Living near Cambridge, I was wondering where all these mountain bike trails are.  Or even a hill.  Looking at the article I saw this:

One of the best places to go mountain biking in Cambridge is Wandlebury Country Park. The 13.4 km circular trail is moderately challenging and takes three hours and 11 minutes to complete. It’s great for hiking, mountain biking, and road biking. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime.

Looking at the Wandlebury Country Park website I see that “Cycling is not allowed in the park”.  Excellent research there…

    Take a look at https://www.swrve.co.uk/#

They do jeans and trousers in variety of sizes.  They are a bit cycling specific, but I find them great all round.  I wear the black trousers for work, as I cycle commute about 5 miles they are really good and don’t wear out quickly.  I also have their jeans, which I rarely cycle in, but just wear in general because they fit me well.

UniFi is another option. Similar to the Hikvision above, but almost certainly more expensive… You need the NVR and cameras, plus a PoE switch. The cameras are PoE powered, so you need to wire them in. UniFi do good wifi APs, so consider if you want to upgrade your whole network switch and APs while you’re at it.
I use UniFi, and it is very good hardware, let down ever so slightly by slightly bugger firmware. Always check the forums before a software upgrade 😉

Celestion SL12si speakers. Rare things, and they are great!
Musical Fidielity A1001. I’ve recapped it, a monster and still going strong.
Meridian 506. Still going, not sure the laser is in the best condition anymore 🙁
Bunch of other stuff, all at least 25 years old.
It’s mostly all been bought second hand.

That link z1ppy sent have some good vertical mice in stock. I find they helped me a lot!
I also learnt to use the mouse left handed many years ago, despite being strongly right handed. I was doing a lot of CAD work at the time and was getting trouble, so decided to try left handed. It only took 1 week to master!
I use both right and left handed vertical mice now. Both plugged in, just depends which I feel like using. At work it’s usually left handed, partly just to mess with colleagues. I also use a microsoft ergonomic keyboard, that also messes with visiting colleagues too 😉

I used to always wear disposable contacts when riding, but I found you do need some sort of sports glasses over the top when riding. I’ve hack mud get in, and I’ve even had a lens come out due to some strong winds and my eyes watering. Fitting a spare lens trailside is a bit risky… They just weren’t a perfect solution.
Since getting some Oakley Transition prescription flak jackets I’ve rarely bothered with contact lenses. I’m just much happier wearing glasses. You do have to be careful with the lenses so as not to scratch them, but with care mine have lasted years. Oakleys are rather expensive, but there are a fair number of much cheaper options these days.

    Swrve jeans
I find them good. A few styles depending on how large your thighs are.

Still using 2002 MXRs. Coil sprung, not sophisticated, but they still work. Just about, think bushings are probably near their end again, and not sure the stanchions have too much life left… Pity. Hopefully there will be something on the market we can still buy in the future when it comes to need to replace them!

I have an orangebox Do at home. I find it good, and was not too expensive second hand, not much over 100.
We had a session of trying out a selection of office chairs at work a year ago, and they ended up buying 2 different brands, because there was strong preference for these 2 brands out of all the ones we tried. I liked the orangebox, but I forget the other brand that was bought, though I do remember not getting on with it. It did show that you really need to try them for yourself, there were some quite strong opinions on what people were happy to sit on.

I’ve really liked the Swrve DWR trousers.  Not cheap (similar to the Keela above) but look like normal smart trousers and are good for cycling and wear well.  They are my commute and work trousers.  You didn’t say how long a commute you were talking about, but for a short commute where you don’t need to get changed, I like these.  My commute is only 6 miles each way…

I saw mention of Cottenham and couldn’t resist commenting as we live there these days.  Cottenham is a good place to live, better than it was a decade ago…  Most villages to the north and east of Cambridge seem to have a travellers site, and it’s mostly ok.

Bar Hill isn’t great, and with the A14 works at the moment it isn’t much fun to get to either.  Longstanton has a lot of building work going on there for the next few years as they build Northstowe…

As has been said, North is much cheaper and many places are nice to live; South much more expensive.  West is quite nice, but many of the “new” villages seemed souless, and the older ones were more expensive.  Lots of people I work with live in the giant housing estate that is Cambourne, but we weren’t keen…  East seemed a bit lighter on housing and fairly expensive too.  If you live North, the A10 is the main commute route, and is very very busy at rush hour.  Almost no-one cycle commutes along it…  If you are tempted to live North, living on or near the busway makes cycle commuting much less stressful!

Yes, all my mtbs are now old school.  Don’t want one of these new slack things, wouldn’t ride very well where I live these days…

I’d still like to be riding my 2002 Rocky Mountain Blizzard, but the frame has a crack in the seat tube bottom bracket weld.  Should get it fixed really…  Replaced it with a Mk2 Soul, which does ride a bit nicer.

Couple of years ago I spent the year riding round Swindon on my old EBB Inbred!  That was a fun year of riding 🙂

I’ve had this type of accident before…  Pulls out, then sees you in the rear view mirror and stops.  It was a man in my case.  Luckily there were witnesses, who couldn’t believe what had happened and gave they guy a hard time .  Unluckily the frame was bent, but that wasn’t immediately obvious, and I’d managed to slow down quite a bit too…

Hope you and the bike are fine!

