How much does the frame weigh now?!

Can’t see why anyone would shot blast the unpainted inside of a head tube that much without blowing holes in the thinner painted tubes. Could they have anodised the entire thing and then machined out the head tube?

How did they protect the threads in the BB – if a 1mm has gone from the headset, I’d expect them to have been destroyed?

I’ve always thought that Brooks were the MTB saddle equivalent of supplying a LBS with biscuits for favours; people always suggest that they are a good idea, but no body actually goes ahead with it.

I served with Dave Kirk in ‘Nam, he’d take a bullet for anyone of you.

A “sir name” is not an actual thing by the way.

    Thanks.

Getting close to a 100% PSA built bike.

Depending on year the Carrera Fury has a Giga Pipe BB; crap but not cheap so £30 sounds reasonable.

It also took me a day to get a bottom bracket out of a Fury frame, mostly due to the threads being full of paint. If I had been worried about damaging the frame, I’d have happily paid someone the standard rate for the job.

The brakes should be gotten rid of. But benefit of the doubt, maybe the mechanic had to do more work than described on the phone, but kept it simple?

Rider must be shown building/tweaking/forming the trail at least once, with a magic spade that appears from nowhere. This shows the rider has a great eye for detail and a social conscience.

Where possible, everything should be filmed using a camera slide mount, giving boring shots the appearance of something happening. Nothing says action quite as much as the impression that the camera is involved in an landslide. It also does not matter if the direction of the camera slide in no ways matches the action being shown.

A rudimentary zip wire camera must also be set up, even if it’s path only coincides with the bicycle for fleeting moment.

If a noisy freehub is available, make sure to use this noise right at the start of the film, before the pictures begin.

I’m going to see if some spare Straitline Levers fit from my old M755 brakes.

Those levers only cost 216% more that the brakes themselves!

    Brilliant PSA:)

Mine arrived, hoses plenty long enough. Had to swap the levers but as expected it only required a spanner and a minute of my time to do, no bleed needed.

I’ve gone tactical and used it against a single £70 spend, in percentage terms worse off but I think the multiple £40 order approach is the surest way to get nothing.

    Scandal 26er headset size anyone?

The only thing I would swap mine for is a Turner Burner, and that’s more out of curiosity rather than a real need.

It did take a while to get it to feel right, I think some of that came from an initially stiff linkage but once sorted, it just flies. I’ve never ridden another bike that has had so much traction on the climbs.

Be interesting to see how the other welds on the front triangle hold up now, I imagine when that broke that they saw forces in directions previously denied.

    Very nice bike.

Don’t know if anyone can answer this, but on the new frames with the bars turned at right angles, what is the clearance like from the down tube to the fork top caps?

Reason I ask is that I currently have a 1 1/8th 140mm fork (120mm planned in the future) and am thinking about a Soul, so would like to lower the front end. Fitting a zero stack lower headset gains me the geometry of a 125/130mm fork but I don’t want the risk of frame damage.

Had a Spoon and didn’t like it. Bought a WTB Pure V for less and it was so much comfier and probably lighter.

I just checked the local stock and you’re right, it has increased massively. A fortnight ago, the nearest large Team CX was 30 miles away and it was a display model with damage (went even further afield in the end), this week they are everywhere.

Raises questions as to when the 2013 range will hit the shelves…if indeed it does!

Check the stock on the Boardmans, as my opinion is they are running out in some areas prior to the 203 range (Decemeber they said, but date keeps moving), recently bought one and those that they did have left were display models.

Or do you hang the Audi off of the bike?

Why do cyclists stand in the way?

Lost count of the number of times a ride is interrupted by bunches of riders who stop as soon as a Gnar section levels out, in order to compare fork coatings with one another, only to get in the way of people carrying momentum to the next bit.

Or they line up next to the start of a section for 15 minutes, leaving only a 12cm gap for anyone with the audacity to go past them, usually forcing the need for a 13 point, right angled turn onto the trail, avoiding discarded bikes.

When we’re not those people, we don’t want them there. When we are them, we don’t really realise.

If bike and rider fall over (not talking unattended bikes in car parks), with seat stay taking the brunt of 70-80kg against what could be a sharp object, I’m not surprised it broke. Doesn’t matter that it’s at 2 mph but if it did, where is the limit and how do you prove it?

Any bike lubricant with the words “juice” or “butter” in it’s name to disguise that fact that it shares it’s origins with much cheaper stuff.

Take Finish Line Teflon Grease – remove the label…ah, White Lightning Pool and Spa Lubricant. So much for being “Formulated for the unique and demanding non-hydrodynamic requirements of a bicycle bearing”.

    But what’s better?

A 3.5lb tyre that needs a tube and that might get torn, so you need to carry spares.

Or heavy tyres that under those loads would seem unlikely to get damaged?

I think the worry with the fat bike, so beloved of STW, is that cross winds acting on massively tall tyres would be bad

Yes, always a good idea to run cables on a bike without brakes or gears, you never know when they might come in handy.

    Next question then…

Do the new seals provide less friction for the same job as the old seals, or do they just ‘seal’ less?

Fox Van 140s. M755 front brake, need to find another front caliper in order to run 180mm on the back due to PM frame – currently got Deore M596 rear stand in. Only SLX front mech as I didn’t feel right cutting up something more expensive.

Roval Traverse ELs (£263! new) and MRP LRP (£20!) to be fitted after christmas.

    Got mine, very pleased.

I’m going to use it to stuff damp/wet tents in for those times when you can’t be bothered to arrange a tent in the pouring rain so that it fits into the original manufacturers bag.

It depends on what class Mojo perceive you to be. The richer you are, more gold they put in the coating.
