4 – though the 3Gs has got a degree of retro charm. If that's your thing I've got an old skool Nokia you may like?

On occasion I've thought about getting one of these

a yachties radar reflector – tying it to my back and going for a brisk ride around a few speed cameras… Just in the name of science

That is a lovely thing! I'm in two minds on the dropouts but the rest of it looks 'right'. Looks like I'm going to have to look at the Salsa site and see what proper 26" geared frames they do

We bought Rothan for our little lad and he's got on well with it. Had proud dad moment when he was whizzing about on it and a couple of friends' older kids were more wobbly after having gone the pedals and stabilisers route. Think he'll pick up the pedalling easy enough and his balance is great

I think there must be regional differences. Various firms sent us letters and brochures on spec, as a result of us having appeared on the councils planning applications list. Had a lot of interest, everyone contacted visited us and quoted. We're in Staffordshire

Doesn't seem to have been widely appreciated that public sector cuts have a big impact on private sector. Hate to think about impact of say stopping Building Schools for the Future on building trade and suppliers when multiplier effect is taken into account.

I don't really do LBS's. Having said that staff attitude will make a real or Internet bike shop a no visit zone for me.

Nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Seems overly dramatic. I reckon, to draw from my misspent youth, that by now the OP is Mostly 'armless

Is he back yet? Wonder who he works for? I've got in mind someone like Marsellus Wallace from Pulp Fiction. Hope the OP isn't out on the pull tonight!

I had a pair and they contributed towards 2 of the most miserable rides I've ever had. Filled with water dripping down my legs and then stayed wet. Not sure about the wetsuit comment. Mine just kept my feet in cold water for a couple of hours. Wouldn't use them again

Moveable floor in boot is a false floor which gives a separate compartment about 5 inches deep below the actuall boot. Not big enough for a body but big enough for about 2000 fags and a big bag of charlie! I use mine for keeping all of that crap in that is normally in your boot in, blanket, air compressor, etc, so boot is usually empty. You can take the false floor out to just give a single bigger boot

I've got a 1.9 tdi SE Golf Plus. Wouldn't say it's my dream car but it came for the right price and has been pretty good. Decent amount of room inside and good economy – high 40s mpg

Only problem I've had has been the fairly well known ABS/ESP pump issue which I got fixed within the 3 year warranty. Not sure how new model compares – not had a good look at facelifted one

The other possibility is another leftfield one – just leave your saddle where it is and stop pssing about with it?

_Tom_ – I can only imagine that either you are that one mountain biker who never stops for a drink/rest/to talk bollocks/something to eat/have a look at a sketchy bit and need to press on regardless or you have an issue with your Chalfonts and need to keep moving your seat to get comfy.

Just seems like another expensive gimmick to separate people from their cash.

I think it might just be me but all these contraptions seem to be solutions looking for a problem. If you are doing some kind of riding that means you need to adjust your seat height then here's a Viz TopTip. Get off your bike open the quick release and drop your saddle. Once you're done then stop and put it back to where it was before.

I've also gone from 3G to 4. Only realise how slow 3G was now the 4 is much faster. Battery life was also much worse on the 3G though it was 18 months old. Sell a kidney and buy a 4!

I'm with inkster. Thomson stem and some big wide Salsa bars. Work fine, no need to change 'em. Just thinking if I had to replace stem and bars it would never even cross my mind to go O/S – just not something that's on my radar.

I think the yanks have dropped a bit of a cod with this one. No company can guarantee there won't be an accident and no company is strong enough to go up against the US govt. The risk/reward of deepwater drilling in GOM has changed pretty profoundly. The difficulty is the yanks and the rest of the world still want the oil

Not sure what the distinction is between good to go and any other type of batteries but Tesco are selling off packs of single use 8 AA batteries for 18p at the moment.

Ian. Understand the point about fastest car and safety – I suppose something would need to happen in the rules to introduce some overtaking – restrict aerodynamics in some way?

Agreed, great episode. Toureg and Veyron were awesome. Cruise and Diaz were great – can only assume they're fans? Senna piece was fabulous too and underlines that something has gone wrong with current state of F1

Just watching the Senna piece on Top Gear. Where did F1 go wrong? Cars too good? Electronics, aerodynamics. Could they undo some of this stuff to make the racing interesting again?

I'm bemused why anyone watches F1. I enjoy Moto GP, which has some real characters and some real racing and there's overtaking. Educate me on the appeal of F1?

Are you in the North West Derek? I'm up in Lancaster tomorrow and can make sure I come up with a full bladder if that would help the region?

Not sure what qualifies as special? I'm happy with a flat bar S/S roadrat. Added full length SKS guards, SLX discs. There are rack mounts but I prefer to carry a rucksack.
