Good open letter here about the meeting by the nice chap who organises the Gridiron in the NF:

Suspect it will just get ignored though

When our kids were littler a few years back we had a Honda CRF80 (4 stroke) for learning and mucking about on, ideal size for little and big kids (like me) alike. 3 or 4 speed semi-auto I think, took a lot of abuse and always started every time. Great fun, they are all still into (bigger) bikes now

Update: the VW seller decided not to sell and keep it, BMW seller wouldn’t accept a (much) lower offer so in need of some wheels quickly I spotted below for sale just down the road for me, a 52 reg Honda CRV 2.0 Sport for £1200 with 110k miles, history, long MOT and when I drove off it had a full tank of petrol. I don’t think it’s going to be very economical though, a big lump with a petrol engine. All the gadgets work, drives lovely and already had bikes in the back no problem. Stop gap sorted until new van comes

From the latest NFNPA press release quoting the chair Oliver Crossthwaite Eyre:
‘ The important thing is that these measures should enable all road users to go about their business as usual even when an event is taking place.’ underlining the point about discrimination given that other non-cycling events have an effect on ‘business as usual’

As for discrimination what other large scale event might be planned for the roads there ?

As thomthumb says plus looks like the NF marathon is happening again this year, with that pesky feeding station up our lane, lots of plastic cups chucked in our garden etc. I live on a popular route for sportives, never bothered me at all apart from how loud some participants are when talking (shouting) to each other. Maybe NFNPA could add compulsory wearing of gags to the charter

beargrease, I like Hondas but OH and offspring say they are old people’s cars and wouldn’t be seen in one, I don’t care though, could you drop it off on Sat morning, only about 500 miles from where you are….

apparently the beemer is the 163bhp (not 174) version the bloke told me, and of course said it was much more reliable than the later ones or 530d engine as he would

^ agree with the money making side, that’s what the big events are about, never quite understood why someone would want to line an organiser’s pockets to ride on public roads when you can do it for free, whenever you want. The big UKCE/Wiggle rides have caused this rise in feelings for some influential locals, it was alright a few years back

Just been approved 17 for 3 members against.

I live and work here, just to re-iterate we’re not all rich and/or anti-cycling (a vocal minority are) and many of us within have been opposing this charter as it is. The question to be asked is why the inequality/discrimination i.e. only cyclists and not include all things that cause (minor) inconvenience to residents like running events, the round ups, Boxing Day point to point, New Forest Show, events at Beaulieu, grockles, retired people in Honda Jazz or Hyundai automatics etc etc

Big Bike Bash happens all on a private site causes inconvenience to no-one, but the reputation NFNPA are getting will have an impact on local economy, our business relies on visitors and we’ll suffer

I switched to BP Ultimate or Shell V power diesel in my 10 year old van about 18 months ago, really noticed the difference, seem to come alive again, runs smoother and better mpg. Worth the difference per litre to me.

Domain now gone after looking last week, I’m sure they know you’ve been looking and if you don’t buy it straightaway some sneaky company gets it or puts price up.
JulianA – thanks, will drop you an email soon. No ecommerce needed initially but maybe later down the line.

We have one for electric line poles on our land that supply our neighbours properties, I think that’s what it is, might be a way leave. The electric company had a pretty standard agreement already for it which includes access for maintenance and repairs. We got offered an annual payment or one off bigger amount that basically covers forever (can’t remember the exact terms without digging it out) but took the former, it’s not a huge amount, I think something like £25 a pole per year. They’ve been on our land a few times over the years for inspections and changing poles. It’s fine no issues. Actually we also have an agreement in place with water company as neighbours supply comes off ours and crosses land, we get paid a bit for that too. Plenty of sample agreements by googling I would imagine.

agree, just buy something near new for the same money, if you have to borrow it Sainsburys Bank are doing 3.8% loans up to £15k, pay back say over 3 years and at least it’ll be yours to do whatever with and still be worth something at the end of loan repayment

It’s definitely in the air with mates when we talk, must be my age, winter blues after Xmas break, just getting over man flu, thinking not another year of the same etc. One thing I would say that working for a charity (I do) isn’t always an answer, yes you do get job satisfaction seeing the benefits your work directly brings to others but it’s still a place of work like any other with the pressure to make money to stay afloat and sometimes internal politics / **** you have to work with etc like any other business. When you get to an age and see friends/family members dying, that cliche about life being too short, seize the day etc rings true. Good luck OP in your quest, hope something works out for you and don’t leave it too late.

I got a Canon MG5500 about 3 months ago from Currys in their (semi-permanent) sale after reading reviews and asking on here after going through similar experience with the HP one we had that I detested, the canon was good at first but has recently started to not feed paper unless you take out and re-load the tray virtually every time. Good quality print but I’m worried I’ll grow to hate it as much as the HP one if this carries on.

Even if it turns out to be a sensor, change the fuel filter and run it on BP Ultimate or Shell V Power diesel, you’ll notice the difference after a tankful and it’s worth the extra few pence a litre for the cleaner running, power and economy. I changed 18 months ago, big difference.

Knackered left ankle last summer, gear changing in present van, particularly stop start in traffic, is making it much worse hence looking for auto option. Thought about a Vito but they seem to have poor reviews and worse re-sale values if I don’t get on with it etc.

Years ago I had a 450SLC (great but thirsty), C250D (my favourite, got to 450K miles no problem) a 98 E300 TD estate which was fine apart from bad tinworm, more recently I had a 2004 E270 TD estate, total crap, cost me a fortune keeping it on the road. Lost my confidence in them after that, although Honest John seems to say they got better again in recent years. Stick to Jap stuff now.

First polish with autosol, going to put the original bits on once cleaned, except Judy forks are well knackered so had these True Temper Lite steel rigid ones off an old Diamondback I had for now. Frames got a couple of nicks in it but has come up better than I thought so far, still some tarnishing though

If you are on a limited budget, have a look at a Toyota Hiace with the D4D engine, won’t let you down and a bit more space than these, cheers
