    Question,

How can you tell if a sales person is lying?

    Answer,

    Their lips are moving.

In my experience the vast majority of sales people will say what they need to say to close the deal, probably because most of their wages are commission based and the sales manager is threatening them with the boot unless they hit target.

    Road race tonight so bikes been cleaned / fettled and it’s forecast to start pissing down at 6, the skies are darkening and I’ve just broken my glasses while hamfistidly changing the lenses, I predict one of the following;

    1. Crash due to general slipperyness.
    2. Crash due to zero visibility.
    3. A win because no bugger else turns up (hopefully)
    4. Get dropped on lap 5.

Welsh 1000 meter peaks race on Sat so more rain and cloud, only hope is some sun on Sundays club run, it’s not much to ask is it.

I’ve put my entry in and 1st time CX for me as I’ve done the fell race twice, really hoping this might be a little bit easier but I doubt it.
    Fingers crossed I’m accepted.

    Hi Ton,
I’ve never met you or communicated with you before but can really understand how the thought of not being able to do something that you love can seem overwhelming.

Try getting in touch with this guy in the forum post below, I realise you and him might have very different issues but nothing ventured Eh

My Two penneth worth as funkynick says is to get off road if at all possible, I also find that aches and pains are reduced if I start the run at a very slow jog and slowly speed up as your body joints etc warm up.
You get to know what aches and pains you can run through and they dissapear but if you feel like it’s a serious pain stop straight away.

As you said warm down properly.

And as everyone else says slowly slowly catchy monkey.

Once you’ve done the half marathon look for some trail runs to do, quite often organised by the LDWA but most of them allow runners as well, can’t beat a long run along a gloopy footpath to improve your fitmess

    and enjoy it

It was 5 degrees in Aviemore at 21:00 and it’s forecast to be 10 degrees on Saturday, even if it doesn’t get that warm it’s a lot warmer than of late so I’m expecting a mudbath but with the odd ice patch to catch you out as the ground will still be cold. Oh and heavy rain for Saturday.
    Deep joy

looks like it may be entertaining getting campervans up the fire road then?
Thanks for all the conditions reports epicyclo, can you tell how thick the ice is on the fire road, I’m wondering if it will melt completly with the forecast rise in temp?

Hi Sorry for the hijack but I’m in need of doing the same thing as dmiller, would a lintel like this be sufficient or could you recommend another?
I dont think I have enough courses to leave 3 courses of bricks above the opening so am I correct in thinking that putting lintels in is my only option?
I’m planning on have a wood floor installed so would like to sort out access sooner rather than later.

    Hi Andrew,
You are right there isn’t a great deal and what there is will be quite sticky and muddy now, do you have a road bike? as there are some great quiet roads within 20 mins ride up on the wolds.
If you’re looking for a bit more info I think these guys do a bit locally,

In Dublin this week training engineers on fire detection systems, last day tomorrow so a couple of pints tomorrow night and the ferry back Friday AM, hoping it’s a hell of a lot smoother crossing than Mondays outward trip, felt very green and seemed to be one of the few that managed to keep my meal down.

Looking forward to the weekend and working from home next week after 4 away weeks.Cross bike bought on Ebay this week should be delivered next week, so need to sort out a licence and some races.

I was thinking the horse box looked quite comfy, I remember riding past and looking in and being jealous of their heaters and what looked like a two seeter settee.

Had a great weekend with very contrasting weather between Sat and Sun caught a little sunburn on Sat and drenched on Sunday, we were never going to be placed very high this time as other comitments and injury niggles prevented any sort of training schedule so Saturday was mainly a brisk walk but with the odd bit of jogging! Got a blister on my heel within an hour or so of starting which just got worse over the weekend but the rain and wind took my mind of it on Sunday, were strangley enough we were running faster and longer I think my fell shoes work better when soaked through.
Lovely overnight camp but felt sorry for those with a later start who arrived to find no beer left, our day two start was straight up the side of Sledale fell and I know day two starts typically send you up something steep to get you warmed up but that was V steep.
Thankfuly the niggles I have been having with my Achillies didnt play up so I need to get some traiining done ready for the RAB as a solo.
Well done Captain on getting into the chasing start did you manage to stay ahead of everyone behind you or overtake other teams?

    Captain,
decided the OMM was too far to go this year and to be honest it's not really going to be that much of a Mountain marathon down that way, much like last year in the Elan valley where it all seemed a bit of a procession. Have you thought about the RAB? I did that last year as a solo but with mates running in pairs as well and had a great time, no where near the size of the OMM, less trains of people distracting you from your route. I would heartily recommend it.
Camelback/Platypus bladder jobby for us as well I dont think these couple of days of showers will have done anything to the water levels and yes plenty of Nuun tablets to stop the chaos caused when your legs cramps up in a small tent with two guys in it plus a brew on the stove! Never get any sympathy off my mate when that happens.

Gin slings at sunset eh there's an idea.

Yep me and my mate are in Kirkfell, I was hoping for cloudy / poor visibility as we haven't done a great deal of training and will be dropping places like mad when all the fit lads just have to run and the nav is easy.
Looks like we will have to carry a lot more water than usual as well, still beer at midcamp 😀
Have a great weekend and dont forget your suncream.

Cheers Stuart making sense now, Ive had a high roller on the rear for a while, will look at putting it on the front and trying something faster on the rear.

Yeah but that would be true of all tyres, is there something inparticular to the high rollers tread pattern/compound etc that accentuates the resistance to the point that people are commenting about it being slow on the rear?

Hi I can understand why some tyres roll better than others but can someone explain why the high roller is slow on the rear and not on the front?

    Cheers
