Been and collected the car today. Very happy with how we were treated by VW. The whole process was very smooth and the car is absolutely lovely to drive.

    Just to update this thread.

We went and had another look at the white one that I had concerns about and decided that the little niggles weren’t to bad. The discs had been cleaned up and it test drove really well.

Unfortunately we noticed that the bumper had been really poorly repaired so that, combined with the fact the fact there was only one key and also the dealer wasn’t willing to do the cambelt, put us off.

We then went to see a couple more, one was decent looking outside but inside was completely mouldy, I mean absolutely covered in it.

The newest one we looked at was at Evans halshaw and was battered. Same age as our Octavia but looked like it had had a hard life.

We finally found a nice clean one at VW that was in budget. Paid a bit more but got two years warranty and a few other things added too. It drove lovely and had obviously been looked after.

    Collect it next Saturday.

Nothing to add about the cars you are looking at other than to say if it’s a Tiguan you are looking at then don’t write of the Seat Ateca ( I am on my 2nd) which is basically the same car and may give you options or save a few ££s (skoda karoq too).

That’s interesting. I thought they were smaller inside than the Tiguan. Will Habe a look

Were you flying them around 2004/2005?

We had to go to Al Udied and then onto Iraq via Herc.

I was also stationed at Akrotiri on VHAS from 05-08 so may have crossed paths.

This reminds me of being on the back of a herc going into Basra doing a tactical landing.

Quite an interesting flight that was😃

Also reminds me of watching a special “k” taking off from Basra so low that it barely cleared the airport perimeter fence !!

Keep the VRS. That Tiguan is silly money for a less practical interior and worse driving experience than your Octy.

I thought the interior looked bigger to be honest. The boot was a decent size and was massive when the seats were down.

I’m after something with a higher driving position and a bit slower plus better on fuel

The discs were raised as an advisory on the MOT before the last one but strangely not on the last MOT.

They look quite bad to be honest.

Just been and had a look at this one and whilst it was a lovely car there were too many niggly things wrong with it to go ahead.

    Cracked rear tyres
    Corroded discs front and back
Scratches over the plastic armrest inside
A dent in the rear number
A dent in the passenger side cill cover

Other than that it was great.

Wife has a 68 plate standard wheelbase SEL 2.0tdi 4motion 150bhp. Can take a full suss bike with the front wheel off and the seatpost down. Very capable car, decent driving position and high 40s to 50+ mpg depending on use. The Allspace model is longer, same load length & oily bits as a Skoda Kodiaq.

Its a non 4 motion model Im looking at which are meant to be a bit better on fuel so that should be good.

Bonus that the bikes fits in too.

I tried a pair of the Salomon ultra mid gtx 4 but found them slightly too narrow for me. Perfect in every other way.

I’ve ended up with a pair of Scarpa Cyrus mid. Lovely boot.

I use one of the original Moon Shield’s.

Really bright and has lasted years.

Will upgrade to the newest one when this eventually dies.

    Cheers all.

Been to Cotswold outdoor today and tried quite a few pairs on.

Ended up with a pair of Scarpa Cyrus mid gtx.

Felt Uber comfy from the off and no heel lift. Will wear them round the house for a bit to see if they loosen up etc.

Thanks for all the a suggestions.

I phoned up HASTINGS DIRECT Customer service to find out what was going on. The lady sounded as shocked as me and promised to look into it and phone me back within the hour. That was at half two……. Still waiting.

Well this is just getting weirder by the minute !!!

Just had an email from my insurer saying there has been a change to my policy and to log in to see the changes.

On logging in there is a letter saying due to the recent changes to my policy there is an increase of premium of £86. On looking at my policy they have already added this incident as an at fault claim !!!

How can they do that ????

Thanks for all the replies so far.

Just to update… Ive been onto my insurance this morning after sending in lots of photos of my car to show the condition and also show its never been crashed.

I also catagorically denied being in any sort of accident and suggested the claim may be fraudulent.

The claimants people have laready phoned or emailed my insurance this morning trying to rush me into admitting liability.

My insurance have told them I dont accept liability and that they need to show evidence of my car being in the crash and witness statements etc.

    Fingers crossed.

At the time I working in West Bromwich for a company that I left in March and has since shut down so no joy there either.

Thinking about it If I had hit a car then surely the front of my car would have signs of being repaired. It still has the original supplying dealer number plate on and Ive managed to photo the dates on the headlights too.

Cheers all, to answer a few questions:

Ive logged into my insurance account and the claim is logged on there.

