I have a Kona Minute and have to say it is brilliant. IT has a hamax seat fitted to the back instead of the deck. It really is a useful bike. I commute every day on it and at the weekend get out with the little un. Fast as a road bike but solid and stable for carrying loads.

I have a Carver 96er and love it. I have had lots of other bikes but always pull this one out of the shed first. The EBB was a problem to start with but was fixed. (The shell had deformed when manufactured. Had it bored out and a sleeve made for the original ebb and never had a problem since. ) It is set up rigid ss and rides really well. The front wheel does roll over stuff well and the short rear end makes it turn on a sixpence. :-)

I Had the same issue on a Kona Minute and went for Claris 8spd shifters.
They work very well and shift so much better than 105 and ultegra 10spd set ups i have on my road and cx bike The gear cables stick out the side of the shifter and are not bent under the bar tape so it may not look as swish but works better. I have had them on for a year now and done 6K miles and have to say they are great. 8 Spd is still here and will be for a long time so buy with confidence.

I had a Van Nic frame go on me this year (second time)and they swapped it (again) without a question.
I had to send it back to there adress in holland and within days they had contacted me to ask what i wanted to relace it with.
There Customer service was good but dont think I will by another Ti frame.
Have a Alu Giant now which is cheaper, lighter and bought from a local shop so i dont have to post it back to holland when it breaks

Rents, what ratio do you use and 26″ or 29″??

If im riding around thetford or somewhere similar im on 32/15. Rode 32/16 at Ballyhora last weekend and will probably stay the same for pippingford. thats on a 26″ rear wheel.

I race my SS in xc races and compete with the geared guys. I love the simplicity and lack of maintenance required.
Use, abuse, hose off and shove it away. I got 2 years out of a chain and rings!
If you like to ride and not to fussed about where you come, go for it :0)
PS if your down south, the SS champs are in two weeks time at Pippingford. worth coming to have a look

Most phones that have this app use the telphone masts in the area to locate your postion, through triangulation. If the phone looses signal from one mast the phones acuarracy is compromised.
the same happens with GPS based systems. The more satelites they can triangulate off of the more accurate a position they give you.
GPS based systems are effected by weather, especially thick cloud cover. This slows down the signal to the unit which will affect location, mapping, speed etc.
the 500 does come with a wheel based sensor so it uses the best of both systems. hope this helps :0)

i have a spesh allez, bought 5 years ago for £450 new. The most used bike i have ever had. It was bottom of the range with Sora 16 speed but still works perfectly.
Reckon they are only £550ish now for a similar spec. Really good value.

MTG, are you using shims on your frames/ seatposts? If so, this will be the reason the for frame(s) failing, im sure of it. They dont spread the load well and result in the seatpost moving about in the seatube alot more only being held in place by the seatclamp.
With regards to Ti frames, I reckon they are ok if you ride tow paths and smooth trails.
I have broken two TI frames in 12 months. Although they are guarenteed for life its a ball ache sending them back to be assessed and replaced.
So for a guy like yourself i would suggest getting a frame from either Specilized or Giant from you local Bike shop. There warrenty replacement is brilliant. :0)

I do like the look of the AC wheels and they do seem good value for money.I have seen alot of AC wheels about this year and to be fair not heard anything bad yet. Charlie, how do the hubs hold up to uk conditions? are they as good as hope?
The wheelset will be going on a Steel inbred 29er with a set of rigid carbon forks so will take a bit of a hammering :0)

Niner carboni upgraded to a set of these and cant ever imagine why i would put suspension forks back on. the weight you save is outstanding and they flex so much over the rough stuff. they are expensive for a rigid fork but still half the price of a suspension set up. :0)

only problem i have found with my spesh comp shoes is the little phillips head screw that holds the top strap on, on the inside of the shoes eats crank arms quickly! my feet float alot meaning all my cranks have big grooves in um :0(
Apart from that, great shoe. normally wear a pair of seal skins with um as they are very well ventilated.

What was the frame Number? will keep my eyes open in the peterborough area ;0)
Think Ebay should make sellers list the frame numbers on bikes/frames before they can be sold. Same for the classifieds on here. People must be buying these stolen bikes else there wouldnt be a market for them.
List the frame numbers or get your add deleted?

I have the same problem on my 08 Spesh stumpy FSR. The crank arm very slightly rubs the front mech when in the big ring. I have fiddled with the hi stop but then struggle to get the gear. It is anoying but i just live with it now as i cant see a way around it :0(
