    👏🏻what a turnaround by mercedes!

I expect both Red Bull and Mclaren will be faster on race pace but still, brilliant job by the engineers.

Amazing how close the fight at the front is in quali now,  Hamilton was only 3 tenths back but starts 6 places behind. 😳

That wasn’t a Microsoft problem.  If anything it was the opposite.

It was the hardware co’s fault for writing bad drivers, and it was worth the pain long term to improve the architecture, but how the **** did microsoft release an OS primarily used in offices, where pretty much every printer/scanner is broken in one way or another? Surely you’d work with your main OEMs to ensure it’s working at day one? 🤷🏻‍♂️

You had this ludicrous situation where not only was your new laptop massively slower at some tasks than the one that was 3 years old, but also the GUI would randomly disappear and reappear several seconds later and your printer/scanner became just a printer and would no longer print double sided.

    It was a ludicrous situation.

Well you know the IP address of the printer then? You should be able to just run

    Bag of rice, airing cupboard?

After a long wait that will deliver a warm device full of rice dust. The best thing to do with any electronic device exposed to liquid is not to turn it back on if it goes off, switch it off if it hasn’t shut down, take a hoover and go around any openings in the case, making a seal with your hand as best you can, and suck the liquid back out. Do that for a couple of minutes and it’ll likely be good to go.

…being careful not to suck any of the keys off the keyboard !

Any snow foam tips please – just using tne spray bottle that came with my little Nilfisk, and wanting a better, thicker coverage.

That bottle wont get good results, use a proper snow foam lance with an adjuster.
    example:
Also I totally agree with the Bilt Hamber recommendation, their stuff is the (sparkly clean) dogs dingle dangles.

The issue i’ve had with tesla’s one pedal driving is when it can’t regen, it gives you a bit of a surprise by not slowing down when you lift off the gas!

To my mind the car should always act the same regardless of whether the battery is cold/too full etc.

Russell is a whingeing cockbag who crashes too often (although it should have been a red flag)

Penalising Alonso for clever, defensive driving was harsh.

It was classic smart alonso driving except in this case, a) he **** the manouvre up which the stewards considered eratic b) he did so in a very fast part of the track which the stewards considered dangerous.
It’s covered in the FIA doc here
I’m certain he knew he’d **** it as well, hence the ‘engine troubles’

Gutted for the female loser this week,  seems like if she’d have taken a few seconds to catch her breath before the travellator she would have done it easily!

Shit quality and service seems endemic in the industry.

Deffo, I have an Argos/habitat sofa. Can’t remember what the full price was but it was reduced to £700. They **** up the first delivery but the second was okay.

About 1 year later I noticed one of the legs was wonky, so I unpicked the staples and had a look inside. It seems to be made of something like balsa wood chipboard. It weighs nothing, you can crack bits off it easily with your hands and surprise surprise, there are cracks and splits all over it.

    .

He was trying to manipulate where Hamilton passed so as to get DRS on him to retake the lead. Hamilton didn’t come past, he slowed more. Neither of them knew what the other was doing.

I’ll bet thats what the stewards find

Possibly but there is or used to be at least, a rule whereby you may not immediately retake the position. I vaguely recall Kimi doing it a few years back.

But why offer it – there’s a rule book!

I think as the other poster mentioned, by convention the drivers get a chance to give the place back prior to the stewards getting involved. I’ve never heard anything like that during a red flag however.

I have a very well paying (whole industry is overpaid in my opinion) job in the City and even I’ve cringed. Two standard admission tickets, plus parking, before spending a penny – best part of £500. Appreciate it’s flagged as rich man’s sport but seems a bit out of touch.

It’s expensive but it sells out, so arguably priced correctly from their point of view.

Last time i looked you can get good tickets in Hungary plus flight for less than half that.

BTW anyone bovvered about Lando moving to Monaco? At least he’s openly admitting it’s for financial reasons rather than making up some baloney about it being a good base for European races or whatever

It’s legal so it comes down purely to morals and it slightly grates on me that the people who can pay uk tax and still bank millions and live a very luxurious lifestyle instead bugger off and pay as little tax as possible as soon as they can.

