I imagine giving our track and field team a damn good thrashing would up our medal tally significantly. I can’t believe we haven’t tried it

I believe the Chinese had similar training methods for their gymnasts. Allegedly ?

It appears she crossed the line and it’s been caught on film. I’m more curious as to who and why it’s been leaked right before her chance to break the female medal record.

It’s either tactical, or someones just pissed off hearing how great she is and generally having smoke blown up her arse. No doubt the outcome of the investigation will be the same as the one recently where the woman was caught punching her horse in the face ( and as in the response above – which was hopefully tongue in cheek )

Whipping a horse 24 times in a minute so that it’d lift it’s legs up higher….yep no abuse there. It’s the none horse folk that just don’t understand.

What’s the perceived wisdom on leaving an EV unused for a period of time then? We go away for a month in September….

Personally never had a problem .  As with an ICE , i’ve always made sure there is nothing left on that is draining the system. If anything ,its the 12V side of things that would let you down.  I’d just leave it at around 80% on the main battery.

I get on quite well with my inlaws.

There is no danger of them staying , or even visiting, as my wife fell out with them around 8 years ago and hasn’t spoken to them since. I keep in contact for the sake of the kids , which ironically are the reason for the fallout in the first place.

Hmmm, so after conversation with accountant yesterday who said there was nothing outstanding , one of the senior partners rang me to re-assure me , but did mention I had a just over £200 I had outstanding on my PAYE account. He also said they wouldn’t be chasing that as it’s such a small amount.

Roll on this morning when I received the letter from Advantis saying it’s time to pay my HM Revenue and Customs bill of £230. So that tallies up with what the accountant is saying.
I shall be having words with my accountant on Monday as to why I have run that bill up , as when I get my payslip I pay myself my salary and my nics etc to HMRC Paye/Nics Cumb on the same day ?

They can also tell me whether to pay directly to HMRC or to this lot whilst they are at it .

Compare and contrast with Renault’s new 5.

Have been looking at those and the Alpine version today as well. It looks quality. “Retro” done well

    Capital gains on primary residences.

At what point in the process though ?
For example, the house I paid £100k for is now selling at £150K.
The house I want to purchase is £200k.
You want to tax me on the £50k rise in the property value on current house ??

Mmm, I don’t want to pay that , so i’ll stay put, thus keeping a £150K property out of the market B-)

him as Policy holder and main driver, and me with a clean licence as second named driver, it is £3800.

will be going through this soon. Have heard a lot of people do this . Does it affect your own policy if the child has to make a claim on the insurance ?

Did one last August and the sea was like a mill pond most of the way up and whilst we were up there. The weather was great, got a good sun tan most days.
Wife and youngest went a couple of weeks ago and stayed in inside berth. The North sea was a touch rough at times. I don’t think she will do that again. We normally have a balcony as a minimum as we spend a fair bit of time in the cabin.
( we’re not alcoholics so not taking the “drinks” package means we can afford to go for a nicer grade of cabin ;) )
Its nice to sit on your balcony whilst watching the scenery as you go through the Fjords.
Going again end of August so hope it’s like last year.

The wife sorts out all the insurance stuff when we go on holiday. She likes to be thorough when declaring pre existing conditions , from ileal atresia ( eldest child when he was born 17 years ago) , right up to tooth abscess last year ( hers) and everything in between. Pushes it up a bit , but any excuse not to pay out and they’ll find  it .

Are ebay asking for the money back off your 16 year old to reimburse them for the money they refunded the scooter buyer?

That is the long and short of it.
I knew he had sold the scooter , and I know it came back ( and I was pissed off as it was not damaged , it was because the person who bought it had forced the wrong spacers into the forks. Once I had changed them round everything was tickety boo🤦‍♂️) .

what i didn’t know  was that all this was done through eBay. Thought he had sold it locally.

I know that 16 year olds can be chased for debt on things like mobile phone contracts, so it’s not beyond the pale that Ebay fees might be as well? I really don’t know though.

