I got a small solar panel from Maplins which trickle charges a 12v leisure battery, which powers bright 12v lighting for one of our sheds some way from house, it works fine, haven’t had to do anything to it (like extra charging) for over a year now. cheers

Apart from Ned Flanders example above, do contact the voluntary youth service in your area (or council one if it exists, most pretty cut back now), ask if they can help, might be able to offer an appealing alternative to hanging around the streets.

Loads of keys not working, just looked at replacement keyboards, seem to be about £40. Then looked at fitting guides on YouTube, looks pretty fiddly and timeconsuming, don’t mind paying a bit more for someone to do it as I don’t want to cock it up.

Got a Canon MG5550 following the above a few weeks ago, bit of a faff to set up but now done it’s great – reliable so far and good quality, much better than the old HP one we had. Thanks for pointers.

I fell a over t on wet decking a month ago and knackered my left ankle, thought a few beers might help and see how it was in the morning, even more painful and swollen, trip to A & E, x-ray, no breaks but diagnosed detached ligaments on both sides. Bloody painful, a week with a weird boot thing, crutches and painkillers. Can hobble about now and drive but still ankle swells up if up too long. I thought A & E were pretty good, told me it’ll take at least 6 weeks, so not long now I hope. Get well soon

I nominate the A338 between Ringwood and Salisbury, trundling Honda Jazz pensioners, single carriageway*, lots of side roads, people desperate to get past, and only *200m of dual lane just south of Salisbury. Huge amount of crashes and deaths on it. Closely followed by the nearby A31 across the New Forest.

not writing to a Dear Deidre problem page honest, more (formal) written letters than emails for this bit of the job so ‘Hi’… just doesn’t seem right. Ms is usually a compromise I’d use but never really knew what you are supposed to use (Debretts says ok, ta for link), plenty of other possible examples now above to try thanks……

I always change oil/filter on a bike a minimum of once a year even if less miles than manufacturer says, more often if higher mileage etc.
+ again for C90. We have a 25 year old step through Yamaha Townmate in the shed which doesn’t seem to want to die, still alwys starts first kick and runs like a sewing machine in all conditions.

I bought an ex taxi, Mercedes 250D out of our local paper for £300, had 450K miles, added another 20K before the exhaust fell off and made it uneconomical to repair, it ran lovely though before that, sold on ebay to some guy taking cars to Latvia for £500. I’d get another like that if the opportunity arose.

We do have a condensing boiler, from about 2008 I think, flue gas does seem pretty hot to me still. Not interested in spending that kind of money on a device for heating water up as pretty pointless but I thought there must be a (simpler/cheaper) way of capturing the wasted heat for getting warm air back in the house in winter.

Sweeping generalistation time – 3 types of people – good blokes (ones you like and hang about with), tw*ts (ones you have nothing to do with) and in-betweeners (those who are generally boring/characterless or might probably fall into 2nd catergory but for a peaceful life you just maintain a civil/neutral attitude towards because you have to work with them, they’re related/family or people you meet in situations like yours). They’re probably jealous of your situation.

+1 for Panasonic via John Lewis, plus SCE-HTE80 soundbar thing it sits on to compensate for the tinny sound from most flat tv’s. The soundbar is bluetooth too, great for music off your phone/ipad etc.

They have some ‘interesting’ business practices I’m told by people in the industry (I have had built about 25 garden cabins and big lodges from a few different suppliers over recent years). One you might like (bought one myself a while ago) is http://fencingcentre.co.uk/penthouse-log-cabin-55m-x-40m.asp
For me this was the one for size/quality and price having done loads before and research. It’s gone up a bit since I did mine, plus me and a mate did the base, insulation, built it, electrics etc. Fab cabins and good size within planning regs. I think they come from Estonia originally, this place just imports them, other suppliers out there in the UK I think. Do smaller versions too if this one is too big. Cheers

Classic limited mileage insurance policy might help – ran an old Saab 900 turbo on this, pretty cheap premium and great to drive apart from the disconcerting turbo lag. Big hatchback too for bikes or kipping in when young.
Drove an old Fiesta 1.25 for a while, I’m sure they lie about their power output, seemed very quick at the time for a tiddly engine