Specifically to Lando it’s also in bad taste after doing his “thank you key workers” schtick a few races back.

Anyway. Got that off my chest finally! On with the racing

Why, yet again was Bottas pottering round in 11 Ty for so long? He made a lousy start and then didn’t seem interested in doing anything about it until toto gave him the hurry up

Yes it was very bottas. To be kind maybe the plan was to tyre save to go long.

On McLaren, Danny ric said they had some kind of problem which meant they spent the whole race fuel saving. Not sure if that was just him or both cars.

He’s second with a few rounds still to go and has 2 or 3 wins hasn’t he? That’s not too shabby. he’s also a F1 test driver IIRC. But yeah, It won’t hurt the marketing to have the first Chinese driver in your team

Yeah but that’s not a brilliant achievement when it’s your third go at it after being trounced by your teammates twice.

Image sharing is ok. Just beware of WhatsApp’s tendency to dump every shared image into your own personal photos album* at which point it becomes a grey area.

Close family member ran foul of that – now has a conviction and is on the sex offenders register for life having had unwanted WhatsApp images shared by his rugby club group store themselves locally. Only handed his phone voluntarily to police so they could scan it after he himself was assaulted in a pub & 18mths later we have social services calling us to say he cannot be around our kids.

*you can disable this easily, but it’s on by default.

Just underlines the advice i was once given to never trust or voluntarily speak to the police.

Yep, we get this. They check all the car doors and the new thing is stealing plants from people’s doorsteps (bay/olive trees etc) 🤷‍♂️

In our case it seems to happen in waves across the town, then nothing for months. Probably the same group of lowlifes travelling from town to town across the region.

This might be of interest, it shows the relative sizes of various ships. JMC Red Dwarf is on the lower left, star trek stuff is upper right side.

I’m glad they’ve done something about the right click menu, it’s a mess in 10 with too many items on it. Right-clicking a PDF for example gives 22 options on my current PC.

That said I think i’ll let the brave souls do a bit more beta testing before I switch. 😉

Yep 23.5 is pretty unbearable for me, I’ll go and stand in the back garden just to be able to breathe some evenings during Autumn/Winter. Thyroid issues with a side-order of menopause so she REALLY feels the cold. Unfortunately, she is also impervious to logic and putting another layer or 2 on is too much to ask so I’ll just wait for the inevitable explosion when the gas bill comes in at which point she will also be impervious to the logic of “it’s a lot of money because you run the heating at a temperature roughly akin to that seen at the heart of a star”

Maybe an infrared heater aimed just at her would be a better solution. Worked for mrs 83’s gran who had previously complained of being cold with the thermostat set to 27 (!!) and wearing a dress, jumper and coat.

Does look a bit shit though.

On a circuit that favoured a newly faster Mercedes, Hamilton was beaten in a pretty straight fight both by Verstappen on the road and the strategy in the pits. If I were Toto, or Hamilton, I’d be worried.

From the moment Lewis got in front of Max, it was always going to be strategically difficult to win the race due to the strong undercut, especially with Checo having good pace and Bottas being back in the midfield. Mercs options were limited.

As far as I can tell the Merc and RedBull cars are still very close on pace, with the RB having just a slight edge.

The RB seems significantly better in dirty air though, Max was able to follow Hamilton quite closely for a surprising number of laps before his tyres went off. He did still kill them but it took longer than I’d have expected.

Also one other point, i’m not Max’s biggest fan but his drive really was quite exceptional yesterday. I didn’t see many mistakes at all from him in terms of lock ups etc despite his old tyres and pressure from hamilton approaching DRS range towards the last few laps.

What happened to Bottas? Bit lacklustre from him

He’s not a great overtaker and as I mentioned above the W12 seems relatively weak following closely. I think he’s kinda checked out since the engine penalty a few races back.
