The xd one will run the more expensive gx etc sram cassettes which. The more budget sram ones have the standard shimano splined fitting.

However the shimano freehub hope offer say its 10/11 speed so i cannot work out if it is long enough to fit a 12sp cassette!

This is a good thread. My uncle has written 4 book (I think) which I really enjoyed and are in the same style as river of London. They are the hipposync series by dc farmer. I’m not sure if they are in print but I got them on kindle from amazon. We’ll worth a look as they are genuinely great. I mean I have to say this as he is my uncle but still.

I have just had a nice ride out at Cannock. Is this the oblivion bit? There is a crappy left hander into a set of rocks? I did that black section and I don’t remember there being anything that you could not pretty much roll down. So if it is in that at section then I think with a bit of momentum it’s all rollable. I skipped the other back section so if it’s there I cannot comment!

I have used the conduct system on 2 bikes and like it a lot. Feels like hydro road brakes should feel like without the expense of going full hydro.

I have a set going spare at the moment if anyone is interested.

If you want a DH bike get one, It saves ruining your nice Uzzi at Antur stiniog or wherever. There is always a great range of sub 1000 DH bikes on pinkbike so you can take you pick!

I have gone the soap route too. It last much longer than shower gel and less waste.

I got some stuff from a soap shop in Whitby last year and it smells amazing. Shame I cannot remember either the shop name or what the soap was. Thats a pretty good recommendation….

    What about a 2nd hand transition patrol…

Jokes aside its a top quality bike for what you are after.

I think the wheel or fork mounts may be the only option!

I have put a Cane Creek IL coil on my patrol and it feels great. I don’t notice it being any worse at climbing and descending feels amazing.

Thanks Buenfoxa, What frame did you go for? I wish they did the C version frame only as I could be tempted with that over the alloy, but I refuse to pay the price for the CC!

Good knowledge. I did do a bit of research and came across the boost chainrings. For some reason I thought the boost cranks were a whole new standard with longer axles etc. None of this is as simple as it used to be!

That is interesting. That would be helpful if it is the case. I did read somewhere that my turbine crank could be run as boost but to be honest I am not 100% sure what the boost standard crank really is.

Yeah that was my thinking. Its a similar level but I have hope tech wheels, guide rs brakes and burgtec finishing kit so I am happy to keep it if i can.

I just wanted a sense check before I started dwn the frame only road and found out it was going to cost me more than a full build in the end!

The new build would be the basic 3.5k one and pretty much in line as my current build but newer.
Some maths show frame only could be a fair bit cheaper if no new wheels etc are needed which hopefully they won’t.

Try linda McCartney’s fake duck. It’s good. I like the meat substitutes apart from quorn mince as I don’t like the texture. If you don’t want to eat meat then they are fine.

I just watched that video too. It was good. They have quite a few up.

Do you think that method would work with sram guides too?

I saw merlin were doing the bell super dh helmet for £150 the other day and was tempted. Probably not available on the cycle to work scheme which is no help.i tried one on and it was very nice.

I have been doing sprint triathlons for the past 2 years in the East Midlands. They are fun things to do. I am a fair swimmer, rider and runner and get into the top ten in my age category. I don’t do them because I want to win and be the best triathlete ever, I do them because I enjoy them and that’s about it really.

I do train for them, I probably could train harder but that may mean taking it more seriously and if I am honest that would reduce the fun aspect.

The first one I did was the Slateman in Llanberis in 2014, which is a toughy. I did practice my swimming as I was very bad at it, but basically I just turned up and gave it a go, hated it and vowed never to do one again. When I moved to the midlands in 2017 I pretty much did the same again. The gym I use has a pool so I was swimming more so I figured why not try again! This time I did pretty well and more importantly really enjoyed it. Its all fun and that is the most important thing.

Just give it a go. Whats the worst that can happen?

I’m fine on my diverge, I know it’s not a TT bike and I’m content with it. I just need some tyres which aren’t the cx ones I just for commuting!

I will check out deals on the GP4000.

I have watched many bigfoot sighting videos on youtube. I honestly don’t care if it exists or not I just love the videos. Nothing beats an enthusiastic American pointing to a leaf on some shaky video footage and being 100% convinced its a bigfoot. So much fun.

We all enjoyed that trip to the hospital Chris.

I can only echo what others have said. Its a great place, plenty of riding for a few days but you will ride the same stuff a lot, but thats not necessarily a bad thing. I know they were putting in new tracks in 2017 so they should be open now so. We went with singletrack safari twice and recommend them highly.

On my Diverge A1 have swapped the original axis wheels for hunt wheels and gone 11 speed hydro on it and it feels a lot lighter, It may not be but it feels lighter to ride. The new wheels feel like they could be 1kg lighter, but I have no idea if this is a real fact.

That would be interesting. I do have a fair few things I would like to get rid of. I don’t need more stuff though. Nope. Nothing at all……..

I spoke to Praxis directly and they said any 110mm 5 arm chain ring will fit the crankset.

I have yet to fit the 50T shimano one I have so we will see how that goes.

I have the POC VDP air elbow pads (Medium). They are nice but i don’t get on with them so don’t wear them anymore. This is not the pads fault, its just person preference. I prefer the Raceface Indy pads which they replaced.

If you are interested in the POCS, get in touch.

Yeah…. I think its the inner ring. It looks like the outer is normal and living on the flat means I have never used the inner ring so refuse to spend 120ish on the praxis chain ring set.

I have ordered a shimano ring so if it fits great, if not I’m going to go for a shimano crankset to avoid this again.

I was going to get the 360 jacket but went for their rucksack instead. I saw my friend riding rocking the jacket and bag combo the other day and she was lit up like a comet!

I rate the the proviz stuff. It is super bright and the bag is great. Obs cannot comment on the jacket as I don’t own one.

I had a quick look at pink bike for stuff in your price range and you can pretty much get almost any model you want. Saw a decent looking yt Tues for 1200. It was a 2017 model. Plus a 2017 session. You should have no problems getting something good.

Thanks for all the responses. I have had superstar wheels before and I agree with what people are saying. I like the fact that Hunt can be adapted for most frame types which makes it easier if  ever change frame.

I will have a clear out of unused stuff and then see how affordable the hunt wheels look then!

    rhid

Yeah they look good and did look at the hunt wheels but the superstar ones are 150 and that makes them very attractive to me.

If it was for my best bike I’d probably be more drawn to the hunt ones.

I managed to get some 105 levers and my friend has promised me some slx calipers. With regard to hoses what do I need?

Do the lever require skinny road hoses or will mtb ones be OK? It’s the first time with this set up so have no idea what to expect!
