£200k over budget…
I wonder how much he would have saved if he had just paid for the drawings and got it done the way the architect envisioned. What did building control have to say about it all ? My mate had nothing but hassle from them about the insulation in his eaves details when he converted a detached garage into a small dwelling.
Fair play to him though if he has done all that finishing by himself , that’s a lot of work. At least it kept him from gluing his hands to the M25 ;)
1revs1972Free Membermost of it is bollocks spouted by angry and idiotic petrol headed Americans.
And that annoying flat capped **** , Geoff on the Youtube.
revs1972Free Member7 seater GTX in silver, I have 3 kids and often a mother in law… didn’t seem to be that many options. A guy from the VW main office called me to check my interest and said that my local dealer would call me soon. He seemed to think it’d be a couple of months.
I’ve gone for the same colour. Currently have a nuclear yellow ( as the kids call it) , so wanted something a bit tamer this time. The other GTX colours didn’t really do it for me, but having seen the Silver in the flesh it really looks nice.
VW dealers vary massively for customer service, so I’d be pro-active if you haven’t heard from them soon. Our local(ish) commercial one was absolutely crap in getting back to me when I was buying my current vehicle , so I ended up buying one from 170 miles away at a dealer who was actually interested in selling you something. I have the GTX on order through one of the VW car dealers not too far from home. I’ve also used them when I had an issue with seat airbags and the current problem with the peeling vegan steering wheel which is being replaced with a proper leather one this week. Just hope VW spec the new ones with a real leather steering wheel ( or at least a better synthetic one). Apart from that , no other issues with it, and the GTX should improve that experience.
revs1972Free MemberI have just started the purchasing process for my first ever new car (46 and only ever bought used). A VW buzz GTX. I’ll let you all know how it goes!
what configuration did you go for ?
I’ve got a 6 seat , 86 kWh, LWB on order . Has your dealer given any indication to delivery dates yet ?
revs1972Free Memberdid they actually build the outbuildings that were mentioned at the start?
You could see the big black “shed” when looking out the big rear window
1revs1972Free MemberI’m doubting the under budget bit, I suspect not entirely honest there, all for the clicks and likes.
Do GD check this or just take their word?
He did mention he had a contingency built into his costings. Might have been a generous 10/20%
Apart from the extra £4k they paid on the groundworks ( probably offset by what they saved on the Corten) , it all appeared to go well.
Only thing that niggled me ,were the missing skylights. Why not just knock up some waterproof timber covers so they could get on with the inside with no danger of water coming in . ( rather than just stapling polythene sheets to the outside )
revs1972Free MemberCarrying a few thousand slates onto a roof in a nice shiny superdry rucksack whilst looking better than I do when I go out for a posh meal? Completely staged.
100% , especially with farmer Giles next door with his handy Telehandler ;)
1revs1972Free MemberAhead of schedule / under budget / she didn’t get pregnant ?
what nonsense is this ??
Really wanted to slag this one off, but the only thing I didn’t like was the corten steel. <shrug>
I can’t stand the stuff , but the rusty / retro look really helped them out there . There’s a reason why a decent survey is in the £k’s , along with fitting. Fair play for having a go though
revs1972Free MemberAre those patio doors legal ? I actually quite like the fact you can open the door and fall out but surprised it got signed off!
The stairs look great, but no banister? Right trendy but completely impractical for young kids or recovering from surgery / old age etc
they did say it wasn’t finished when Kev came back for the final visit. However, with grand children running round the house, surely anyone would make those a priority? Although based on his previous decisions , there probably isn’t an area to fix a Juliette balcony to
1revs1972Free MemberWe also thought the outside stairs were bonkers. Everyone seeing you in your PJs when going up and down for a cuppa lol!
im sure the 3d models showed a second staircase inside the building for such purposes
1revs1972Free MemberHmmm, another one using their “commercial” teams to build their personal projects . I wonder how much of that cost “disappears” into other jobs ;)
revs1972Free MemberPretty sure most dealers arent going to let me take a specialist along and stick the car on the ramp and spend 30-60 mins checking everything over
That’s what a “test drive” is for. Find one local to you and schedule the two. Make sure the salesperson doesn’t come out with you. Or maybe for shits and giggles make sure they do. They’ll give you all the spiel about how great a car it is, so the proof is in the pudding.
