Apart from the HD stuff, are there any reasons not to go for Virgin package? My father in law has been looking at it to save money instead of Sky. Does it offer all or most of the channels he gets free on his sky?

I reported this to Office of Fair Trading. Didn’t even get an acknowledgement. I personally think that it’s a bit naughty

Blanket statement – no bike with suspension can be aesthetically pleasing.

I once read an article describing some problem with a sewerage system near Banbury – raw sewage was being discharged into a stream/river. The floating turds were described by the rather upset locals as ‘Banbury Trout’. Don’t know why that has stuck with me!

If you see Banbury Trout on the menu anywhere you may want to avoid it!

Just makes me smile and there’s NOTHING like riding a Chopper inappropriately! Overtaking people on regular bikes, going fast down hill and riding pssed spring to mind!

I’d imagine you are clamping the steerer enough for it to be safe but I’d not ride a bike like that – just knowing it was like that would gnaw (fanks Stoner!) away at my soul – swap the stem

Favourite recommendations seem to be the Islabikes[/url]. Expensive (IMHO) but people seem to rate them

    Go for the 700c option.

I want something decent for no more than £250. Current fork prices are taking the ps. I don’t mind people discussing my bike and saying you could have bought a car for that but when they’re saying it about just the fork that’s getting a bit much!

Crank extractor assuming you don’t want to knacker anything. If you don’t care then take out the Allen bolts and ride it around a bit inc. standing on pedals and they’ll probably loosen enough to get off.

“sus forks really expensive at the moment. “

I noticed that too – was fancying some Revelations but they seem to be double the price they were last year !

Sheldon Brown is often refered to on here but in this case I think we need to refer to the great Jarvis Cocker for guidance:-

I’ve just been through the same process deciding what to put on my Roadrat. LX V-brakes which came on it were ok but I did get through a frightening amount of brake block on my commutes in when the weather was wet. So far I’ve gone for an intermediate solution of a BB7 on the front and left the LX V-brake on the back. Will probably stick a BB7 on the back in the fullness of time but will have to have a good look at how it will fit around my mudguards.

Wish we’d had this thread when I was doing mine. Scratched my head a bit with the Avid mount before turning it upside down – can’t understand how you managed to fit the caliper and have it touch the disk at all with the mount right way up? Don’t understand why you needed to shim out the caliper? Didn’t need to shim the BB7 – just used the regular tri-align and the slack in the ISO mount adapter

I’ve recently started doing some running and have found that I’m surprisingly good at it and have pretty reasonable stamina. I think cycling a reasonable amount gives you a solid CV base for othersports such as running. Problem I’m having is a difficulty in running with people who ‘jog’. I generally go forward, some people I run with use shorter steps and are much more up and down. Anyone else find this?

Like the Pace but second the chain tensioner point.

Friends don’t let friends buy chain tensioners

If you are making that much effort/throwing that amount of money at it get EBB kit or that hub with adjustment built in

I’m looking forward to price drops due to the price of steel and shipping costs falling or were those excuses for the rises just b0llocks? There’s also going to come a point where the Market will decide that prices need to come down to seperate people from their cash

I went through a similar thought process a couple of months ago and eventually I got some Endura(?) bearings from BETD LINKY

put in and they’ve been fine up to now

Are they any use to you if you cut them down to get ride of the split? Otherwise I’d bin them as a precaution and buy new bars

What size forks/wheels? Cotic roadhog seem good but not sure how they’d work with 26″ wheels

Gave the bike a bit of love today and found scoring on my steerer tube. Cotic Soul with Magura Phaons.

So what is the consensus – is the scoring something to worry about – stress razors leading to a risk of the bars falling off or not?

I’m not going to suggest that flat bar bike is faster in traffic but rapidly coming to the conclusion it is more fun and braking for one thing is easier with flat bar mtn bike brakes than on the hoods of roadbrakes.

I’ve got a road rat single speed which I commute 12.5 miles each way to work on. Occasionally use geared Giant OCR with drop bars and was surprised how little difference in journey time there was!

Aside from me having a general dislike of these posters and IMHO the feelings they attempt to foster, the fact that they’ve spent money on siting one along my commute between Lichfield and Walsall seems questionable. Not sure we are blessed with ‘high value targets’!

I’ve studied the tights on the Assos site in some detail. I’ve no idea of the comfort, merits or value for money of them but the girl wearing them and covering her nips makes me go a bit ‘funny’

Got a medium/long roadrat with flat bars. Bought from Cotic as a complete bike. Came singlespeed and running it that way for my 25 mile round trip commute.
