Can't comment on the provenance of Pergo vs own brand stuff but we got a deal on some stuff and it's been great. We've also got a toddler and have had same experience as above. Also toy cars go really well on it! Worst stuff I ever had was Focus own brand stuff. Laid a third of a floor before taking it back up and returning it to shop for refund. Manager didn't even argue – think he knew it was crap.

I was thinking about this the other day. Problem is that the garage is where you store tools as well as bikes

I had a championship White Integra Type-r. Fabulous car, back seats went down and bike dropped straight in – oh and when it came on cam at 5700 rpm it howled like a banshee. Looked great in White, pretty average in red or black

    gchq building

    st pauls cathedral

    that barge lift in Scotland

    Newcastle to Gateshead footbridge

I once read something by Mark Thomas (I think) who said that if the richest people in the world just paid their taxes properly ie not in the Netherlands (I'm looking at you Bono) or some other convenient tax haven then there would be no need for charity appeals. Not sure whether that's true or not but I reckon there's something in it

Had garage done 5 years or so ago. 1.5 car length garage and flat 'balcony' along front of house. Think it was about £1500. Double cost of felt at the time but wouldn't consider anything else if had a flat roof that was leaking

Google for Flat Roof Company. Excellent stuff and 30 or 40 yr guarantee. Got it on my garage roof

See which way everyone else is pointing their aerial and do that. No need for signal meter.

My budget option at the moment is to stick films on iPhone and play them through telly using that. Quality leaves a bit to be desired but adequate until I sort out a better solution

A mate of mine has (I think) got Yet Another Music Jukebox software running on his popcorn hour – looks great. DVD coverart etc – I'm just not sure how much faff and being anal is required to get it to look like that

I'm mulling over the same problem. Quite interested in a popcorn hour box. Hisense box also looks interesting. My other thought is that the new Humax HD Freeview box is supposed to stream over wifi so I might wait to see that – again will be pricey though

Best example of e-govt yet for me. Presumably cheaper to administer and better service for me. Standing in post offices sucks ass

Councils are bad at understanding demand and differentiating between short and long term trend. My guess would be that this is a short term trend driven by current economic climate which will probably disappear as economy picks up. Would be pretty easy to predict a situation where you've made 10 allotments available, only 2 get properly used long term and you've lost the use of a decent chunk of land and those 2 allotments end up costing the C Tax payer a couple of grand a year

Ran one for 6 years and put ~70k trouble free miles on it. Quality interior wears well, tdi engine is great, aluminium body so no rust. Accelerates better than it has a right to due to low weight. Both back seats come out giving you enough room for two bikes easily. Fabulous economy ~60mpg. Low tax £35 a year

I had a few issues after 60k mile cambelt change by a cowboy garage but got sorted. Changed front disks and drop links. Can't recall that much else. If you find s good one it is very economical motoring.

There's a knack to changing headlight bulbs without dismantling bumper which I learned using missus' compact mirror to see what I was doing.

After the flight into the public sector last year for job security, I'm expecting a flow the other way as private sector starts to pick up and public sector gets stuck with paying for the banking bailout through pay freezes/ cuts and job losses. Is there another option for the OP to improve work life balance in private sector? Different company, location, role in same company. When they are talking about cuts in NHS and Police before an election then you know it's not going to be any better afterwards

Only advice I can give is look before you leap. I switched from private sector – oil industry with 36-48 hr days (start job, keep working til you finish) and have now done various flavours of public sector.

You don't say which bit of public sector you are moving into and it's a big place with plenty of variation – civil service, nhs, local authority etc etc. I work for a metropolitan council and we're a loose conglomeration of at least 100 'small businesses'

Also in my experience the 'perks' are disappearing fast. Job security – 2000 redundancies at Birmingham city council, good pension – not for much longer if you believe the papers, steady salary – pay freeze this year with 3% inflation and single status may take a chunk, training – we're on no non-essential spend, it's been decided training is non essential.

Work life balance can be better but might be worth asking the questions above?

If you're potential pro then I'd imagine that mountain biking would actually be detrimental to your road biking as would probably give you upper body muscle mass that is just extra mass to move if you're a roadie. If you're just a keen roadie rather than taking part in this year's TdF then I'd say any time on any bike is making you fitter

I bought some more Candys from CRC as I wanted some cleats and it was only a couple of quid more to buy pedals and cleats.

If you check the stock levels you'll find you've experienced the CRC version of being Rick Rolled !

In the car industry and never in the cycle trade they have something called bait and switch

EDIT – If they are coming back in then I take back what I said. Good price for a very nice frame
