Most Radio 1 and 2 presenters ever (and Top of the Pops 1960’s – 90’s) except maybe John Peel

Similar (old) thread here, look who’s mentionned first:

Also, Jimmy Carr, anyone said that?

Where I am it’s not so much the knobs who are deliberately obnoxious/aggressive, there are far more f**kwits who don’t know what they are doing in a car, particularly retired folk in Honda Jazz automatics or similar small far east stuff they have bought with their retirement package because it’s cheap, sensible and has a long warranty. They are really scary. Crawling along, not awareof what’s going on around them. Every week our local rag has stories of people being run over or houses crashed into by some oldy in an automatic who got confused with the pedals. I love cool cars, my van and motorbike but agree with morecashthandash, it’s the type of person. Don’t let it it get to you. Worked out the other day 25 of our staff live within 4 miles of work, only 2 of us cycle in. Must do something about that

Probably teaching to suck eggs etc but also remember about the inland revenue and returns, don’t think you’ll get away with not declaring rental income/expenditure even if a loss on balance, they’ll find you. So keep a record of all if you don’t already.

I used to pay similar, about 12% but like everyone, haggle with them in an open market, they’ll want the business. Get recommendations though, I have had a couple of crap ones who failed to collect rent for months. I don’t bother using agents now for full management, just use for tenant finding, initial money and carrying out references, do anything else myself. They charge about £400 around my way for doing this initial service. Cheers

The Persuaders – John Barry, I think.
I like the Billy Connolly quote (I think, again) – ‘My definition of an intellectual is someone who can listen to the William Tell Overture without thinking of the Lone Ranger’

If taking kids and you don’t want to drive really far, Domaines Des Ormes site near Dol in Brittany is great. Loads to do on site inc activities and pool, good beaches nearby too as well as old city St.Malo and Dinan. Poole/Portsmouth – Cherbourg crossing good and quick with 1.5 hour drive the other side. We always used to use Canvas Holidays for best deals, waiting till last couple of weeks, and get them to arrange ferry too. By phone you can really haggle with them, we got 11 days all in in a large mobile home (far less hassle, wouldn’t camp) for a grand last year for 6 of us in a Kombi van, should have been double that. Stayed at Domaines Des Ormes(3rd time) for a few days plus similar at St.Cast and Le Ranolien sites also in North Brittany. Great places. Hope this helps

I think all the old people around where I live who drive around in Honda Jazz’s and can’t go above 20mph are up to something sinister

You know you can get IT stuff inc. ipads etc with 10-20% discounts on RRP if your employer subscribes to things like http://www.computingscheme.co.uk as our does – run like the cycleschemes, you can spread payment too via monthly salary sacrifice over 1-3 years. Not as good savings as in the cycleschemes (I think the saving comes from NI savings not for all tax) but still handy nonetheless. Cheers

did mine 15 years ago twisting when chainsawing, sounds like the same area as you. I can go weeks/months and be fine and then suddenly it goes again, a dull pain and a really sudden shooting pain in certain positions. I find to keep moving about helps – sitting down in front of telly for too long or first thing in morning can be bad, like it’s seizing up so get up and get moving. I use deep heat and ibuprofen when really bad, or ice pack on it, exercise when you remember (difficult as when you feel okay you forget to etc). I also had recent chiropractor and physio visits via work health insurance which has really helped, much better than relying on pills and gels. Hopefully you’ll find a solution and get better soon

Not relevant to a modern one but I had one of the old boxy Giuliettas years ago with the 2 litre engine and twin Dellorto carbs, same as now bought ‘cos cheap due to depreciation. It used to go like shit off a shovel, body parts and trim used to fall off, electrics failed regularly, but such good fun to drive. A love hate relationship. I still loved driving it. They are probably much better now but reputations tend to stick for ages so will probably depreciate quick. If you can find a good regularly serviced one, go for it, everyone should own an Alfa at some stage

I don’t know why but our old ‘poacher’ woodburner used to soot up the window all the time despite knowing the procedure and how to control the vents. Our newer Burley one in the same place, same flue, same source of seasoned wood never does. Just assumed some woodburners draw better or burn more efficiently than others.

I used to use it in my saws for years but feeling guilty for the enviro and finding a cheap source of the proper stuff i don’t now. I get chain oil bottles re-filled by local tractor/forestry place who have a big drum and sell cheapish or buy litre bottles from this place who have a shop nearby: http://www.in-excess.com/

I also used to use used engine oil mixed with creosote (or creocoat I think the alternative is called now) as a wood preservative on sheds, posts etc – best stuff last years. Not sure I would now. Just take it down the council re-cycling place.

Hate the phoney American accents in R4 plays & ditto cheesey crap commercial stations (stuff like Wave 105 and Heart FM down here). I alternate between R4 and 6 music, avoiding stuff like the Archers, John Humphreys, Thought for the day on the former and avoiding Shaun Keavney and Jarvis Cocker on the latter who really wind me up. The announcer bloke with the really deep voice on Radio 4 is a bit weird/scary. Apart from that I do really like both of them. Listening to Marc Riley now, plays some great stuff.

Thanks for the advice all, it helps Santa find something. Option to print only in black would be handy – our HP at home won’t, but setting it on fast draft helps save ink and quality is still okay. Cheers

Horror and sci-fi channels on Sky are always good for a bad film you end up being drawn into when you have better things to do e.g Quater Mass and the Pit got me last week

Between Xmas and New Year a lot of people are bored with time on their hands so browse more so than usual – I have always found this a great time to list and flog stuff (inc. unwanted presents) and have the time to do it before going back to work in the New Year.

ditto, sound good for that price (as if they really were £800..) but can’t find any reviews. A few places selling last model Ultegras for similar which might be a safer bet, or some nice handbuilt Harry Rowland wheels. Would like to know more though on these as well

I have done a few myself over the years into existing chimneys with a home made register plate and not worried too much but as I got older/wiser/paranoid/nagged etc getting a HETAS installer is important to sign all off for safety. Depending on fire/room size and air flow / drafts you made need air brick for a good draw. Add a CO detector somewhere near too.

you’ll never stop them getting in, particularly at this time of years when dark, wet cold outside and agree with above – little nipper wooden traps, only ones that are reliable and get’em, peanut butter or bits of choc chip biscuits as bait. Check morning and evening, you’ll soon know it if you forget, the stink of a rotting mouse is horrendous.
If you want to know about dealing with squirrel, rat, hornet, wasp, moth etc invasions, just ask…..

Depends what budget is I guess. I bought one of these last year as a kit and did the base, built and insulated it with a mate in 3 days: http://www.fencingcentre.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=282_277&product_id=6459

been great and would recommend, have a heater on a timer for winter. Price was a grand cheaper last year though, not sure why it’s gone up. Use it as an office, overspill for friends/family staying etc. I think they are from an Estonian supplier, several companies over here seem to sell them. Cheers
