    Can you describe the ride?

The Sync is fast, its very responsive when you put your foot down, really gets up to speed quickly, and it’s very stiff at the rear, due to the short chunky chain stays and the DT Swiss bolt-thru axle. I want to say that the overall ride is smooth, but that makes it sound like any Ti 29er, it’s smooth but really aggressive when you want to chuck it about, especially for a large 29er. I also went for the direct mount XTR rear mech which makes shifting super snappy, add a dropper post and there’s your perfect do-it-all trail bike, in my opinion of course. 😉

@ mattjg – where are you based?

Been out riding my Maxlight Sync all weekend, rides and looks amazing, pretty much perfect trail bike, for me anyway. The small is 650B though.

I used one for about 10 years no probs, had to get an extender bar for my zesty though, acted as a dummy top tube. I now use a thule rook rack and just lost a bike off the roof, human error though.

I’ve got a Haven, no complaints. I’d also look at Chromag.

Sleep, mine used to get restless and spasms which kept me awake, try and up the magnesium. SIS do a nightime recovery drink called nocte which is high in mag, expensive though. Just eat more spinach and yogurt. Maybe a bit obvious but slowing the pace on a few days will help too.

    Edit: Nesquik contains mag

I did whites level a few weeks ago, the climb is pretty tough, it’s the old downhill I think. The forest bits in the middle are awesome.

I just look at them somewhat wistfully at cleaning time.

    Don’t clean it 😉

I have to admit my heart sank when the downtube of my new Ti had a fight with the studs on the flat pedals of my sons bike in the shed.

You can’t worry about scratches off-road.

I ran Spesh Storm Control 2bliss all winter, very impressed, pretty much the same tread as Bonty Mud X, but they seem to roll faster than Mud X for me. Piece of cake to fit tubeless with track pump too.

XTR Shadow plus rear mech with a direct mount is worth the extra £££, shifting is so quick, XT for everything else works for me.

@ manga – that clamp is lovely, what post is that? The Thomson Ti bars are nice too.

Never liked inlines, aggressives are marginally better, I’m an old school bauer turbo with kryptonics kind of guy, not leg warmers though. Always fancied a set of these:

I’ve had my large Kinesis Sync Ti for a couple of weeks now, the main thing I’ve really noticed is how comfortable and adaptable it is, it’s just as happy munching miles and climbs, as it blasting around twisty forest trails. It’s also very responsive when you really put your foot down and very stiff at the rear. So to answer the original OP, I would say Ti is definitely worth it with the right frame design.

I currently have a Kenda Slant 6 at 2.1 and there’s plenty of clearance, anything really big and knobbly might get a bit tight with the sram front mech I’ve got fitted, there should be more clearance with an XT front mech. Not sure re: bottle cage, I’ve only ever use one so no issue for me.

Looks real tidy, Kinesis are really bang on form at the moment, loving my Maxlight Sync, really like the look of the GF Ti, and I don’t really do road bikes.

If you ride a small the Kinesis Maxlight Sync Ti SML is 650b. I have the large 29er, splendid piece of kit.

I did it two weeks ago and did it twice in one day, I did the clockwise reservoir route first, starting at Brecon. The last descent was rocky ST though overgrown brambles More road than I expected, nice and rocky up top though.

turn up the sharp road climb with BKB running parallel on your right. Its a left then immediately into the woods

No, turn right up road past pedal and spoke and the hurtwood hotel, turn left into walking bottom cp, pitch is there, winterfold further up on the right.

Winterfold is next to Pitch Hill, park at Walking Bottom, was over there last night, proper dusty and rooty, some new jumps so be careful.

After a bit of a day of it at work I took the Sync for it’s second ride over at Pitch Hill last night, WOW, the trails were as predicted dusty, rooty and fast, the Sync was in it’s element, as was I 🙂

Being reviewed in next issue of ST, I think I know what he’s going to say.

is riding a rigid fork going to hurt?

yes, if you don’t pick your lines, rolling over lots of roots can be interesting, a big tyre with less than 30psi will help. You’ll be flying uphill though.

and is the same fork as the White Bros, only with less expensive stickers on it

I assumed that but I’m not so sure, they do look very similar but heard exotics flex like eck, white bros are rock solid.

BTW – why is everyone after carbon rigids again?
