Had a pair for 3 months or so now and they’ve seen plenty of use, still true and no flex/rubbing when out the saddle 80kg rider, can’t go far wrong for the money.
Freehub does sound a little noisy but nothing annoying, and a reminder to keep peddling.

I have just got a pair of these for the winter bike, and tbh if they only last a season I’ll be happy, but I suspect with a bit of tlc they’ll be ok for 3ish depending on my mileage.

I’ve done it plenty of times before races, it saves drying out a tent as well as cleaning bikes etc if there’s not much time left on a Sunday.

Insignia estate gives just enough room for two 6 footers, crack the windows and if you don’t want to be awake early in the summer then get a pair of these,

Roll mat and a sleeping bag and you’re good to go.

A bit gloopy sums it up about right! I was there on Sunday and managed to finish in 8th just ahead of Benji. Had a very quick chat to someone who came to grief on the tight turn in front of sports centre, was that you dales rider? I was in light blue VC Beverley kit.

Last one of the series tonight which is a shame but the bike needs some TLC after a few races, brake blocks, jockey wheels etc etc.

Cross at Temple Newsam on Sunday, looking forwards to 45 mins of threshold then a bacon buttie and a cuppa.

Got my entry in, hoping for better things this year after knackering the rear mech coming of Whernside, a pitiful excuse in reality.

Must do more training getting up very steep stuff with a bike on my shoulder in gale force winds and lashing rain.

130 miles on the road bike with 2 cafe stops plus a pub stop near the end, two pints that didn’t touch the sides 🙂 Glorious weather.

I try and stay away from road running and the pain it gives me so long and off road is my thing, results last year were,

9:41 Lakeland 50 (want to go sub 9 this year)
4:12 3 peaks fell race (sub 4hr this year)23.3 miles
    4:13 Edale Skyline 21.5 miles
8:33 Tour De Helvellyn 38 miles

Gonna beat all those times this year 🙂

Wishing you the best of luck.

Yep that was him, rucksack on and topless at the finish!

Good effort for any of the younger riders turning out on a very wet and cold day.

I also had Look North interviewing me straight after the finish…not sure whether I actually strung anything coherent together

Great fun, really enjoyed that and after the sticky mud at Bingley a few weeks ago todays didn’t seem too bad, I managed to ride the cobbles 3 times and was nearly sick at the top each time.
My freehub gave up 3/4 of the way through the last lap so a bit of pushing and running, no idea where I came but I beat my club mate for the 1st time this season so going to celebrate with a chippy tea 🙂

Does anyone know who the guy on the fat bike was? I was wondering whether he was doing some Strathpuffer training?

I use one for Mountain Marathons and for one 1 night were we’re looking to save as much weight as possible then the’re great.
However I wouldn’t want to use one for anything other than a race scenario.

Pick your camping spot carefully avoiding thistles n sharp things, take spare balloons and blow up a spare in case of 1 popping during the night.

1 plus is that the faff involved in blowing the balloons up with the supplied inflator warms you up and provides low level amusement 🙂

No they’re alive and well and making molehills where there wasn’t any a couple of days ago and they’re frozen hard…a bloody trip hazard as I found out on tonights run, ended up laid in very cold wet /mud laughing to myself.

Fair play to you Wool but it just seemed so windy that it would only add to the problems that I was suffering with the bike blowing all over the place.

Struggled all day, bad pains in achillies / calves on Simon Fell, felt like jacking there.

Whernside was brutal and brought on knee pain trying to run instead of riding, crossing the 2nd stream at the bottom when the rear mech took a dive into the spokes, luckily going slowly enough not to break any pulled it free but that only left me 2 gears luckily easy ones.

P-Y-G was orrible saw a young lad coming down at breakneck speed when he lost it big style…looked like a Moto GP riding going high side I though he was going to clear the stone wall!

Top of P-Y-G was hideous weather stinging rain and very high winds, the puddle at the bottom covered my wheels completely then submerged the bottom bearing of the headset before washing my top tube, more a drowning hazard than a puddle.

    5hr 11mins 310th

Should’ve done better 1st time though.
s’posed to be cross racing in Scunthorpe this Thursday…

Oh and people with 80mm deep section wheels what were you thinking, it must have been like carrying a kite up there?

I’m camping on site but most likely the tent will stay in the car and I’ll sleep in the car after a pint or two in the pub.

I’m considering ditching the SPD’s and going for fell shoes with toe clips? But not really sure so it’s more indecision and doubt.
Sunny day in East Yorks today!

Well did a cross race on Sunday and my last hill running session was last night, so rest up now till Sunday!

The weathers looking like it’s going to be wet, windy and not very warm is anyone else as worried/nervous/excited as me?

I’ve gone for Landcruisers heavy as the PPP CX forum opinion seems to be 8 out of 10 riders prefer em.
I’m 80 kg and will put about 80 psi in but I’m heading up to the Dales on Saturday to experiment with tyre pressures, foam matting etc.

Inspiring stuff, next time I’m thinking about grumbling over the state of the roads weather etc I’ll try and count myself very very lucky

Just seen the video, and not quite so enthusiastic now… I’d like to see how quickly he can stop under control and if the roads are anything like ours round your way I’d be very wary of him swerving to avoid potholes with them tiny wheels, so the rest of the group are going to have to be pretty good at pointing and calling them out.

When do you reckon they will do the mtb,29er and BMX versions?

Tell him he needs to stay at the back until you as ride leader are satisfied he can hold a line, brake at the same rate and generally be safe around the other bikes and them around him, new riders about and a novel cycle could lead to distractions etc.

Googling suggests that cruising speed is 15mph which would prob match other new riders.

How long has he been riding one? 40 miles on one of them looks tough, Kudos to him if he performs on it.

Let us know the outcome and good luck with the ride in general.

Broke my collar bone last Friday so no riding for a few weeks for me, getting fed up of it now so hoping I can get on the turbo by the middle / end of next week.

Well I’ve just made it a whole lot harder for myself by going over the bars and breaking my collar bone last night, at least it’s my left shoulder and I carry the bike on the right!

Anyone got any advice on reducing healing time for a bust clavicle?

@Sancho regards starting line up and positioning, I did the fell race in 4hr 12min this year and was hoping to do a sub 4hr for the CX so where do you reckon I should be in the pack at the beginning? 1st 25% of the field?

Plenty of road riding for me, the cross bikes built up but with slick tyres and a small cassette at the moment, Ultra run next weekend which I hope to get through with no niggling injuries then some trips over to the Dales with the bike now the weathers brilliant.

Question for experienced PPPcx riders, footwear? are mtb spds which is my usual choice for CX suitable I’m particularly concerned about the rocky terrain on Ingleborough.
My other thought is fell shoes with old fashioned strapped pedals.

Any tips for a 1st timer regarding footwear.

I put a few quid extra in for the rescue people on my entry, did the same for the Richmond 5 dales Sportive as well.
I think I’ll end up donating more in this way in the future as I don’t get into the usual collecting box / bucket areas these days due to other commitments and the cost of travel.

However off to the Lakes for a long weekend this week looking forward to riding / running in the rain and cloud and much Tea drinking.
