that link above is the place to look – the main point is that anything directly rear of the house and not taking up more than 50% of the land is good to go

Permitted Development rules for detached outbuildings and Planning Permission for extensions / alterations to a dwelling are separate things……….and for either theres more to it that as stated

Try the Council; they may be able to help or they may not, but don’t buy anything assuming everything will be OK……..it very rarely is

One of my kids at about 4 or 5 years old told his mates I’d taken him out to get some ‘cock porn’……..or as I had to explain, ‘popcorn’ at the cinema

Apologies if I’ve missed it, but did McKinnon have any sort of comparable results (hopefully avoided the ”track record” pun) before starting racing as a woman?

Whilst I don’t imagine anyone would go through everything involved for a tinpot medal or two it would seem all that is stopping me (or many other middlemarkers) in Time Trials from winning the fastest woman prize is ‘self identifying’ as such…… although if I did I’d like to think I’d be a bit less of a bad winner than appears the case here.

No answers, but can’t see how equality at all costs can be good for anyone

I found Herbie Hancock’s Fat Albert Rotunda to be a particularly effective gateway drug to all that sort of thing.

wherever you’re thinking of, try the prospective commute at rush hour to get an idea of what it’ll be like; I once managed to get back from Worcester to St Ives ahead of Mrs R who got in her car at the same time in the centre of Cambridge……its one of those places where there are relatively few roads in / out for the number of people trying to do so….better to think in terms of time than distance

their love of a strike came good for us a couple of years ago on the way back to the Tunnel where they’d persuaded the peage booth staff to join them and we were simply waved through for free; sticking to Le Homme one car at a time…….

…..it was a pick-up from / drop-off at Limoges airport that set the whole thing going

OP – we have worked out a system over the last few years where I drive with all the bags & everything else for the holiday, leave a couple of days earlier, take my time and get a few hours riding in each day and then collect Mrs R and similarly aged kids to yours from Geneva (or convenient) airport on the way. That way, I get some peace & quiet whilst doing the miles and they get the ‘bonus’ of going on a plane on their holiday.

Two weeks later, we do it all backwards………

that one would also help your mate if he needed to get his travel papers renewed whilst in Iran……..

During the Islamic revolution of 1979, when the Shah was overthrown, the British embassy was not invaded like the American one (although Gholhak did shelter six US diplomats for the night, contrary to Ben Affleck’s version of events in Argo). Instead, with the kind of wit not normally associated with Islamic fundamentalists, the new regime renamed the road it stands on “Bobby Sands Street”, meaning its letterhead would be a memorial to the IRA hunger-striker.

you do do a lot worse than spend some time in Troyes, although you’ll be much more architecturally than WW2 occupied

chunnel, Alps, gite, leisurely drive down over a few days for me (with plenty of riding time each day) picking up / dropping off Mrs R & kids at Geneva for cheapish flights #paradise

alternatively, stick yourself in a french hospital after smearing yourself down a hillside when not as gnarrly-awssumz as you’d like to think you are and still be hearing about ruining the family holiday to this day!

our village monthly had a good typo a few years ago where they were appealing for whoever it was nailing dead cows they’d shot to the fenceposts near the Rec (or somesuch) to please stop it………followed the next month by a correction that it was crows

Planning officers are members of the royal town planning institute. It requires post graduate degree and experience in practice before you are eligible to join. The role and duty of the RTPI is set out in an act of Parliament.  Planning officers are bound by a code of conduct. You can report planning officers to the institute, if proven they will be struck off.  The list is public. The number of bad eggs is very small.  No one goes into being a planning officer motivated by money. They all want to make the world a better place for people like you OP.  Foolishly.

……..and as such, any bribe would also be required to be so large that the recipient didn’t need to work again; perhaps not that likely to secure a positive outcome for Mrs Goggins’ conservatory application or whatever it was that got the OP riled.

With many many years both as LPA Planning Officer and private developer behind me, I can honestly say it isn’t a problem; with one offer of a bottle of scotch and a free car wash all that spring to mind…………but Councillors and estate agents, that another story!

mission accomplished #WootWoot #GoMe……..but I guess the hard work is in keeping the lard at bay when it tries to sneak back on

if it helps anyone else, I’ve only really trained myself to stop grazing between meals. given I would chomp through a block of cheese in no time, I’m equating the 8.8kg lost to 25 x 350g blocks of cheese………which is probably what I would have eaten in the preceding 8/9 weeks if it wasn’t for you lot and the record keeping.

    good luck everyone

My favourites are those who don’t bother to clear their windows properly before setting off. Who needs to be able to see whilst driving anyway?

I always assumed those squinting through a tiny aperture in the icy windscreen are gynaecologists honing their skills on the way to work?

in case anyone needed it confirming; a birthday, only a short ride before mech-snap brought it to an end as exercise for the week and half term spent in Belgium (fries, mayo, beer, waffles etc) does not make for weight loss

thanks; still a bit grumpy with them after I ordered what I thought was the one I needed and then they wouldn’t accept return outside of 15 (or however many) days as I didn’t try to fit it until afterwards.

I’ll give them another go if only / best option

is anyone else actually coming to enjoy the constant feeling of what I can only assume is hunger?

as someone who works 12 steps away from my fridge full of cheese, I’m hoping I can train my brain to like the hunger pangs as much as it does lovely cheese.

    oh god I miss cheese……….