I think a parent can sign on behalf of the child for a mobile contract. From what I have read so far about eBay , you HAVE to be 18 .
The correspondence is in his name , and there is ( as far as I know ) no id in his name showing an age other than what he is ( actually 15 at the time )

Its his birthday soon , looks like he’s getting his debt paid as his main present 😂

The dubbed voices sound a bit daft at times.
You can see how much it means to the managers etc in the car when they get the win though. Proper excitement.
Was the breakaway by Pinot a throw back to the old days, where they would let riders go up the road a bit so their local crowds could see them when it was their last year of racing ?

    @gobuchal

Don’t get too hung up on clean holes for what you are doing. It’s not like you are fixing down critical structures . Just clean it out best you can.
Even if your hole is a little dusty you’ll still not pull them out .
A tube of Kemfix and some pre cut studs from Screwfix / Toolstation and Bobs your uncle.
if you are using an M12 stud then you want to drill a 14 dia hole.
Worry  about removal if and when you ever take it out . Grind off flush with floor. I’m assuming the thing is going to be enclosed in something so it’s probably not got to look pretty ?
My only concern would be cracking the floor tile when drilling so either start off with a tile drilling bit and finish with SDS etc . Just make sure impact is switched off until you are initially through

If you want to go full STW on it then get yourself an MClass Vacuum and a hollow sds drill bit for the win 😂

They’re telling us that this is because the ceiling joists need to sit on top of that beam, not within the web so the load of those joists is taken by the whole beam.

yeah, they have effed up. In 37 years of detailing steelwork , the joists ( be it either cold rolled steel or timber ) always go into the web of the beam. If the beam is deeper than the joists then a correct thickness timber is fixed to the top of the bottom flange ,and the timbers will sit on this . The top of the joists are usually flush to the top of the steel beam. Sometimes if the bearing on the bottom flange isn’t wide enough they shot fire / bolt a timber into the web and fix bat hangers to support the joists

What was your appeal based on then?

mainly the SEN issues. We also highlighted that at the other school they have mixed ability classes ( similar to current setup at primary). At the school we want him to go to the classes are based on ability. He often shuts down because he sees himself as dumb as the other kids are “better” than him. He is a whizz with the maths though (although he struggles with accepting praise). The other school has major issues with bullying , drugs , poor SEN support  where kids are punished wrongly due to things they do linked to their autism. ( real issues from local online support support groups not just hearsay). You are not allowed to slag off the other school during your appeal hence why I was kept away from the zooms 😂.

We did have some nice statements from his primary, that said he had a better chance of thriving with the set up of the school he is going to , along with being amongst his friends who are going there .

    good news. On what basis?

we get a letter on Thursday I believe , explaining everything. The call was just a matter of yes or no if you couldn’t wait to know .

Hmmm EHCP. Current school was very reluctant to get involved in him getting one. To the point where the SEN lead said they weren’t worth the paper they were written on 🤷‍♂️. I’m not really allowed to talk to grown ups at the school as I tend to tell it how it is ( or how I see it anyway) . Hence why my wife has done a sterling job of dealing with all this 😁

said SEN lead left the school a while ago and has not been replaced ( she covered several schools in the group). Now the head , deputy head and a few teachers are having to organise things. Whilst trying to do their own jobs at the same time . Complete shambles

Woo hoo , we won the appeal to get him into the school he wanted. The wife came into my office in tears earlier after making the phone call to find out the decision, so naturally I braced myself for bad news. Turns out it was tears of joy ( and relief).
Thank to her for all her hard work and to the panel who overturned the schools decision.

I shudder to think how much this fully loaded model buzz will cost. VW will definitely push the price envelope with this, after all they do have to pay for their dieselgate fees and fines somehow.

I was toying with the idea of waiting for the new versions , mainly for the bigger battery options and the pan roof ( i loves a big pan roof ). I like my vehicles fully specced and the SWB buzz I have was £72K rrp ( i got it as a pre-registered with 10 miles on the clock and a 3 year warranty for £57K ). By the time the new models hit the road , all the incentives to buy EV for business will have gone so I went for it. I think they are going to be up in the £75-£80k range for a fully loaded one

Seats should have been removable to create a flat floor.

if you have the multi board fitted, you get a flat floor when the seats are folded. Albeit 200ish mm higher than the “actual” floor

That’s the beauty of the EV , bed the tyres and brakes in and that’s you done . As your chap said , 200 miles should do it

I’ve followed the recommended run in period on all the new cars I’ve bought and not had an issue with any of them . I do the same with the stereo . At least 30 hours at lowish volume until it’s bedded itself in .

