Just to follow up on this ….

Received my bleed kit and started to bleed it from the caliper up.

Was feeling really nice and the lever and then all of a sudden I heard a squirt.

One of the pistons is leaking fluid everywhere when I press the lever.

Can’t see any reason why it would be bit I’m glad it failed on the bike stand and not on the trail.

I was using a proper Shimano bleed block so can’t see why it’s done what it has.

I’ve ordered a new caliper so hopefully that will be fine.

How much fluid will a rear brake hold from completely empty? will 50ml be enough?

I wander if its just easier to stick it into a shop to do as to do it myself I need to buy the fluid and the correct bleed kit.

I guess coming from a military background and knowing the only way you got a demotion was if you did something wrong has skewed my veiw somewhat.

Afterall it isn’t my mother’s fault she has cancer.

I believe her job was pre op assessment which a lot of is being done online.

She is a member of the Union and is waiting to here back from them.

Her cancer consultant has gone absolutely nuts.

She can do pretty much all of her job remotely apart from running a shift.

The laptop they have goiven her to do the job hasn’t been loaded with the correct programs to do it and my mom has told her boss this numerous times and she has done nothing about it.

This is still ongoing although I did think I was getting somewhere……

Had an email saying that as a goodwill gesture they were going to arrange to get the part sent out to me so that I can get on riding my bike. In that email they said that they had informed the shop and to call them to arrange delivery.

I duly phoned the shop a couple of days after only to be told they didnt know anything about it and that they would contact the Orbea Rep to find out what was going on.

I replied to the lady from Orbea saying the shop werent aware and now she has replied this morning they will send the shop the prices so I can pay for the part.

So they have gone from saying it will be a good will gesture to now saying I need to pay…….

    A chainstay is £360 and thats with a 50% discount !!!!!

No examples sorry and maybe I’m getting confused?

Surely current stack heights are bigger due to the bottom bracket being lower on the LLS bikes.

I’ve found to get comfy on a LLS bike I’ve needed quite a high rise bar due to the front end feeling a lot lower than I’m normally use too. Judging by some of the comments I’ve seen online Im not the only one.

Im happy to be corrected though.

^^Thus proving my point, Low refers to Bottom Bracket height, nothing to do with Stack Height.

Agreed, however generally the stack heights tend to be lower too.

Anyway I didnt offer any advice just expressed my own feelings on the LLS and why it didnt suite me:)

Neither you Steve, more people saying they don’t understand something, yet offering advice on it.

    Probably means me :)

Its ok I wont get offended but first let me try and explain….

LLS to me means shorter stack heights compared to non LLS bikes. So to me when I’m going down something steep on a LLS bike the bars are quite low compared to how I like them on a non LLS bike.

Horses for courses though isnt it. Some people like the bars low, others dont!

You see lots of people adding really high rise bars to LLS bike to try and counter the effect

Wow, it must be much worse than it looks then! Where does the movement come from? I thought with just an extra washer to account for the missing c clip it would be solid with it all torqued up. I can’t see where the movement would come from.

The cup that the axle screws into wont sit correctly as it is fouling where the circlip sat and as such there is about 3-5mm of play causing the brake to rub etc

Just press a new bearing in and ride it. It will make the waiting much less frustrating.

I did this but rear end is so loose due to the piece that fits over the bearing that the bolt through axle goes into not sitting flush with the new bearing due to the damage. I dont want to damage anything else by riding with an extremely loose rear end.

    Just to update:

    Still waiting for prices!!

I messaged Orbea on twitter and got some curt responses back saying it was being dealt with and that I had received emails telling me as such.

No such emails have been received.

Ive emailed Damian Hackett and he hasnt replied.

Orbea have told me that the case was opened on the 6th sept and was being processed and from now on I need to deal with the shop?? I sent the email to the shop requesting prices on the 23rd August so why has it taken so long to get registered with Orbea.

So if it was raised on the 6th which was last monday what is a reasonable time to wait for prices?

Not this time mate. I’m missing out on riding at the moment when I actually want to be out riding 🥺

I had thought about that but I didnt want to do anymore damage to anything. Plus I dont think a bearing will go in now without damaging it.

Just spoke to the shop again after speaking with them Monday.

Apparently they are still waiting to hear back from Orbea.

The person that was handling Orbea warranty issues has apparently moved to a different department and its taking some time for the new guys to get up to speed.

This is getting beyond a joke now. Once I get the prices and order the parts Ive still got to wait however long it takes them to come from Spain.

Do any of you have any details for people at Orbea I can actually speak to??

Ive tried the contact form on the website, Ive emailed the uk email address with no reply. Ive tagged the uk/Ireland head of orbea in a post on Twitter all to no avail.

I bet you will be much happier on the Whyte,

I dont understand the LLS thing, I dont like the feeling of being so far over the bars on descents.

I had a Whyte S150crs and found that to be an excellent bike. The only niggle was the length of the seat tube, would have been better a cm or so shorter.

Haha I wish I’d been that stupid.

I was using a proper press but didn’t see the circlip on that bearing

    @damascus

Basically I was pressing out the bearings to replace with the new ones and missed a circlip covering one of the bearings and have done this to the chainstay…..

