My used Giant Trance cost me a smidge over £200. Ok, it a 2007 and came with some fairly cheap stuff, but it’s great now it’s been upgraded at minimal cost. It’s unbelievable how cheap you can do your biking if you buy carefully ~ and my tatty old Trance keeps up with friends on six grand bikes, no problem and it’s great fun to ride. I’d suggest asking a friend or club mate to help you trawl Pinkbike and Ebay if you’re not sure what you’re looking for.

Nice frame, OP. I love my Duster in it’s very retro fluro yellow guise. This picture is from when I first got it, but it now features purple seatpost and bars for added taste and subtlety :-)

I love so many of them, he was a true great and a brilliant story teller. His films just suck you in from the start. The one I go back and watch most is Frenzy; love it! :-)

I’m surprised it took so long for someone to nominate Caddy Shack……..a crap classic! And on a similar theme, how about Happy Gilmour? Another crap golfing movie, so bad, so bad :-)

Fair play to the people who still ride road ~ but it’s not for me anymore. City traffic’s generally fine, ride assertively and deal with it; but it’s different out on the A roads. How can you have any control over the texting trucker bearing down from behind? Aside from general care and attention issues, there are far too many drivers busy with their sat navs and i-phones for my liking.

Thanks for all the replies ~ useful info. I only need a single plug really so think I’ll find an Apple charger on fleabay. Cheers. :-)

Deores are the best thing since sliced chips. I recently sold a set of XTs, but kept my Deores…..

High 5 gels here too, just for a boost to get me home when I’ve overcooked it on some rides. I carry a couple of little zip-loc bags with me to put the empty wrappers in ~ stops getting sticky ooze inside the Camelbak :-)

Strictly speaking ~ no, you can’t do it. A nine shifter won’t work with a ten mech. Best bet would be to buy a cheap used mech off the classified as a stop gap for a few months.

Sounds like chainsuck to me. As the chain hooks on the ring, it’ll pull the rear mech forward and spring back as the chain lets go ~ creates a juddering effect in the rear mech arm. Looking at the pics, it’s an old XT 750 era rear mech which could be anywhere up to 14 years old ~ if the rest of the transmission is the same age, it’s gonna have problems :~)

It’s a good little shop ~ lucky they could help you out :-)
You may not be so lucky next time ~ I always think it’s worth having a spare mech hanger stashed in my Camelbak. Saves the ride even if you are just in the local woods……

I’ve recently sold my XTs, but I’ve kept my Deores. They’re both great, and there are minor differences in features and build quality, but to me, not worth the price gap. The Deore 596 is one of the best value bits of kit on the market.

I don’t understand why Fellaini was left on so long. After his first yellow card and then still looking as if he’d foul again, why not bring him off and negate the risk? Surely the odds were high on a second yellow at some stage? Still………….easy to be wise after the event I guess, and it wasn’t a game changer in the end.

If I see a thorn or small piece of glass in my tyre I tend to leave them until I get where I’m going. Removal usually causes sudden deflation.

I like mine. Tough face fabric, optional hood and a cut which looks of off the bike. Sizing is what I’d expect….maybe a smidge bigger than, for instance, Altura’s sizing. Waterproofing is waterproof and breathability is pretty good, aided by some big ol’ pit zips. :-)

We’ll get BT Sports as part of our Virgin TV package next year. Pheew, no need to switch!
At the mo, i watch GPs live on BBC and tolerate Parrish and cox, then turn over and watch it again with the far superior commentary of Ryder and Moody.
BBC commentary ~ it’s a nightmare in a bubblecar!

Serial Merrell user here……. my latest pair have worn through the heels way before the uppers have started to wear. I suspect the QC has gone down hill. I generally get through a pair a year and these have lasted about 8 months; i do walk a lot though.

Same tyres all year round for me ~ just adapt the riding style. Ignitor on the front and a bald-as-a-badgers-arse Ignitor on the rear ~ what could possibly go wrong?

On our 2nd Megane. They’ve both been great. The first one blew a coil in less than 2 years, replaced under warranty; other than that….no problems. Both French cars with keyless entry, auto headlights, auto wipers and all that jazz. :D

Sticking a hard bit of metal on the bit of the bar likely to hit you when you come off also strikes me as a bit daft.

I always thought that……but the newer fangled single collared grips solve that. I’ve got Charge Griddles on two bikes ~ perfect!

I think Bridgestone were being very cautious, having a history of tyres exploding at 200mph!
In terms of the penalty for Marquez – the rules were the same for everyone and available before the race; black flag was the right ruling in my book.

140mm fork on mine. The bushes are offset too ~ I find if they’re in the middle of the trail, they get in the way.
70mm zero rise stem and 720mm 15mm rise bars. Seatpost with plenty of layback. Suits me for all rounds xc/trail. I find it hard to imagine how the bike worked with the original spec 100mm fork and 100 mm stem :?