The only time a salesperson has mentioned it, was the Ford Commercial dealer when I have bought Transit Customs.

I went on a Porsche driving experience a while ago and was absolutely ragging it round the track . I was surprised to see it only had 800 miles on the clock , but the instructor seemed to think I the cars there had a special run in procedure rather than the recommended 1800 miles

Just like their bike mechanics , I wouldn’t trust them to fit a Dashcam ( especially if it’s a new car).*

There will usually be an independent near you . Have a look for Audio / security companies.

i had a black Vue front and rear fitted for same price as Halfords were charging. But it was in a nice workshop by guys doing it day in day out. Not under a canopy in a car park 😁

I have a Halo Ultra with fitting kit I want fitted  . They charge £79 for front and £109 for front/ rear fitting.  If you are anywhere near Saltash I would recommend Retrofit Southwest

    * There are some knowledgeable ones , but it’s not like the barbers where you can wait for the one you want 😂

As an up and coming pensioner have you factored in having the heating on all day if you can’t get out, more dentistry & opticians costs, care costs, travel insurance,  travel costs once you are no longer able to cycle or drive – just a few I can think of off the top of my head & yes there are reductions in costs in many areas too but suggesting it’s a one way street & old age is a bed of cheaper roses is not the full picture.

Just use your free bus pass to get you down to the local ‘spoons.

Just £1.58 will buy you a  refillable cup for hot drinks. Spend all day there. Take your laptop for STW browsing . You can easily get 10,000 steps in by simply going to the toilet a few times

If an 18 year old gets a job and starts paying taxes isn’t that enough of a contribution to society?

This is the bit I don’t understand. I just watched our local  MP on Facebook saying that they could fit their “Volunteering” in at the weekends if they had full time jobs. As you rightly say they are already contributing to society. Easy target though

can you imagine trying to get 18 year old roadman types to comply with “national service” . Don’t make me laugh

I’ve got the sliding doors on mine too. All the boxes were ticked apart from the retractable towbar ( it was a pre registered).
Had the electric side doors on the T6.1 too and never had an issue with them . Buzz has been great so far ( and has charging ports in the rear doors which is a bonus )

Not actually put bikes in mine as yet , but coming from a T6.1 transporter (Kombi) it is no where near as big in the back. I have the raised board in the boot which makes it all level when you fold the rear seats down . This can be removed in a few minutes . You wouldn’t get a full bike in stood up with it in position.

I’m not at home at the moment , but I will take dimensions for you when I get back.

With regards to efficiency etc , I find it pretty good. I did a 650 mile trip last week up from Devon to Silverstone then to Sywell , down to central London and home ( over 3 days) . Started with a full charge, then charged whilst having breakfast next day, then whilst having lunch next day, then whilst having lunch the day after , then a quick charge at Cullompton to get me home ( managed to put 20kw in whilst having a pee – didn’t intend to spend that much , just needed about 10 to get me home).

This was the first time I have used the network in about a year and it is significantly better than it was, albeit a lot more expensive than before 😔. No range anxiety , and no impact on my time. Just how it should be

When I got there, there was only 1 7kWh charger available, all of the 22kWh ones were taken. Slightly worried at this point, but all panned out well.

I think it only charges at 7 kWh max on AC anyway so no loss there

After hearing some of the stories from my Paramedic neighbour , I more than take my hat off to you guys. I can’t imagine ( well I can , as he goes into detail at times 😱) how you deal with that day in day out, with very little support. I find it morbidly fascinating and can talk to him for hours about it ( with the bonus I think it helps him decompress).

It also seems a lot of the new kids on the block don’t have the same old school sense of humour to help them through the day, and really struggle emotionally when the going gets tough and the pressure is on.