Totally wrecked the groove the circlip sat in.

@lucky7500 I did email them direct but had no reply yet.

I’ve used the contact us form on the website but their reply is that the dealer is dealing with the bearing replacement.

    @mrhoppy

Bike is only 4 months old and covered 184 miles. Bearings should last longer than that surely

    @lunge

No mate I’m not trying to get the rear end on warranty. I’ve said it was my mistake and am qquite happy to pay for it.

The new bearings are part of the warranty but they haven’t arrived yet.

Orbea offer a 50% crash replacement for the first year.

I’m just after prices because if the carbon rear end is in my price range I will upgrade to that.

I feel like I’m getting the run around from the shop to be honest especially as another poster has said that shops will have the SKU for the parts so will know prices already.

No other local orbea dealer wants to know.

Orbea just keep saying speak with the dealer you got the bike from

Is over two weeks acceptable time to find out prices for parts ?

    renton
    Free Member

Initially it was/is a warranty issue as there was lots of play in the rear end which turned out to be worn bearings.

Orbea have supposedly sent out a bearing kit mid August bit that hasn’t appeared yet. This has been going on since the 9th August now.

Whilst pressing the bearings out I managed to miss a circlip covering one of the bearings damaging the chainstay.

The shop had the details and the request for frame parts on the 23rd August.

I’m more than happy to pay. Just need to know prices.

Ive found the guy above on linkedin but need premium mail to be able to message him.

Also found him on Facebook but dont really want to message him there.

I also dont want it to feel like Im pestering the shop. two emails over the past 2 weeks is enough right?

I did 3 tours of Afghanistan whilst in the RAF, was sat 100 metres away from where the battle of bastion happened.

I’ve sat and watched the MERT cab lift of at all times of the day collecting wounded or dead soldiers and bringing them back to the hospital on camp.

I’ve seen the looks on my mates faces after they have been sent out to collect parts of other soldiers that have been blown up.

I’ve also seen the aftermath when back in the UK and guys have had no support after dealing with some of the things they saw over there.

Tonight, sat here in my lounge feeling sick to the pit of my stomach wondering how it all came to this and really…. What was the **** point.

RIP to all of those service personnel that lost their lives.

Let’s also not forget all of the Afghan people that lost their lives too.

It all makes me feel incredibly sad.

He wants nothing more for you to actually enjoy riding your bike rather than whinging about not enjoying riding it on the internet…

I’m actually enjoying riding at the moment mate. Was out with Zippy at the weekend up the Wyre. Lovely and dry currently.

I’m all for testing myself but know Rich is another level of braveness to me currently 😂

There’s a real mix of trails at Staunton, it can be as flowy or as steep and techy as you want to make it. It’s a superb place for ride progression, anyone who knows the trails well enough can make a progressive loop to start with the less challenging trails and build up to the techier stuff as the ride progresses.

Rich has offered to take me, think he just wants to see me smash myself up ;)

I had a Bfe max and loved it.
Ran it with a 150mm pike which I then extended to 160mm. 2.6 tyres gave it a great bit of cushioning.

It was a brilliant ride but ultimately I felt the large for me was slightly to small. I’m 6 foot 1.

The XL would have been good to try but they sold out almost instantly.

Can’t comment on the pole. I did look at them but heard too many horror stories about poles warranty.

Another option would be the Orange P7 29.

If it helps (probably not but 🤷‍♂️) I find the newer lls bikes a bit tricky in tighter and twisty single-track and I still can’t get used to riding them.

Fair play to you Weeksy for analysing stuff rather than just selling it like I do 😄

Hardtail would be fine for most of it apart from the breaking bumps into all the hairpins where you will need at least 6″ travel front and rear. They were brutal on Sunday when I went 😃

So the saddles on both bikes are exactly the same material just a different pattern.

The only difference I can think it may be down too (clutching at straws to be honest) is that my current bike has a steeper seat angle compared to any of my previous bikes and I do find myself trying to shuffle back to be further behind the BB ?? pervious bikes have all been around the 74 degree mark where this current one is 76.

    Could that be it?

    To answer a few questions….

I normally get the black leather covered model but they are all sold out.

These are rougher fabric type material.

Not sure if they are available in different widths.

Saddle level set with spirit level very slightly nose down.

Shorts and liner the same as I always wear.

    It’s very bizarre

Another alternative is the crank brothers synthesis wheels.

I had a set of the emtb models on my bike and couldn’t fault them.

Will be getting another set when I can afford them.

@trail rat: where did you get the info on the wheel weights.

You’d think the PR2 would be lighter as it’s the better wheel?

Ok so I’m not going to be saving loads weight wise but what about rolling resistance from the bearings. The giants don’t seem to spin for that long.

    I’ve seen these ….

    https://www.cycledivision.co.uk/wheels/disc-brake-wheelset/cero-ar30-disc-alloy-clincher-wheelset

Had a set of AR 24 on a previous bike and they seemed decent enough so was considering these.

Just been out to check and I actually have giant sr2 disc wheels ?

Are these just as heavy ?

    Ah ok found them now.

Is there much difference between the spline 23 and the spline 32.

Which would be better for a heavier rider ?
