Booo i cant make… but i am sending my mum along. I think she could be a contender for oldest entry of the series spot prize.
RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberIt was a Rallon 10 which I think looks ok in a sort of La Pierre kind of way?
RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberThanks for the opinions, but what are they like comparable with other brands i.e Specialized and Trek etc. and (not that I’m bothered) but the coolness factor! Pretty sure I’m going to go for it but just curious.
RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberTry Life Cycles in Bolton, he does a lot of that knid of thing.
RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberMy Mum had a double knee replacement about 7 years ago and is back mountain biking and road riding although at 69 she aint as knaaaarly as she used to be. For her getting a sport sensitive specialists made the difference. One Doc told her she would probably not cycle again and a lady of her years should be taking it easy… another was adamant if she got the physio regime right afterwards she would be bike on the bike. She was like a woman possessed when it came to the physio and has just under 100% bend back in both knees and no restrictive movement from scar tissue… Speak to as many specialists as you can and good luck find a suitable solution.
PS the knee replacements for her were totally necessary as she could hardly walk stairs before she had it done.
RenagadeMarmaladeFree Memberthink Royston Vasey with a bit of Chernobyl thrown in
Genuine LOL… probably should try and defend the place but that is actually funny! The lads have already visited and loved it…

There are plenty of wheelbuilding courses you can do, we offer them at ATG training its a Three day course and you come away with a DT Swiss wheelbuilding certificate. The cost is £340 plus vat.
I have done it myself the advice I would give if you do one is keep practicing it. TBH i did the course a few years ago and didn’t build wheels for ages after and i would have to do a refresher course if i wanted to build some wheels, I’m lucky though as i can do that through work or get the other half to knock some up.
The things you will need are: A Spokey spoke Key (a red and yellow one), I would recommend you buy a jig if you want to true accurately but you don’t need to spend a fortune on one Tacx do a cheap one. You can build to the same tolerances on any jig in my opinion. Dishing tool is pretty essential .
Spoke calculation websites: I would recommend Sapim seems the most accurate as you have to measure all your components.
If your new to it I would recommend a tension meter although these can be very expensive.Just let me know if you need more info
RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberCheers for the mentions chaps…
FFS don’t book into accommodation in the Rossendale Valley whatever you do
I’m not going to say that Rossendale Valley is suitable for everyone, but me and Mat are both cyclist’s and moved to the valley for the MTBing, we know loads of routes from 2 hours to full days of off road trails. The B and B is aimed at MTBers and having stayed in a fair few places in our time we think we have catered for them perfectly.
If you’re looking for high end accommodation with and artisan bakery next door and juice bars powered by solar power Rossendale aint for you…try Hebden. If you’re looking for a place to stay close to Lee Quarry that’s affordable and a weekend that’s all about the riding then Rossendale is for you.
RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberCheers everyone, nice to put names to faces… What the flip happened to the wheel?
RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberWe went with Brentachre they specialize in van insurance and accept modified vans. We kitted out our transporter as a camper with space for bikes inside.
RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberI’ll be there with the Old Man (thats my other half not On Ones latest bike)
RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberAfternoon Whytetrash… Well done x2
I will pass this around our staff and training workshop I know a few of them claim to ride BMXs how well they do this is yet to be proven…
I think the staff will fall into the same catagory for facial hair as Rorschach.
RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberI’m off to Austria on Saturday – yay!
Me to, went last year as well (Solden), can’t wait for the super efficient lifts and loads of really easy to get too off piste’s.
Really not looking forward to the CRAP music, what is that about Austria? It’s all DJ OZI and other such musical crimes… I think I’ll take my I Pod out for the Après Ski.
RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberCheers for the info Tony and Stumpyjon i’ll cheak the website.
RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberSorry Tony this may have been asked before when the trails are been built or repaired would having volunteers be
a) Helpful
b) AllowedIt’s just that a few guys I know have expressed an interest in helping out.
RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberI have a few different brands of Saddles at the moment and have tried loads over the years, I have a charge on my commute bike which I found really uncomfy at 1st I did a bit of research on specific bike fit for women and found that if you tilt the saddles very slightly down to the front it took all the pain away. So try playing around with the saddle position but I would also recommend a Charge because they are affordable(I paid £25) and mine has a really cool distressed floral design on.
