I know a lot of people who do. Seems to be a nice inclusive scene and you get paid to ride a bike. Can’t complain. Some of the bikes ridden by some people are ridiculous dross however.

    Thread resurrection.

A set of the alpkit loops on ebay just now. I do think they look prettier than the Jones versions.

great fit. feels great. has lasted a long time.

but the fabric wets out quickly in heavy scottish rain. even reproofing has not made perfect.

Yes, but chain devices aren’t consumables like chainrings.

    I laughed at this bit:

Somewhere along the line his dad is the brother of the ex-husband of the sister of the First Minster’s husband.

He might go around saying he is her nephew but he’s not.

Using liquid yeast made a huge difference to my brewing when i was making beers. Not sure if it’s because liquid yeasts are intrinsically better or that the yeast i was using before was particularly bad however.

Don’t bother. I know the frames are only £89 but it’s one of these things where the costs just snowball. Get a shorter stem for the parkwood to match the reach to what you like and you’ll be right.

what sort of wee kids can afford those?

A cx frame which can be run as a fixed-wheel, with gears, with discs, with v-brakes and with the full complement of braze-ons.

I like rebuilding my bike into different guises. Cross-check/straggler comes close but you then have the choice of disc OR v. NOT both.

    humbug.

    Edit:

oh! and a fork-crown mount for an exposure light. (the exposre brackets are brilliant but only for handlebars.

    Edit2:
and a 27.2 dropper that works!

    what tthew and digger said.

If no luck with the warranty then clean it up as best you can. inject it chock full of long-set epoxy and it’ll be right, it’s how they’re built in the first place.

(someone else with more knowledge may be able to correct me)

Naw, that downtube’s been hydroformed. Not an orange.

It’s a mix and match of halfrauds crap with orange stickers and a (far too short) shock from a different bike

modern mtb style geometry doesn’t really work without the requisite mega wide bars which you get on a modern mtb though.

I second what nobeer says about the living off the reputation thing.

Could try wheelsmith instead of wheelcraft. They’re out by falkirk and have quite a reputation in the cx community.

wider tyres have a lower rolling resistance at the same pressures at the expense of frontal area (aero).

I assume with all the other aero features of f1 cars the frontal area doesn’t matter as much as the airflow can be made as close to laminar as possible through splitters etc. this is conjecture however. I’mm sure someone with more knowledge will be along shortly to answer properly

    3 wheel cargobikes handle terribly.

    Through work I’ve used a:
    Christiania box bike 3 wheeler
    and a converted pedicab

would much rather a two wheeler.
    two wheelers i’ve used are:
    MCR truck (awful thing)
    Bullit bike (awesome thing)

hated my tenn ones. Lasted one ride at the puffer before the arse ripped out of them. I Use Troy Lee Moto’s year round now, not fully waterproof but not an issue and they actually last. screw disposable shorts.

The problem with the solarstorms is that you have ot have a bit of luck whether you get a good one or not.

I’ve opened up 3 of them, all very different inside. I presume because it’s only the casing that is the solarstorm part and they’re getting fitted out inside by different manufacturers with different electronics inside. (Chinese manufacturing innit)

of the 3 the first i had was brilliant, the two i have had since have been terrible.

Worth going for a light from someone who will back up their product. I just bought an mtb light from torchy off ebay and a spare battery.

    850lumen from a single LED, a re-celled 5200mah waterproof battery and a smaller backup battery for £60

Yes I cannot see how all that metalwork on the fork makes any difference.

2nd moment of area, tubes at a distance. parallel axis theorem. innit.

the upper legs stop the point of max bending being focused at the lower headset race, the same thing that a triple crown dh fork does.

    Mine was cheap(ish) 2nd hand : )

I keep wanting to reply to this, but don’t want to feed the trolls.

I have a Jones, I like it; I have other bikes, I like them too; but the Jones is definately the most adaptable of the lot.

Re: Jameso with regard to BB to handlebar.

This is the thing that defines how a bike feels out of the saddle and hammering it on the pedals. The on-trend bikes (geometron) seem to miss this fundamental point, while the more conservative ones feel better in this regard. The winch up and plummet down mindset I understand, but how many bikes for us mortal folk don’t get pedalled towards the techy stuff?

Yep, it switches on the third and fourth as you start riding faster. It works fine.

Jones bars are hideous, so are these.

I really love the loop section on my jones bars, i just wish the non-loop had less sweep 45degrees is waay too much for off road.

I like what they’ve done here, I’ll certainly be buying some for testing.

short reach and high stack due to the rotated body position makes the frame very chuckable.

The shortest CS being best length is a misconception.
