    Thanks for your help guys.

The distance to Ashton doesn’t bother me; I have a 45 mile loop across the South Downs to my the cheeky singletrack at my local(ish) woods, around & back again.

I want to get miles in as I intend on doing the SDW in a day next year.

I had a poke around on Strava, but could only find road routes. Probably looking in the wrong place! I’ll spend a bit more time on it.

I was looking S/W of Bath-trying to link things to Ashton. The OS map makes N/E of Bath look interesting?

Sounds to me like it’d work.

    That frame looks lovely.

I use my Nukeproof Mega on cheeky local singletrack trails which I used to use my HT on. It’s just faster and more fun to be honest.
Also used at Stoughton DH & Rogate DH 😀

I’ve got an inbred which I use if I’m putting miles in on the South Downs.

A while back I had the day off & watched some horror film or another, then went for a night ride.

I was riding through woods of silver birch trees & everytime I turned my head, the light reflected off the white bark & I thought it was a ghostly lady in a wedding dress!! Pooped myself once or twice!

Nowadays I’m on the South Downs & it’s the reflective sheep’s eyes which get me!
I heard an axe murderer coughing on one ride, although my friend who was with me said it was a sheep.

I say it was a close call, if he hadn’t have coughed, he’d have got me!

    Meh.

I got sucked in for the Urge Downomatic & several pairs of gloves. I’m rough with gloves, they never last long but 5 pairs for £30? Winner!

I need to add though, that the alu rimmed versions wouldn’t get my vote of confidence either. The ONLY reason the hub issues can be granted an exception in my opinion is because of the performance advantages of the carbon rim.

Missed that bit. Appreciate that opinion too, as the alu ones are the ones I was looking at. Cheers fella.

Strange that the one person on the thread who has a pair is the one person on the thread recommending them without question

Apart from the other person who had 2 sets in 6 months and then there’s someone who has rebuilt several sets & isn’t a huge fan?

That plus the the fact that you’ve sent them back 3 times in 12 months, plus hearsay & rumours is enough to put me off.

    Thanks guys.

I think there’s enough bad opinions about the hubs to put me off.

I reckon I’ll go with my original thoughts of Hopes & Flows.

I was emailing Si about a week or 2 ago regarding Chumba frames.

He said he had no Evo G2s in stock, but was expecting a delivery soon, so he was active on emails then.

Not spoken recently, but he’s not getting in the colour I wanted, so I’m going with something else.

    Cheers guys.

I’m on the 1st floor, there’s a flat roof by my lounge window. The guy broke in through the window; the frame now now needs repairing.

He walked round my inbred to get to my Mega which was behind it. Then legged it our the fire escape. Nice easy exit for the little shit.

I went out the fire exit on the off-chance I might see something & there he was so I chased him down the road.

He got picked up by police, but had dumped the bike somewhere in the Thomas A Becket area.

I’ve only ridden the bike at Stoughton DH & Whiteways.

I’m toying with the idea of trying a Monarch Plus as I’m blowing through all the travel way too easily currently, even with less sag.

What tune is recommended for a Monarch Plus?

Running one on my inbred. Have done so for 12 months. Took it apart today, for the first time as I’m changing the forks. Grease still clean, bearings still smooth.

I’ve been riding all winter on 20mile rides on the South Downs in the clag & clay & chalk & sh1t. Bearings went on my wheels-headset fine.

    Impressed.

I’m currently nursing a couple of cracked ribs from “landing” a 25ft tabletop onto my shoulder.

Echo all the statements above. Went to A&E, checked me over & recommended Ibuprofen. They don’t do anything else for ribs these days. They did offer to give me stronger pain killers, but I can’t work with them so I’m just Paracetemol & Ibruprofen (2 hours apart if it’s really hurting)

Hayfever has kicked in 🙁 Yesterday I sneezed 8 times in a row, then 12 in a row. Thought I was dying.

I suspect that by “con”they mean negative point, as in “pros and cons”, not con as in scam.

It’s a sad day though, when a 26″ wheel is considered a bad point on a bike.

Lost it “landing” a 25ft tabletop a week ago.
They reckon I’ve cracked any, or none, of up to 4 ribs.

Still hurts. Lots. Like you say, especially in the morning. Mine are keeping me awake most of the night & waking me up if I move when asleep.

Had a sneezing fit this morning, thought I was going to die.

5 weeks? That’s not cheered me up at all. 🙁

I’m going to try a little 15 mile xc loop on Weds, wheels on the ground stuff! The doctor said to keep mobile & deep breathing so xc sounds perfect!

Rest is good; I run a pub & have done a 60 hour week this week, all the bending, stetching, lifting, pint-pulling etc is not helping at all. 🙁

Apparently you need to make sure you cough & sneeze, even though it hurts, as if you hold it in because of the pain, you’ll be at risk of chest infection. Quite common apparently for rib injurys to become chest infections.

    Not strictly true.

Depends on width of inner rim.

If OP has 2.0 tyres, I would hazard a guess at narrow rims. Too wide a tyre will risk rolling off on corners.

Depends on the size of your rims & clearance on frame.

What wheels & frame you got?

the rebound will act to throw your weight forwards as the back rebounds quicker than the front.

    Learnt that the hard way!

I’ve been HT boy up ’til now. Built myself a Mega, 2nd ride out had the rebounds set up wrong, “landed” a 25foot tabletop wrong. Couple of cracked ribs & a bruised Old Chap.

I hung my wet camelbak backpack on the radiator to dry (with the bladder still inside). A week later I went out for another short ride with the remaining water but for the next 3 days was shitting through the eye of a needle!.

Why would you do that? Why would you not at the very least replace the water?

Some people are just asking for food poisoning!

I don’t know about aquaphobic, but I was told that if it rains at a certain level then the ground can’t absorb it quick enough so it runs off & down into rivers & to the sea.

Which is probably essentially the same thing. Just not necessarily to do with all the drought. Or something. Maybe. I dunno.

^ one is a pic from a STW review a while ago, i’m guessing its the 19″ mine will be much more smallest for clown like feats.

Ah, the old “here’s a picture, but not of mine” trick. 😉 I like it.

Although you have committed the sin of using “brought” instead of “bought”. I hate it.

Thanks guys, that’s great Reevil just nice to know what other people’s specs are, the guy is asking 500quid for the frame, forks and wheels do u guys think that’s an ok price

Sounds reasonable. What are the forks & wheels?

    Spec:
    1.5″ Chris King headset
    1.5″ Lyric U-Turns 20mm axle.
    Easton Havoc stem -50mm
    Answer Pro 720 bars
    SLX Drivetrain Double & bash
    Hope Tech M4 brakes
Hope Hoops with Mavic EX721 rims
    Rockshox Reverb
    Nobby Nic 2.4s in summer
    Maxxis Swampthing 2.35 in winter.

It’s not a cheap build, nor light, but it’s hard as nails. I love it.
It loved South Wales, particulary Cwm Rhader. Point it downhill & it comes alive!

Having said all that, I’ve robbed the forks, stem & brakes to go on my Nukeproof Mega build, contemplating taking the mmmBop back to Revelations or maybe X-Fusion 140mm forks, or possibly selling frame. (Mrs R & my head demand I sell it, my heart says no)

Aye. Top fun. Singletrack destroyer! Nimble, flickable, loves getting wheels in the air. I love mine.

I started off with 140mm Revelations, now sporting 160mm U-Turn coil Lyriks & doing much more DH style stuff.

You do feel a bit sore after 25-30 miles xc though!