If they kick up a fuss, walk away :)
1revs1972Free MemberSeems that used EVs just can’t be sold in the UK. Chap was saying that he had hundreds just gathering dust as no one bids on them in [trade] auctions. Some are cherry-picked by buyers from some African countries he said. Otherwise ‘no one wants them’.
Was his name Geoff ??
Sounds like he is totally full of shit to me. Oh, I can’t sell them at auction , so I’ll just let them sit around ?? Surprised they haven’t all caught fire by now ;)
You’ve only got to watch someone like RSymons RSEV ( who actually deals the things) on Youtube to get a better gauge on how the things are selling. Perhaps Geoff should be punting his stock through them .
2revs1972Free MemberBoth seemed quite upbeat , with Bob’s previous ailments explained . Young Ted on form :)
1revs1972Free MemberMy lad puts his shirt supercar vids on TikTok .
usually gets around a few thousand views , but one in particular got over 7million views
no explanation as to why that particular one blew up
2revs1972Free Memberremoving him would almost certainly solve the problem, not destroying the Palestinian people.
does he play golf ?
1revs1972Free MemberDon’t know. But their space perception skills look to be all to cock
1revs1972Free MemberWhat if STW were a conduit for anti UK propaganda and there were spies amongst us, especially in all those political threads?
And, who’s recommended a Chinese EV recently, or a smartphone?
I’m staying away from anything with “self driving” abilities ;)
revs1972Free MemberWorse than that IME. I’ve got a wall/window opening done with a laser level that is 8mm out over 2.4m. Following that I’ve checked and corrected with a quality spirit level placed on a long straight rafter.
Maybe my old boss’s son did the setting out on that one . We had an eyewateringly expensive Hilti rotary level at work, which he used to set out the steel on a riser up in London . Only he forgot to unlock the prism, so instead of being level , it was only as good as what he had levelled the tripod to, using the bubble. I think it was something like 80 brackets that had to be altered as he had marked out and drilled all the holes in the concrete walls using the level . Doh !
revs1972Free MemberGet a rotary for setting out your levels etc – recommended for outside work,
then a cross line for indoor work
more money you spend , generally the more accurate they are.
most of the cheaper end is around +/- 3 mm over 10 m , which is ok for diy etc
1revs1972Free MemberQuite a lucrative business supplying traffic control if what I was told was true ( no reason to disbelieve ). At the height of Covid injections, there was a set of lights controlling traffic in and out of a local(ish) establishment with a 3 man team sat in a drop side most of the day. All for the measly sum of some £80k a month. Guessing that was billed to the NHS
revs1972Free MemberWe’ve had mice, gerbils and hamsters in the past from the local(ish) rescue centre.
All have been characters in their own way.
I’ll never forgive that bastard hamster though, for chewing his way into the bottom of the sofa …. In a different place , each time he did a runner from his cage !!
see what your local rescue centre have in before buying from Pets at home
revs1972Free Member£100,000 portrait of a Tory
WTAF. Could have knocked one up in photoshop and printed it on canvas for £20. Did he pay for that with the gold he sold off ?
revs1972Free MemberWhen you last drilled out a bolt, did you use any fluid?
When I drill anything made of metal , will always use a cutting oil or paste. WD40 specialist multi purpose cutting oil is my go to.
Trouble with most main dealer “mechanics” these days are they are mostly “technicians” with very little experience in proper engineering methods when it all goes tits up. Just remove and replace until the problem goes away ;)
revs1972Free MemberBit of a resurrection of a thread, but we were in Hellesylt yesterday in view of the mountain Lil’ Tommy rode off.