About the saddle position I have spoken to guys who do professional bike fit who were adamant that the saddle should be totally level but then they mainly fit bikes to guys I can’t remember where I saw the women specific research but if you word a Google search carefully you may find it…. on the other hand you may end up with something entirely different 😯RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberWe,re just over the hill in Stacksteads, close to Lee and Cragg Quarry
RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberCheers chaps freekin awesome event, mazin poster and it was ace to meet up with everyone in the pub!!!
Well done to everyone who helped and took part. Did i hear that the you managed to donate nearly a grand to a local a local toddler group?
RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberHow do I go about donating a prize for the event chaps?
RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberAfternoon All
Don’t want to bore you all with too much detail about the courses you can find out more details on http://www.atg-training.co.uk/cycletraining.html .
There is Level 1 which is PDIing a bike. £340 plus vatLevel 2 Which has become the industry standard for a cycle mechanic is a strip down and rebuild a non hydraulic brake system bike, and a Wheelbuild, £1190 plus vat or of you have already done the Cytech 1 the cost of that can be taken off. Also as mentioned above this can be done as a 1 day assessment if you don’t need the training, this cost £170 plus vat.
Level 3 you can do a 5 day course on either Road Bikes or Mountain Bike £1000 plus vat
It’s worth noting that if you are in the cycle trade, funding maybe available for you at level 2 and 3 so the cost involved are nearly halved. Another recent change is that all 16 – 18 year olds in the trade get complete funding for the course so there is no cost for them or their employer.
If you’re looking at mobile mechanicing which I seem to get more and more enquiries about lately, there is a Guy called Eazy Rider in the peaks area, he has been pretty successful and a really sound guy it may be worth giving him a call to see if he has any advice on what qualifications he thought were most useful…Feel free to PM me if you would like more info
RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberCaz and Elsa I have made 1st contact by the power of email… to the email you have on your profile, Caz yours has bounced back though have you got another. My email is on my profile.
RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberTrio and Cougars OH fancy meeting up… Some remote moorland maybe (that sounds a lot more sinister than is meant) or trails at Helay Nab or Lee/ Cragg Quarry possibly?
RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberI’m a lurker only posted on a few threads really… I would be interested in the rides in January where ever they end up. But if there are any girls are based in the North West; Bolton, Bury, Rammy etc let me know. I usually ride with guys but it would be cool ride out with ladies
RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberSorry only just picked this tread up…
First of all I work for ATG Training so I can only give you information on our courses and prices and obviously I totally agree with rootes1 and say that Cytech is the most recognised 😆
The majority of qualified mechanics in the trade hold the Cytech qualifications; therefore it is the most recognised within the trade. It is also a brand that is recognised overseas as well (Europe, Australia and New Zealand)It’s really nice to see us and other training providers been discussed positively. There are training providers that deliver both Cytech and C&G but what ATG is good at is securing funding for candidates working in the trade, we also have two training facilities in Manchester and Aylesbury.
ATG may be able to secure funding for candidates that are working 16hrs a week or more in the cycle trade [/b]regardless of their age, but if you are not in the trade there may be other streams of funding you can access. For Example
If you’re under 19 I would recommend you visit a connexions advisor
If your thinking of setting a business a Business Link advisor will help you locate any grants in your area that may help towards the cost of training and other set up cost.
If your 16 – 18 and fancy working in a bike shop then the National Apprenticeship website may have some shops advertising in your area.You can find more in-depth info on the courses we offer but just as a brief breakdown the cost are as follows;
Cytech 2 with training £1190 plus vat (without funding) but as others have said if you’re a competent mechanic you can do the assessment route which is £170 plus vat. This is a complete strip down of a bike (non hydraulic braking system) and a full wheelbuild. If you want a bit more detail just let me know and I’ll forward you a detailed list of the assessment criteriaWe also offer level 3 courses for more advanced mechanics and Home Mechanic courses for enthusiasts.
And that is officially the longest forum post I have ever done!
RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberI cant work out how to post a picture! But heres a link to me and my collie at Lee Quarry.

RenagadeMarmaladeFree MemberI’ve had a few that were the drivers fault…
Guy pulled out on me from a side street which I kind of anticipated so had slowed down he then stopped blocking my way completely to see if there was any traffic coming the other way at which point I road in to the back wing… He paid after the threat of going through insurance.
Had a whole load of clips and near misses I was thinking of wearing a headcam and compiling them all to the sound track of Benny Hill… In fact every near miss I have I get Benny Hill theme tune stuck in my head.Oh and obviously non that were my fault:-)
