Fox launch aren’t bad in fairness. A little hefty if the weathers really warm but get the right fit and they are certainly comfortable.

I use mine for the car racing stuff, and its proved itself useful many of time with that, for both entertainment and performance values.

Must admit though i didn’t find it that thrilling on the bike, but thats just because i could never be assed with the faff of it all at the start of a ride. Although when i did snowdon in december it was great to muck around with.

Just ordered myself a laptop (using works laptop since i’ve owned the camera so had no access to vid editing software) so i’m looking forward to spending time playing. (I have lots of spare time as i’m working away in Finland for August.)

I’m sure i’ve just replied but it seems to have disappeared so apologies if this is repeating myself

Thanks for the replies, i’d just like to clear one or two things up though.

Riding mates/faster mates/ groups (that i know of):
I don’t have any mates that ride bikes (except for one, who’s starting from the same point as i am). I’ve ridden in the past with one work colleague who further demoralised me on the climbs, this did nothing to motivate me to try harder as you’d expect, instead it just put me off riding with them as i wasn’t enjoying my riding AT ALL(that is the whole point of riding after all). I lack confidence in my fitness which is why i don’t enjoy riding in a group of people i don’t know, maybe when i get to a stage where i can hold my own with average riders will i then take this avenue.

25k: is not considered a long ride. 25k +above of riding at intervals of race pace is, i have no endurance and probably lack base.

road bike: i have one, i just don’t use it as i find it dull. I’m prepared to mtfu and use it providing what i’m doing isn’t a waste of time and more importantly i can see some benefit. If theres other ways of doing the same (ie. with a mtb) i’d opt for that though as at least then i’d enjoy it a little more.

Motivation: I won’t argue with you, i sometimes lack it when i can’t see light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve trained in the past by just simply riding as hard as i could as often as i had time for but i was soon de motivated again when i turned up at a local XC race feeling good about myself and what i’d done so far to be simply shown up and proved that i needn’t have bothered doing any training.

Riding for a week: I’ve not tried it, however I’m comfortable training off the bike (non bike related activities) for 5-6 days a week on a regular occurrence so I can’t see it being too much of an issue.

and finally… skills: No i’m not in Andorra this weekend. Yes i have taken skills coaching in the past, and would again when i find something that i’d like a professional opinion on. No this post isn’t about improving my riding skills.

Thanks for your comments, i’ve no way disregarded any of them, i just thought maybe shedding some more light may avoid confusion

    Emmodd: thanks for the recommendation

crikey: Yeah, i realise that there are two aspects to this, both fitness and skill being separate. The skill part is a separate issue and i’ll take that as it comes another time, right now what i need to improve is fitness. I own a road bike but it doesn’t see the road much as in brutal honesty i find it mind numbingly boring so to ride it for fitness gains would require some form of training knowledge which i a. don’t have b. don’t have the dedicated learning time to pick up all by myself (this is where a little tailored help might be worth the investment providing i get results). I’d like to think myself as a realist, (with maybe a little ambition) so i know where my strengths and weakness mostly lie i just don’t know how to fix them in the best available spare time i have! (not much)

I lost mine from about Feb till June after a shitty disappointing XC race embarrassment. It happens just accept it and don’t worry about it, if your happy doing something else, do something else. Forcing it won’t work.

Depends on the route, and how steep said hills are. All good and well coasting down a ‘tour hill but it’d take forever if there was a hill with hardly any gradient.

Brilliant news!, I just hope people don’t start losing common sense on shared trails, as it will only make people that ‘dislike’ us bikers, dislike us even more.

The point was about drums being played adjacent to a kid’s bedroom. Gonefishin didn’t seem to think this was a problem. I disagree.

I see you’re point. I think whether it was a problem or not would entirely depend on a. the time of the day being played and b. the sleeping habits of the kid (i.e. young kid being asleep in daylight hours) as lets be fair, if the kid was 10 and the drums were being played at 3 in the afternoon, noise would balance either side of the wall.

My only point was that did Gonefishin need to actually go to the extent of stating all of that when he said its not inconsiderate to play in you’re own home or can common sense tell you all of that.

And sorry for the highjack, hope you sort out your OP issue for the better, personally not had that kind of experience, our neighbors are more the ‘nosey/go out they’re way to make life awkward for everyone else/complain about everything’ type to which most things just get ignored or better still, worsened.

There’s nothing inconsiderate about palying a musical instrument in your own home

There was no qualification in your statement regarding the time of day.

Did it actually need one? 😕 or are you just being stubborn about your point?

Get yer heels down! and maybe look at the positioning of brake levers too to make sure you’re not stretching for them. How slack is it compared to you’re old bike? could take some getting used to.

And at 5’9, don’t write off too smaller frame size either. I’m 5’10 1/2 (yes the half makes all the difference to us that are under 6′) And I ride a medium, and even then I’ve contemplated large frames.

Mindmap3 , you’ve got me thinking about a trip on Saturday myself now!

just looking into other options for the run, as in all honesty i’ve only tried the MBR, dunno whether to try the dragons back on my own or not…

I think they start off on the same first few posts anyway so i’ll guage it as i go!

If your there, and bump into a billy no mates on a mondraker, its not me.

If your reasonably fit, MBR. I had a similar time dilemma when the days were shorter, the guy in the bike shop there recommended mbr as his words were “Its the best fun you’ll have at this center” and i can only echo that it was bloody good fun.

I would imagine it would more likely come from people being robbed in broad daylight…

certainly seems more logical, I’d like to imagine it was the other though just for the novelty of it.

I heard once that the term ‘Daylight Robbery’ comes from the old window tax that was in place, people dodged taxes with secret windows, hence stealing daylight.

dunno how true this is though.
