted it through recall. They will pay towards repair if challenged.

I'm happy to pay a bit of a premium – lbs tax – to be able to walk out of the shop with it there and then. Once it becomes we'll order it in then it's online for me

I'm 5'10" with 31" inside leg and ride a medium. I bought mine based on a review without riding it but have been really pleased with it, don't feel the urge to change and if I broke it would probably buy another. Having said that there are a lot of frames out there and it would be worth looking around and canvassing opinion before you buy

Never had that with mine either. Held hose in hand and whacked barb in with a short piece of skirting board! You'll be telling me next there's a better way!?

I did after a vigorous run – not 63 miles though. Got it checked out and it was just one of those things

I've just done this with my SLX and have no idea what the vice adapter is?? I just cut mine off square using a sharp knife on a wooden block

Without trying to hijack your thread, I've got some magic beans going for a very reasonable price which would multiply up the luckiness of the lucky pants.

I also did a WTF, on seeing BW was a part of selling snake oil

I don't use Ebay that much but have had a big clearout in the garage and had quite a bit of stuff to get rid of.

I do think there's something wrong when I'm compelled to use their payment system with the associated fees but can just about swallow that. Having to pay postage and send goods off with the promise that I might get paid early if the seller remembers to give me feedback is just a nonsense.

Reported Ebay/Paypal to OFT before and got nothing but it might be time for another letter.

Just had SLX from Ribble too. Seem good, though mine need a bit more bleeding as made a pig's ear of chopping the hose down

I had something similar when I was using a hope adapter. Slackened post mount bolts on slotted adapter and recentred. Suspect if your setup is all postmount that's not possible?

If she's like that now then she's not going to improve… Find someone else and let someone else put up with her, oh, and obviously post those pics you've got tucked away ;)

Is Cadence any good? Stumbled across it whilst going for a coffee at what used to be Kindling but it was closed.

Good call by the OP to finish the silly cow too. Have a wander around the threads here, there'll be someone offering up a sister I'd imagine. If not in chat try the classifieds for a lightly ridden one in good condition

I'm with SFB – that framebag monstrosity looks like some cosmic designs thing from 1991 that never stopped growing. Wouldn't fancy it if it was gusty either

I've kind of gone the other way. Gone from 130mm Phaons on my Soul to 100mm Rebas. Might be shorter fork, newer fork, stiffer fork or any combination of the above but Soul feels better for the type of riding I do on the Reba

On one of the commuting threads the other day there was a spat over v-brakes vs discs on a commuter. Someone mentioned a drum brake, out of weather, not susceptible to wet rims, doesn't wear out rims. That might make a nice design exercise.

Did like the idea of integral lights but I'd start with a seatpost or saddle with built in LEDs – much more important than front facing lights.

I think it's very difficult to generalise about road position. There's parts of my commute where I'm as far left as possible and parts where I'll take more share of the road. I'll move around to avoid poor road surfaces and will happily overtake on the inside or outside of traffic depending on where the gaps are. If I'm moving at the same speed as traffic I'll ride anywhere on the road I want.

The hazard of overtaking or undertaking stationary traffic is often peds crossing the road between vehicles without looking. The other big hazard is drivers being courteous and leaving gaps for people to pull in or out of junctions- that needs a combination of good observation and occasionally spider sense.

Only 1 person seemed to have 'fessed up to having fun. For me the urban part of my commute is 'playing with the cars'

The horizontal dropouts are the one thing I'd change about the roadrat. Not used an eccentric BB or (unfortunately) the Ibis Tranny solution but horizontal slots seem a 'messy' way of taking up the slack and (only speaking for myself) make getting the wheel out a PITA

Didn't he start off on that breakfast prog RI:SE?

I remember reading at the time that the title included the most misused colon since one of Michael Barrymore's pool parties. Poor taste but it stuck with me!
