We live up in Moray. It’s great. It has everything we need and good transport links. The riding is good Road/MTB and weather is very good.
Having moved up from lincs/cambs area it is warmer in the winter which is hard to believe but not as hot in the summer. Just nice really.

we are pricing up battery storage for when we get a solar system fitted. we are seriously looking at getting a E car with push pull technology instead of a battery system. For example, the VW Buzz ID comes with a 77Kwh battery! I understand the cost is a lot more but it seems better value for money than a stand alone battery.

we camped at Glen nevis this weekend. It was great. The pub/restaurant near the site is good too. We will be going back to explore more.

Great to see you again! Do you still have your Orange Sub? That was a nice bike.

I really enjoyed it😀 the course was tough but fun. It was the first time I had zip tied a number on in 8yrs after entering two weeks ago to help out a local charity Outfit Moray who deliver Adventure training an Bike Ability across moray.https://www.gofundme.com/manage/neils-10-hour-shift-for-outfit-moray
It went really well. I just sat in for the ride and in the end came 2nd in the sole vet cat with 10 laps😂
My Garmin has short changed me though. When I look at the course profile the two big climbs get shorter each from lap 3 onwards?
Overall a great day on the bike and hopefully it will be back next year 👍

im riding around for ten hours on Saturday. I hope the weather is kind. It should be as Mountain mayhem is on the same time and that event always summons the entire UK’s quota of rain

We had a loan of a Cube hybrid cargo at work last summer for 7 weeks. It was ace! I took it home numerous times and the kids loved it. It will easily take a full weeks shopping and carry the kids anywhere in comfort.
The trial was so successful the company has invested in 2 standard E bikes, 2 cargo hybrids and 2 cargo E trikes to trial😍

I found cutting out sugar, giving up booze and strong coffe and sticking to a routine has helped.
I now only have a real coffee before a hard training session which is an amazing feeling. The power of caffeine is great when you use it sparingly 😀
Not eating after 6pm as well.

Fwiw it’s halfed our bill year to date. 225kwh generated in Feb alone.

What size system did you have installed?

So the property is approx 130m2, 1980,s bungalow up near Inverness. It has suspended floors which need insulating but everything else is good regards insulation and double glazing.
    House is SSW facing.
Initially we were planning to get a solar set up to do the general elec and install a new unvented tank with Emersion heaters that could run off the OF boiler and Solar panels.
It’s only now that the oil tank needs replacing that were thinking it would be a good time to upgrade the whole system instead of sinking cash into a new tank set up.
    Hmmm

    Ours went up a lot.
Solar systems! Talk to me STW! I am loving the idea of fitting a system but not the SEG payment of 5p kWh for paying back in when I think we buy it from SSE at 35p per kwh.
When I do the calcs it seems close to break even with the chance of a slight saving.
The idea of less reliance and price fluctuation still makes it appealing though.

An easy way to check is to put a slight over pressure in the frame and squirt soapy water on it.

Centre stands are very good when it comes to loading and unloading the kids. I used to keep a piece of cord or bungee to hand to lash the bike up loosely to stop it toppling once loaded with a kid. That enabled me to load the kids then sort last minute gaff saf3 in 5he knowledge they wouldn’t tip the bike over.
Now the kids have grown up the ctr stand is still on. I couldn’t be without it.

I would check the rotor mount on the hub also. If you can get hold of a dti, remove the rotor and re insert the wheel and check run out of the face the rotor mounts too. A couple of thou at the hub is mm’s throw at the disc circumfrence

Are we all pretending you can’t claim travel on expenses or have the company pre-book?

I don’t think so. I could get a train, plane or hire car on expenses but if the opportunity arouse to ride it would it be wrong to do so?

Getting to Cardiff is, doing so by bicycle is clearly for enjoyment.

Is it wrong to enjoy a mode of transport? I would enjoy riding over driving and definitely more enjoyable than flying and train (in the current climate.

I find stem cells and the like better than back pockets on long rides. I seem to jar or cramp my shoulder muscles when delving into rear jersey pockets.

Positive outcome meaning relaxed travel restrictions not catching covid.

Every point received is valid and taken in. I suppose it’s my take on what’s reasonable that needs adjusting. Pre Covid I would have done it without a question or doubt. Having The doubt has raised the question which has bought on a good debate. The likely hood is that the visit will be cancelled but work always plan for the positive outcome the adjust accordingly.

With regards to 8 days cycling time, time on site would be Monday to Friday with a weekend on each end plus one days travel each end only requires one extra day Each end at the good will of my employer.

“It’s only a mad idea from the mindset that it’s not a viable form of travel. As long as a safe route is chosen I can’t see how it’s more dangerous than public transport.”
This is my take. For me my bike is the daily choice of transport. Anywhere I need to go it gets me there.

Sorry, I thought “ride down” would be apparent. Ok, I take the advice onboard. I could carry all my needed stuff (food)but the justification is main thing. Is it morally right? But then again is it right that my employers ask me to go. Perhaps In my mind I had jûstified it on this basis.

I think I will get planning. I should be able to ride it in 4 days. 5 days work then 4 days back. It’s the first real goal of the year! I can’t wait.

The small reassess where the pawls sit wear. They elongate which starts to cause engagement issues. I have resurrected a steel one tonight with new pawls and springs but need a new(er) one if possible.

I think that’s the route (separate mic) that the mrs will go. Start off with iPhone/Camo and then look at getting a webcam if needed at a later date.

Reincubate Do a good comparison on their web page but I am aware that they want you to use an iPhone, but in fairness the camera on a iPhone is very good. WRT mic’s the blue snowball looks good.

You can do it, just take your time and don’t push the pace to often. With regards to gear, invest in your commuter set up. Top end group sets won’t last any longer than lower end. I run 8spd Claris and it’s faultless. It’s done 6+ years of what your doing. Full length mudguards all year round with a spray flap on the front. Panniers if you can. Ortlieb are worth the extra money, just for the ease of loading and unloading. Once your set up it’s just personnel motivation. I use the thought of money saved and fitness gained.

Can you post a picture of the defect? I could probably do it. What series alloy is it?

I would get it as a frame only on build up with bits and bobs. True, a old hard tail would do the job. Something like a rockhopper 29er. But it needs to have the rack mounts. So, £600 frame and fork isnt cheap but neither is it astronomical in this day and age.
What else is out there with 135mm rear end, braise on’s, standard threaded bb? It might all be old standard but it works.

I quite like the 135mmish rear end as all the bikes I have still have this. Im still on 8 and 9 spd😂