Ive also contacted my insurers via the number on the website and they confirmed. Apparently they have been given my reg and make and model but no colour.

The street is Hawthorn street in Springborn Glasgow. I supposedly pulled out of a side street into another car.

Bank statement/ credit card no joy. no purchases on that date.

Front door cam doesn’t go that far back either.

Bloke from my insurance was really bloody rude and basically insinuated I need to prove that I wasnt there not the other way round.

I had a Buzzrack E scorpion up until a few weeks back.

Solid bot of kit, designed to accommodate bikes with long wheelbases.

Really easy to fit and very sturdy. clamp had a built in lever to tighten which was good.

    Highly recommended.

Could be either. I guess you’re assuming massive bottom outs?

    Not necessarily on bottom outs.

It tends to happen when I hit a rut or big root.

Yesterday I fitted a 170mm airshaft and removed two of the 3 volume reducers and give everything a good clean.

I’ve been up FOD today and it feels loads better. Coped really well with all the roots on freeminers.

I will give it a few more rides to bed in and go from there.

    :) Good skills lol

So do I need to make the fork slower to rebound?

    renton

I had a wild FS and really liked it.

I’m 186cm and had an XL which fitted well.

I fitted a 170mm airshaft to the fork just to raise the front a bit.

It was a great bike and inspired me to ride stuff I was scared of trying before.

The only thing that put me off it was how flexy the rear end was. It always felt like the rear tyre was low and moving about.

There has been lots of reports of chainstays cracking on the aluminium frames and could see why. With the rear brake applied you could physically see the stay bending slightly.

If you are a lighter rider you may find it fine. If you are over 105kgs then you may want to get the full carbon version or a different bike.

I’ve now moved to a 2022 levo expert.

I think you may have to cut a hole in the valance of the bumper to get the swan neck through.

I had a fixed ball on my vrs estate and used a Buzzrack E-Scorpion rack. Lots of room when it was tilted back.

I have nothing against people that smoke. Each to their own and all that.

It’s just that I don’t want to be smelling in in my house because the company next door didnt provide a smoking area for their workers to use. There is plenty of space down the side of the building where they could situate one and it would effect anyone then.

The point is though, you bought an end terrace with a lane and presumably land awaiting development adjacent to it?.

It’s not a lane and I was quite aware of what was there when I bought my house and what was going to be built there.

We have no issues with noise or anti social behaviour. In fact as I pointed out in my first post the new build has greatly improved the look of the area.

Initially they were all smoking down the alleyway between us right outside my back gate and dumping all the fag butts everywhere. I went over and pointed that out and they agreed it wasn’t on and told all staff that they needed to walk to the bottom of the alleyway which is about 60metres and smoke in the open space at the bottom. That worked for a bit until new staff started and it started getting darker and colder when they started just using the bin store instead.

People don’t tend to congregate on the pavement to smoke that’s the difference.

This is the bin store where they are smoking. Our bedroom is top left.

Shouldn’t I be able to have my window open without having to worry about the house stinking of cigarettes. It’s blooming awful. It seems like most of the staff are smoking in there.

We had our kitchen done late last year and eventually finished in Jan this year.

This included so structural works knocking two rooms into one big room of 7m x 2.85m

    * removing original outside wall and supplying beams
    * moving entrance into under stair cupboard from one room to another
    * new ceilings
    * new electrics and plumbing
    * whole room plastered
    * Supply and fit Hacker kitchen
    * Supply and fit quartz worktops
    * Supply and fit Karndean flooring
    * All white goods (Mix of hotpoint and neff)

    This cost us £23.5k

I’ve had two bikes with the Bosch gen 4 and 625 battery. As a heavy unfit rider I could get around 25 miles around my local woods using eco and tour.

Had my first ride yesterday on my new bike that has the brose motor and 700 battery. Same trails as before and not ridden in two months. I did just under 22 miles mainly in trail with a bit of turbo towards the end and finsihed with 40% battery.

Ah so that is what it will be @Tracey.

My brakes came on the bike so I didn’t get a yellow bleed block with them. Had to go searching in my spare parts and found this. I’m guessing it’s for an older caliper then.

    Dammit.

    renton

Yeah definitely. I took that out as I was bleeding up from the caliper.

It’s felt really good and I was thinking how easy it was and they pfft…. Brake fluid all over the floor.

Are there different yellow bleed blocks you can get ? Mine is pretty old but fitted correctly but not fully over each piston. Just wondering if the piston has come out on the squiff.
