I started from Brecon going clockwise, more road than expected. Just before you go down the gap itself maybe hike up to the top of the peak on your right, great view up there and fun descent. I’ve heard they’ve sanitised the gap rocky descent, is it true?

That’s quite a route there Rewski. Do you do it as essentially a BW-based loop taking in a few bits of singletrack?

Yes, a lot of BW and mainly NDW, some cheeky ST and footpaths, but I’m respectful of walkers etc, Another good route is Woldingham to Eastbourne, NDW to St Marthas Hill > Downlink > SDW, starts hard, middle easy, ends very hard, I blew up at Black Cap last time, ran out of food and water, got the train of shame from Lewes :( Determined to complete it this year.

Medjool Dates – these are awesome, don’t have too many though, unless you’re planning a mid ride comfort break. High in fibre, potassium, magnesium and taste like caramel, I cut the stones out pre ride, you don’t want to be swallowing those.

Re: empty stomach, I never eat on my early morning 15 mile commute, I do have my evening meal quite late though. I’ve never been able to eat early. I’ll have a cold fruit porridge at work.

Surrey/Croydon: I ride around Riddlesdown > Woldingham > North Downs Way > Caterham > Reigate even over to Ranmore Common and Peaslake via Headley and Box Hill even I’m feeling like an all dayer. There’s a lot of very big trees down still but most of the trails and bridlepaths are fine for a CX, some of the gravel has been washed away to reveal what looks like a river bed with deep holes, chalk and huge flint bolders, all good fun though.

Kent: Greensand Way around Croakham Hill, Toys Hill, Limpsfield Chart is near too. V muddy.

My flat boys chewed my am40 soles in weeks, 5 10 stealth soles are far superior, not much cop tending on a muddy hill though.

zippykona – sorry no much of a description, it fits at the back of the saddle and yes once you’ve got used to the position you can reach around and grab a bottle.

    linky here

Might try one of these for my NDW – DL – SDW all dayer, can chuck in some tools etc too.

I have one of these for all day xc rides, the bolts came loose on really bumpy descents though, a bit of loctite would sort that.

Zesty 514 to Kinesis sync 29, the first thing I noticed was how fast the sync was on pedalling, especially uphill, the zesty was fast but the sync is more responsive, the backend is very stiff, obviously due to be ht and also the bolt thru axle the comes with the sync. Being Ti it’s light and very smooth on the trail, not as smooth as 140 rear suspension though

I’ll be keeping the zesty though, it’s 4 years old now and worth more to me than what I could get for it s/h.

Got bored with GT, especially load times. I’m loving NFS Rivals, can get quite stressful.

They’re still just a freeview box with a sports channel.

Actually, you’re wrong there, with Youview and Infinity you can get HD premium channels, Sky Movies, Sky Movies On Demand, Curzon Home Cinema, Catch Up…

It’s always been a bit of a target, people love hating Croydon, I used live near Surrey St about 12 years ago, had a great time, great bars, clubs, record shopping in Big Apple and Beanos, there’s even great riding to be had on the vast network of bridleways and the downs… honestly.

Don’t go all the way to the A23, get off at the Godstone junction and go up the A22/Caterham Bypass/Sanderstead/Selsdon then in to Croydon that way.

Part of that is closed due to flooding anyway. I’m in Riddlesdown, Croydon is a place I pass on the train or bike.
