I had a set of XTs which suddenly went a bit crap for no good reason. Bleed was good, lever feel was fine, pads replaced and rotors cleaned ~ but still a distinct lack of bite and power. The only thing that really made a difference was replacing the rotors ~ this might well help with your Deores as the supplied rotors are a bit cheesy. I’ve never found any concrete scientific proof, but I suspect rotors “go off” after a period of use.

All it takes is one DNF for Marquez and it’s game on again – not beyond the bounds of reason.

I’m a complete t**t and have done many many stupid things in my time:- but even I wouldn’t ride way marked trails backwards!

I used them with inner tubes and was mighty underwhelmed – took them off and sold them on within a few weeks. Now have another bike which came with them ready fitted with Stan’s tubeless ~ they feel great and are still happily on the bike months later. No idea what type or compound they are, I’ve never checked; I just ride them and don’t worry.

I don’t think there’s anything dishonest about a bit of self promotion as such; just that the OP should fess up to it.
And if there’s an award for the worst company name ever, BikesWanky should get it! :-)

Every RAC I ever saw went back under warranty because they all creaked at the crown/steerer bonding. Have any survived?

And this morning, Marquez has a fairly major crash………had to happen sooner or later. Sounds like a shoulder dislocation and I wouldn’t be surprised if he still races. To be honest, an injury to Marc is the only hope anyone else has of clawing their way back into the championship.

Several in my collection. The Stumpy comes out for occasional dry weather trail riding; the Kona is my current daily commuter :-)

I think the recession has changed a lot of people’s thinking on spending. It’s not that I couldn’t afford to, but I don’t want to blow huge amounts on a bike. I’m with no-eyed-deer on this ~ buy used, buy carefully, build it yourself and have deluxe for just a few bucks. :-)

Bells on about half of my bikes – they’re great – saves me having to make the effort of speaking to people. Not that I’m a miserable git or anything

My Latitude felt “neutral” (in terms of steering/handling) with a 65mm stem, running a 120 travel Fox. 80 already sounds long to me and I’d imagine with 100mm it’ll steer like a boat. What characteristic are you trying to change?

Why would anyone put a large amount of cash in the post? Way too risky (for them) surely?

It’ll be fine. 9 speed chainsets will run in 10 speed systems and vice versa.

Back in the day, Fox stanchions were pretty crap (going back 10 years plus), but my recent forks have been fine. Prefer the action of Fox over Rock Shox and Marzocchis I’ve owned and the weights are good too.

I had prescription Transitions put into my old Minute frames. Wear them for riding, driving, watching telly ~ whatever really. Cost in the region of £180/90ish….. versatile and worth the money in the long run.

Some things do look better de-stickered. My frame was powdercoated black ten years ago and remains plain black. The stickers were removed from my Mavics because I didn’t like yellow much at the time. Kinda hard to remove labels from tyres, bars seatposts cranks etc though.

1988 (i think). Do a completed listings search on ebay and ask on Retrobike. My guess would be £150 give or take a smidge.

I can’t see John Hopkins getting another GP ride ~ even though he’s a Suzuki boy through n through ~ there’s too much raw talent coming up from GP2. LCR Honda must be reconsidering Bradl’s contract – unless he majorly gets his act together soon. And Bautista should be doing better considering the hardware he’s got. Spare Hondas on the horizon?

Cheapest for me is charity shops, but it’s hard work; very low strike rate sometimes. But sometimes you strike gold for 30p! Ebay is good for me, usually pay £2-3 including postage; loads of used cds sell for 99p. :-)

I’ve recorded “meetings” on my mobile. Phone on table looks perfectly normal, set to record just before going into the room . Sound quality is just fine :-)

Giant are kings of customer service and with a polite word from the dealer, will quite likely cover the cost of an upgrade. So the OP will probably get what he wants if he keeps his wig on and doesn’t get all shouty. Then he can feel he’s won…………but we’ll all know the truth

The Double Whammy ~ bottom end of the wood, parallel to Weir Lane. Not on the track as such, but about 20 yards away from the road is a little rocky outcrop. Drop in at the top, hard left for a few yards, then 90 degree right down the next dropoff. Always used to be fun. :-)

I enjoyed pootling through last thursday. There’s less there than i remember, but what there is, is in good nick. Some of the old trails are well overgrown and neglected and i gave the Double Whammy a miss (do people still ride that?) 50 Acre is worth doing as part of your loop between Ash Ct and Leigh Woods i reckon :-)

Super Tack High Roller on the front with a Larsen on the back? Always felt good to me. Now it’s dusty, I’ve just fitted Kenda Slant Sixes front and rear – very fast rolling, but nuff grip too; happy so far :-)

I’ve owned several late nineties Stumpers. Used with 80mm SIDs, Manitou SXs, also 80mm, Project Twos and an RC31. The RC was 1st generation; I can’t remember what length they were, but 419mm springs to mind. Anything much longer than that will make it feels weird.
