Slime filled inner tube (utterly useless) punctured and the patches wouldn’t stick to it. Was running 35mm tyres on a 29inch Crest rim, so a total nightmare to get off. The spare tube had a removable valve core and the new bike pump had a adaptable threaded connector with a tendency to de-cores presta valves.

3 layers of redundancy (slime/patches/spare tubes) brought down.

That would be a vote for a black one then, remoterob?

Black, or silver if you changed to seatpost/mudguards.

Red against black spacers/headset/bar tape would just look a bit odd/Dennis the Menace.

As I sit at work tapping or clicking on micro switches all day, I actually enjoy the mechanical engagement of the bicycle and the ability to sense that everything is running smoothly by feel.

I’m a tad concerned that the word “juxtaposition” has appeared more than once… not sure i’m on the right forum these days!

Your observations of the Zeitgeist has identified a paradigm shift.

As for the video, I was sadly more curious about the history of the town. I didn’t want this to be the case, it’s just that the riding displayed is impossible to relate to and the ‘wow’ factor has diminished with repetition.

Park scales are well known for being a bit on the lenient side. However I know that my niner is sub 20lbs and my road bike is 13.4lbs. Njee off of here had a Top Fuel that I think was around the 20lb mark and he weighs everything.

This is my Niner so that gives you an idea of what a fairly light build takes.

    Saddle resting against the scales?

Why do people weigh bikes as 32.5lbs instead of 32lbs7ozs or if you want to use decimal points 12.7kgs etc . One of those silly things that irritate me .

They also nearly always weigh the complete bike in lbs but discuss lost weight in grams.

    ent from 2 x 10 xt to 1 x 11 xx and knocked 2lb in weight off

Sorry to be sceptical, but I can’t see how that adds up, unless you lost circa 250g on the freehub.

I don’t see how the armchair lawyers can assume a win without knowing the terms and conditions applied to the voucher code. If it was stated to the original recipient that the code was to be used only once, and by them only, then any subsequent user doesn’t have a leg to stand on.

Did Decathlon actually invite any of you to use a voucher that could essentially give away their stock for free?

The people who put in more than one order – do you seriously think they are going to honour what can be a 80% discount when you are so clearly raping them for all they are worth?

I can potentially see it being honoured on a reasonably sized order, once, but a £50 order, multiple times?

You probably need a CX bike.

To save the rims, you’ll need air volume as the strength of the wheel isn’t always improved by fitting CX wheels depending on what you go for. If your road bike is truly a road bike, then 28c is probably the limit.

If the roads are dirty or muddy, you may want mudguards and/or disc brakes.

A disc equipped CX bike can use parts from the mountain bike parts graveyard, not all of us have road bikes.

Buy 5 SLX brakes, with change, for the price of 2 from Hope and then you can stop worrying about serviceability.

Thanks to all that have taken the time to reply.

I have now received a refund for the return postage, but not because the goods were faulty.

The retailer still believes that the fork is absolutely fine. I believe that at the very least they were cosmetically faulty and were certainly not intended to look like that; my 2 year old Revs don’t.

I don’t think vouchers covering the postage is wrong.

Ignoring the ‘goodwill’ or monetary aspect, would you agree with the retailer that there is nothing wrong with the fork?

‘Damage’ is their word, not mine. I would agree with your assessment, Loco.

They were shipped in a compressed state (increased negative pressure), not sure if this has anything to do with it.

    Thank you both so far.

I have sent the fork back for a refund, arguing that they are faulty.

The retailer claims to have had the fork inspected by 3 different warranty advisors, all of whom have confirmed that there is no damage.

This obviously effects who pays for return postage. After asking for a refund on the return postage costs, I have been offered a ‘goodwill gesture’ of vouchers. I have an issue with the principle that they think this fork is ok and secondly, that they are offering a gesture of goodwill, rather than fulfilling a basic requirement.

If you want to do the job properly, then I think you should use one.

Few people could set up the pivots on a FS for example, unless they did it very often.

I’d only want the cheapest gold secure lock I could find, because it’s only to satisfy the insurers.

If they can’t cut the lock, they’ll cut the frame.

Looks like it’s on road tyres, bet the other road users love it.

It’s weird how some people need to fill every inch of bare space on a bike with accessories.

Talks about skill building due to lack of forgiveness in early bikes, then talks about how forgiving the modern rigid is…

The modern rigid with 2.35 20psi tyres, discs, bigger wheels and slacker angles is *probably* more of a ‘skills masker’ than any early 90’s era hardtail.

CXWorld would also argue that anything over 35mm is over biked.

Renton, you often seem to be buying and selling to free up cash or because you don’t ride enough/buy the wrong bike – every time you do that, you must spend a few hundred pounds on new parts/upgrades/refurbs. Isn’t it better to stick with a bike like this for a number of years, then in say three years time, having a shopping spree on the bike you really want?