This is apparently one of the bikes recovered. New bombers and a pair of wheels and it should be good to go ??
2revs1972Free MemberI wonder if people actually read what’s written in a post before making comments like
op, can you confirm who’s paying the policy? if you wife is still paying, then she will be the beneficiary,
when the wording clearly states
( also considered asking him whether he would like to take it over but we doubt he’d be interested as money is tight)
revs1972Free Memberkaren in her range rover sport!
I think you’ll find that’s an Evoque ?
1revs1972Free Memberthe poor are much more likely to spend money on domestically produced goods.
i think you might have that arse about face .
the poor are more likely to spend their money on cheap imitation shite from China than stuff made in Britain due to the costs
see Clarksons explanation of how much it costs to produce a quality sausage in this country vs importing from abroad
revs1972Free MemberSold 2 year old EV through Carwow last October
WBAC were offering crap money , Motorway guide was very high , but actual offers were a lot lower ( lower than WBAC in the end ).
Tried Carwow who came back with a lowish guide price. Ignored them , got a few phone calls off them , told them the minimum I would take , and a couple of days later it was sold . Buyer sent an independent car transporter guy who confirmed all was in order and as described , the payment was made in the next half hour into my account and he drove it on to his trailer and off he went to drop it off to Wakefield. This was around the time the arse fell out of the EV market . Week later WBAC was offering £10k less !!
Kept an eye on it , and was only recently sold. The price they were asking was about £3k less than they paid ME for it .
revs1972Free MemberNah, punish the Packers family’s, the packer needs to learn but also to keep on packing. If his entire family is dead he’ll have less distractions in his life so can concentrate on his soldering iron searching techniques.
Careful now, you could go to prison for inciting violence like that ;)
revs1972Free MemberBut don’t be surprised if one actually turns up.
what if they send the wrong body ?
revs1972Free MemberTransporter limited to 60/50 on dual / single carriageway
Bonus you can have a cheeky 10 mins parking in loading bays ;)
revs1972Free Memberodd place this. You come on to muse about the disrespect of property in life and are made out to be some middle class **** by that same people that bang on for ages about pizza ovens, electric cars and air fryers.
are you new here ??
I’m with you BTW , I don’t trust security one little bit. They might pass the checks , but some abuse their positions for personal gain ( I don’t have first hand knowledge of this happening in an airport , but do in other walks of life)revs1972Free Memberand I’ve become really quite annoyed that having done the green lantern thing before they didn’t at least make some connection to Reynolds playing Hannibal King in Blade Trinity)
I liked Deadpools reaction when Snipes says there’s only ever going to be one Blade :)
revs1972Free MemberPersonally, now the tunnel has been cancelled, the answer is to put 6’ perforated fencing along the edge of the road, to block the view of the stones –
I had a pretty much clear run from Torbay to Amesbury last Saturday morning , until I got to Stonehenge.
I asked friends who live there why don’t they just put up a fence so you can’t see it from the road ? They seemed to be under the impression it has been discussed , but is deemed not to fit in with the environment . Well, if a £million of fencing ( I know it wouldn’t be as cheap as that, but it could if you really wanted it too * ) would solve the problem, then someone needs to overrule them and allow it .You could run a cycle lane behind it while you were at it
* probably just about cover the consultants fees ?
1revs1972Free MemberOh and damned good work whoever leaked that to the MEN – gives a bit more context and makes sure no one has the moral high ground to get too finger pointy. Should calm things down a bit.
I’m guessing by his comments early on, that Andy Burnham had seen “all” of the footage .
I , like others thought what the copper had done was over the top and an “act of revenge “ after the incident.
Now I have seen the whole footage , and saw that it was part of the same sequence, then I can see he was trying the neutralise the situation the best way he could. With all that shit going on around him , you think he’s going to try putting cuffs on , by himself ??