I spent a year working in Swindon a couple of years ago.  Lodged in places near the centre, and had a good time cycling locally all year.  As said, it’s probably a good idea to rent somewhere in the middle of Swindon for 6 months while you figure out where you really want to live, partly as Swindon is fairly cheap for housing.

I met some really good people from Swindon MTB enthusiasts http://swindonmtbenthusiasts.co.uk and MB Swindon http://www.mbswindon.co.uk if you are interested in riding with some groups, and was riding most evenings during the week.

My parents did 4 months in Conn. when I was 4.  Came back with a good accent, and was the coolest boy in the village school, until it wore off 😉  Never been cool since…

I’ve also done a 6 month secondment in Texas when I was young free and single.  Had a great time, but I wouldn’t want to live there permanently.  Friendship with locals seemed to have so many barriers, that I didn’t really understand while I was there.  One US colleague had spent a year or so in the UK on secondment previously, and he really helped make my time there good fun!

    I say go for it!

The original deposit was 27.6% of the total, so you could assume each had equity of 13.8% at the start.  For the remainder of the time one has contributed 95%, the other 5%.  If you were to share all the risk, then the split could be 18.8% and 81.2%.

PP’s reply is likely to be the least worst option…

Thanks for the Flyte PSA from CRC. Ordered one to replace my rather worn out 6 year old one with which I’ve been very happy with.

We have DJ1s on our Cannondale tandem. I think the 20mm axle is worth it, otherwise there’s not much to choose between them. Our tandem came with a rigid QR fork, which was OK actually. It handled nicely, and the slackening off with the DJ1 is noticable, but doesn’t really affect the handling all that much. If you change to a 20mm axle fork, does that mean a new front wheel? Maybe that would help you decide.

Celestion SL12Si which are still really rather good, but need lots of power. I’ve had them 20 years, and they were a good few years old when I bought them! Also have a REL Stygian sub, which fills the bass out a little. Well it did until the amp failed, still on the list of things to fix.

I have prescription Oakleys (clear transitions and sunglasses), they’ve almost become my every day glasses as I commute by bike and I don’t wear glasses in front of the computer. I am careful with them on the mtb though. £100-150 would be what I’d expect judging from adverts I’ve seen for cheaper direct glazed sunglasses.
I can’t get on with inserts, I always find my eyelashes touch them in addition to all the other problems listed above…

It’s unlikely to be leaking into the hot water cylinder as you say the system get’s air into it, and that won’t be possible if the water coil is leaking.

It could be the heat exchanger leaking, which will be lost as steam or flow down the condensate drain. Can you collect from the condensate drain over a period of time when the boiler isn’t running?
Does the system leak at the same rate if the system is running or if it is all turned off? If it leaks noticeably faster running, that could suggest the heat exchanger…

Running pipes in concrete floors can be ok, but they need to be wrapper. If not they will develop pin holes over time, and leaks will be very hard to spot until the leak is very bad. Can you fit a couple of valves to completely isolate the downstairs heating loop? If so, that can confirm if it’s that loop that is leaking, or not.

The leak is enough that I would expect to notice it, and that it wouldn’t just be masked by evaporation when it’s running. I’d guess at the boiler or in the concrete floor. When is the boiler service due? They should check the heat exchanger…

    Good luck!

As other posters have said, building strength and muscle is best done with weights. Rowing will build some strength in time…

Your resistance seems set far too high. What stroke rate are you rowing at? I’d recommend about 20spm given your comments, but at a lower resistance. With the resistance at 8 and at the steady pace you describe, I’d expect your stroke rate to be quite low, something like 16spm; much higher and I question your technique.
The C2 machines measure average power and translates that to pace; the “resistance” setting affects the flywheel drag. A higher drag slows your pull down and can be good for specific strength training on the rower, but you need to be very sure your technique is good if you do this.

At a steady pace, a rate around 20spm is sensible to build strength and pace, and that should be with the machine set somewhere around 4. To sprint, just up the stoke rate 😉

I’m doing quite a bit of rowing machine stuff at the moment to try and compensate for too much time spent at a desk and on a bike… I’m not big and muscly, so I’m quite slow on the rower, but I do find it much easier to put in a consistent effort at around my anaerobic threshold, so it’s definitely helping my CV and is building a little strength. As a comparison I’m mostly rowing 10k at about 2.05 pace and 20 to 22spm, with the machine drag factor at around 110 (about low 4 on the machine). Some days I do intervals of at least 10 x 500m/1min rest, but I don’t seem to manage much below 1.55 pace for all of these! As I said, I’m quite slow…

I do 110miles a day. No fun at all. I now have trapped nerves in both my arms from all the driving, and I've only been doing it for 6 months so far, and I'm lift sharing! Have ended up using B roads most of the way to avoid the A14, which is so clogged up as to be useless… Takes about 1.5 hours each way.
We're trying to move closer, but just can't sell our house in this fekked up market 🙁 I used to cycle the 3 miles to my old job, but redundancy struck. Now I'm desperate to move within about 10 miles so I can get cycling again, and get fit again…
    Long commutes are rubbish!

700x38c Schwalbe Marathons. I think 2 punctures in 3000 road and cycle track miles so far, and probably half the life left. I had been running Conti Top Touring 700x32c before, but I kept dinging the rims and getting the odd pinch flat as well as quite a few other punctures. For me I ride my commute bike too much like my mtb, so I found I needed wide tyres…
