Well I’m loving the carbon seatpost, quite nice not to worry about dropper, smoother ride too. Only one ride in so far though.

…is going to cost more to service etc that it’s worth

maybe so, but it’ll be worth more once it’s working. You could always put medium spec parts on it then sell it. I would personally keep it and bring it back to life with top notch kit.

You are looking at +40 y/o cars… yeh I know, crazy eh? Hence my concern.

Ok I think the best plan of action is to spend this summer going to a few american car shows, there’s a big one at brands hatch I think, and maybe rent one for a weekend. My main concern is my garage is too small so will have to rent a lock up, I’m not mechanically minded so really want something to drive occasionally rather than tinker with. Not worried about fuel costs as it won’t be main vehicle. .

Can a midlife crisis happen twice?

I’m still rocking the Shimano on my 2010 514, been a solid set of hoops, only had one rear hub replaced. If I were to replace them I’d probably give the maxlights a try.

That is sad news, his writing was always a joy to read, especially his recent reviews in ST. Thoughts to family and friends.

@CFH – clearing out the garage today and found that exact issue of mbuk, weird.

Looking forward to The Horrors new album in May, the two tracks released so far sound good.

I got a severe telling off by the medics for riding home with a shattered clavicle, a compound fracture can be pretty serious, they’d rather pick you up with minor injuries than major. I was running tripping out on adrenalin and not thinking straight

Good luck with the wrist, done one of those too, you don’t realise how strong and clever your wrists are until you damage them.

Mmmm, as I suspected, I’ll have to try it for a few weeks whilst I get my Hilo serviced, not sure the 200g weight saving is worth it though. Cheers

try porridge with bacon and egg.

I have cold porridge with apple juice and berries, much nicer after a sweaty ride.

Around Camber and Winchelsea would be good, not sure about tides this time of year but you could ride from Pevensey Bay to Bexhill quite easily when the tides out, I kayak around there and often wondered about biking. Pint of Harveys at the Cooden Beach Hotel.

My mate works at the BBC, they have free biscuits in every meeting, quality ones too, no own brand rich tea rubbish.

I use schwable marathon plus on my mtb commuter, they have a Kevlar lining which makes them pretty puncture proof, they are heavier though. And go as thin a you can for your rim.

Edit: might give the contis a try when the above wear out.

Didn’t expect Cymande to be on here, one of my fave bands, Dove never left my record box, Bra and The Message are tunes too.

I’ve been going through some old albums:

Lights Out: San Francisco (Voco Presents The Soul Of The Bay Area)
    Madvillainy – Madvillain
    Calender – It’s a Monster

Got a pair and my 29er HT, I found them tricky to keep in a straight line in the really deep sloppy mud, might of been down to being new and tyre pressure being too high. Now the trails are drier and they’ve worn in a big im feeling more confident with them, lower pressures seem to help get the most out of tri shaped tread, jury still out.

I’ll travelling from Dundee to East Sussex

Definitely not worth travelling that distance.

If you want a weekend taster then try Cuckmere Haven in East Sussex, gentle kayak out the estuary into the sea next to the Seven Sisters. You can also ride in Friston Forest next door, perfect weekend.

I was wondering this, my downtube had a fight with a dmr vault pedal and I managed to scratch the black paint, wondering whether to touch up or strip down.
