Easy – give yourself 30 mins warm up on the bike, if you have no energy even on flats then call it a day. Sometimes you can get cold like effects from overtraining, I’m suffering now with a sore throat, I know it’s probably down to too many miles and not enough recovery time. I will say that sometimes you can sweat and phlegm your way out of most snivels, but sometimes you’ve just got to give in, there’s always another day.

wiggle are pretty clued up, a 10p packet of haribo and we’re smiling like a cheshire cat, even though we’ve spent £30 on a recovery powder drink.

I commute out of london on bike, I get pulled out onto all the time no matter whether I’m in hi-viz, flashing cats eyes, helmet light or even my Telsa 5 on second beam. I truly believe most drivers commuting in and out of london or any other busy cities are either tired or in some sort of constant daze, mainly caused by sitting in endless brain numbing traffic whilst cyclists whizz past without a care in the world. Cycling has gone through the roof in london, as a side effect the opportunity for other vehicles and pedestrians to pull out of junctions and cross busy roads as been greatly reduced, which is why I experience so many people taking the chance and pulling out.

I followed a guy home last night who’d put a flashing cats eye at the back pointing to the ground, very effective.

Your deluded if you think fireman live in luxury, what you saw was a modern, well designed and functional building, one of the first I’ve ever seen, most stations aren’t like that. Overall a bit of a cheap shot.

As far as Hugh Fearnley is concerned, what you see is what you get, honest grub, the veggies dishes looked awesome. At least he’s not salivating and dribbling cream into his mouth to a backing track of groove armarda, whilst the camera pulls in and out of focus, false tosh.

Give the lads at MTB UK a shout, they’ve been road testing a vito all year, they might be a bit biased though. Nice looking van though.

I love my too, the soles are a bit shredded now, was thinking about getting them re-soled or just get a new pair. I also have an old pair of nike freeride shoes with a super padded tongue and sides, they’re still going strong, apparently nike pulled out of bike sportswear, saturated market I guess?

It also sounded like he made his missus put all her paintings into storage, or on ebay. The black granite worktop didn’t work and the upstairs was a very pokey. Turning the guild hall into a dining room? God, can you imagine how boring the dinner conversation would be?

I was diagnosed by my doc about two years ago after a blood test, funny enough it was picked up by a kinesiologist that I was seeing for an unrelated illness, Anyway, I was prescribed levothyroxine, 100mg I recall, these gave me palpitations and an anxious feeling so stopped taking them, had another blood test, was prescribed a lower dose to help with the side effects, 25mg, this helped, then had another blood test, over the past few years my dose has been slowly increased, I’m now on 150mg and feel fine, I bike a lot and manage to keep my weight down, I eat normally and drink booze in moderation. All is good.

They do look a bit like golf shoes, OK once they’ve been caked in mud a few times, one of my soles has been ravaged by my dmr v12s, got a years wear out of them, not sure how that compares to the 5 10s. Super grippy though. have you seen the new AM41’s, they look even more golf shoes.

Thanks Tony, sounds great, assume it’s OK to just rock up, with night lights of course? Also, I’m interested in any Sussex based SDW or Friston Forest night rides.

Hi Jim, thanks, I’ve stumbled across the muddy arse bunch before, I ride a lot over Friston and SDW.

At home – For me it’s got to be a Bavette steak or beef skirt simply grilled on bbq or griddle, bags more flavour in the skirt and a very very cheap cut, very popular in France.

Thanks TJ – Interesting, although those figures are from 1986, not sure if that’s relevant, for one riding has become more extreme and helmet technology much improved.

For me it’s kind of missed the point, if you ride a lot off-road the risk is high, wearing a helmet reduces the risk of upper head injury by 63% and loss of consciousness by 86%. Doesn’t take a genius really.

TJ – can you provide a link to the stats please? Thanks

Yes a lot of new riders out today, being a regular for some years now I’ve seen some pretty horrific cycling and driving, sometimes by myself, split second wrong decision etc. I used to get a bit naffed with new riders or fair weather riders but now I think good luck to them and give plenty of space and even slow down a bit, it’s not a race. What I will say is over the past year or so drivers (even black cabbies and bus drivers) have been more polite and genial, I think they now realise that cycling in the city is the future and is here to stay, for the summer months at least.

The main issue now is pedestrians meandering into the road sending text messages.

TJ – the choice is not yours, risk is always high.

    Another pointless debate.

Wearing a helmet? It’s a no brainer, excuse the pun. I went over the bars earlier this summer, due the the long dry weather the ground was like concrete, I managed to knock myself out and suffer a severely displaced fractured clavicle. The helmet definitely saved me a serious if not fatal head injury, foolishly I was also alone in a fairly remote forest, I managed to cycle home in a concussed state, god knows how.
