I bought some tickets to a gig in Dublin recently. Realised traveling over wod be extremely expensive. Tired to cancel them 1 hour later. No chance. That was with ticketmaster.

Nothing but rain in caernarfon. Supposed to get snowier tonight though.

It starts in the woods at the very top of moel y ci. If you tide into the woods via the fire road from the car park in mynydd Llandegai you can easily puck it up and follow it to top.

Moel y ci is a good short route. There is also the dh track to play on. If you are about in the Llanberis Area over the next few days drop me an email on rhid14@hotmail.com if you want someone to show you a few routes?

Sorry for returning to this old post but I too am bolt-less.

I bought new SLX 10sp shifters recently to run with my XT M785 brakes,as shown below-

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/shimano-slx-m670-10-speed-trigger-shifter/rp-prod83171

However they came with no bolts at all! Were they supposed to?? I have emailed CRC asking them to send me some as I am loathed to pay £9 for a set of flippin bolts! If they say no I will send the stupid things back and get some bar mounted ones. This whole thing has been a massive pain as I ended up having to buy a new SRAM 9sp mech to replace old ruined one as the box of shiny new Shimano 10sp stuff I got from CRC was completely useless due to there being no stupid bolts!!

Has anyone had any success in finding reasonable priced mounting hardware? I am after exactly what the OP was after all those months ago! Can anyone help?

I looked at that link on my phone and saw a Tues for 1200 Euro plus finance deals! I immediately got my laptop out but on the website via my laptop there is no 1200 Euro Tues. I don’t know if this is a good or a bad thing…..maybe I should just back away slowly now.

According to giant the small stand over is taller than the medium. I think medium is a better choice then as the Small is very short. My Remedy is a 23″TT and I get on well with that, the Medium glory is shorter again. Ahhh it’ll be fine!

How tall and what is your inside leg length Legend?

It feels a bit wrong asking that!

The Giant website is brilliant. They have a bike Archive which is easy to navigate and geometries on all models from the past 7 years!

The TT on the Small reign and Medium Glory are similar, however the standover is a lot more on the Glory. I will just have to try and find one and see what it is like.

GrahamT – what size Shocker did you get? The one I am looking at is medium. I’m 5’6 and prefer a longer bike. All the details I can find on line suggest a TT of around 23″ (585mm) for the Shocker. Does this sound about right?

The only problem I can see getting a new bike is that an existing one will have to go!!

Those are my thoughts exactly. I don’t want to ruin bits on my good trail bike so spending 500-650 on a proper dh bike for occasional use almost makes sense. I’m a bit spoilt too as I’m north Wales based so have Blaenau and nant g on my doorstep. Oh god I’m doing a great job of talking myself into this!!

The status looks great but I set my budget way low and found a few options. I even found a decent looking Kona Stab in small for £500. For that price it is a contender…….

The shocker looks very good plus it would be very convenient to buy it as the seller is relatively local! Its between that and a Glory which is a little bit further away.

At my budget I think anything I get would require a bit of attention but I don’t mind that. I am still not sure if I just really want another DH bike or will actually use it more than my last one!!

I’m in. I did the All mountain race on the Saturday last year and loved it. Will do the same again. If you don’t like the prices no one is forcing you to go.

The etape eryri is a great call. Start and finish in caernarfon. Plenty of pubs there.

It’s a 7am start so pretty early but it’s well worth it. Not on closed roads tho. I did it at a steady pace last year and too 8 hours. Doing it again this year!

It makes me feel happy inside looking at it.

I got the right hand lever mounted upside down on the left and it was pretty straight forward to do. I have brake set where i like it, reverb lever then shifter. Its the front shifter so doesn’t really get that much use, but even so its in a perfectly managable position. It may be better to have the brake and the shifter mounted seperately?

I hate it and have no idea what I’m doing when using it.

I go with the evel kneivel option.

If you were training to win races, sure spend £1000 on tuition, if not I don’t see the point in spending that much.

I went from a Santa cruz Bullit (fr frame) as a DH and Alps bike to a 224 and I do not regret that one bit. If you want to ride down stuff (and not have to ride up much) a DH bike will be great fun for what you describe. I could use my Bullit for trail triding if I was feeling fit but the 224 out descended it everytime, and that is the important thing. For downhill riding (with lift assistance!) I would go for a DH frame everytime!

Saying that I have a friend selling a Scott Voltage for 600 and if it wasn’t large I would have been buying it right now!

If you are on a budget and willing to go 2nd hand I was looking at a Ragley Blue Pig X on Pinkbike for £140. I had one before and loved it, in fact I nearly bought to one on PB but went for an Evil Sovereign instead! Also Piglets and Mmmbops come there pretty often. The Blue pig and Mmmbop are very similar to the frames you are looking at.

Just an update on this – Apparently my reverb heard my threats about bleeding it and has started to work perfectly…not sure how or why but I think it may have been hindered by the brake lever and subsequent moving of the lever has sorted this out!

    Thanks for all the advice

Thanks fro all the advice. I am pretty certain I check air pressure when I got it and it was a bit low so pumped up to the recommended 250psi.

When bleeding the speed dial should be turned to slow, is that correct? I remember reading or being told that this wasn’t necessarily the best way to bleed the post…..is this correct?

Loco- if it all goes wrong I could well be looking for a serivce!!

Muddy9mtb- thats a good tip I will check that too. I have already broken one connector on my other reverb, they are very fragile!

Ok. I will try and bleed it tonight. I have a spare post so I can still use the bike it if it all goes wrong and needs to be taken in bits to the shop!

Yeah I tried that first but to no avail. Its set at its fastest already and I think the continents may move a bit qicker than the post!

I am struggling a bit too. I have been running after work instead to keep stuff ticking over but am still using the “I’ll start next week” excuse! I know it will only take a ride or 2 to get back into it and getting back into regular commuting to work will help…….but its just so dark and windy in the mornings! I am in the process of building up an Evil Sovereign so once thats finished hopefully excitement will help me sort myself out!

If I feel like I’m losing interest I buy a new bike! It’s a good way to keep keeness levels up. When I say buy a new bike that tends to mean a few frame. It works for me!

Thanks Monkeysfeet, I work in Llanberis so a few easily accessable DH trails opposite work would be possibly the best thing ever.

Was there any mention of the proposed DH trails developement in the Quarries near First Hydro? There was mention of it a while a go but its gone quite.

SteveT1 – I was looking at the Chromag frame but sadly is out of budget for me on this build.

Arrgh they both look so good, Part of me says try the Sovereign as you have always wanted one, the other part says get a blue pig cos you know you like it!

The Yellow Evil looks fantastic. Keep the pics coming as this has not helped one bit!

Hahaha yeah I had a Blue Pig 6 months ago and loved it but have always fancied a sovereign! I know etiher one will be awesome. Still its a good excuse to see lots of nice pictures!

electron light with a rubbery strap fits to the few cm of post showing. It is quite low down and the wheel possibly obscures a lot of the light. Going to get a saddle attachment.
